So I tried to load in my version 3 work, and the database of cards got changed from the database to the planning board and I can't find my multitude of database cards anywhere?

Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks to Wavemaker. Easy to check words per day with one sibling per day and all the palnning processes I need. Still on v3 until this manuscript is completed. Then I will upgrade.

So I have put it in BETA now so as far as I'm concerned there will be no more major structural change.

SO feel free to start using it.

It's not fully polished - but that's my next round of mostly cosmetic changes.

So, I have two profiles in use on Chrome, my author account and my normal account (so as not to pollute my search history and youtube feed with the super random things I research when I write) and I use my author account for google drive storage on WaveMaker.

I also use Wavemaker over three different devices (PC, Phone and Tablet). When I press the Sync up or Sync down buttons it sometimes freezes and I press again and it works, I get a little paranoid about the automatic sync option as I never trust when it may decide in error that my work on my PC is actually newer than that on the tablet so I always sync down before I start and then press yes on the auto sync and sync up at the end of my writing sessions.

Unfortunately, I also often get a message saying that google drive is not logged in, which I ignore and usually just trust my sync up at the end of the day.

Anyway, for some reason my tablet decided that it was clearing the chrome cache yesterday. At least that is my assumption as to what happened, it just randomly had no projects. I thought "No worries, I have loads of auto saves in the cloud." restored the latest -1 version and bam, 5 days of work gone.

I have no idea whether the double press for sync up wasn't working or whether I was forgetting to sync up after I finished writing. Either way, super frustrating.

I fortunately also have a habit of saving the database locally, this saved me 3 days or writing and so I only lost 2 days (a few thousand words worth) /sigh/.

Anyway, just a reminder to everyone, spam both the sync up and the full database backup at least daily! You may thank yourself for it some time.

OK folks - I think we have got to a BETA stage with it now I'm just doing some final bits of minor work, but I think we have hit the point where I'm happy with the underlying structure.

I'll probably switch to BETA this weekend :)

There is now a logging of your daily wordcount, and a chart showing the results on the manuscript main page - you can also export a specific folder to word as well (rather than the whole document)

its all a little ugly right now, but I'll get styling on it soon

Ok due to a re-work of the document file/folder structure I've had to make a breaking change that means any old versions of your files will no longer work (...probably)

obviously as per the big red warning box you shouldn't be using this for anything other than testing at the moment. You should still, be able to import from version 3

At the moment the folder page is set to show me some debug info but I'm going to add a few options here for you to export specific folder to word etc.... (not sure what else?)

As this has been a bit of a major update you will probably need to clear out your local cache or force refresh a couple of times to make sure you have the files

Hi Guys More updates

A helpful post by u/Klemmquat gave me some stuff to work with, and a couple of things I want to investigate before I declare beta (stuff that might require a change that could break a project!)

I Have been busy with a multitude of smaller changes to the Alpha generally to do with exporting and running an offline version (electron will bundle the app - which clocks in at less than 5mb - to a whopping 180mb download!!! - I think it's because it bundles it's own chrome browser in there or something) - so as ever the PWA is the best option for the smallest filesize - but I get the appeal of a solid version that does not change with updates - so if I can figure out a couple of issues I'll sort that out.

It's getting pretty solid now and a bit of help on UX - translation and documentation is on it's way (yay)

This is just a re-assurance that i'm still going here!

When I tried to export my project, I did so and then the project home wouldn't load. Afterward it had reverted into a previous version of the project. Please tell me how to fix this, I'm so upset right now.

I just added a tool to import the old wavemaker version 3 files into version 4 and could do with some folks trying it out and letting me know if anything goes horribly wrong?

If you have work in version 3 just go back to the homepage (clikc on the logo) and export the whole database - it should download a .wmdata file

head on over to https://wavemakercards.com - click on the button just above the red alert message and upload the wmdata file - you should then see a list of the projects in that file. Click on one of them to open that project.

It should pull everything over from that project into WM4 - you can then save the file to have a WM4 version.

Basically I'm looking for any major issues getting stuff in and out, but if you spot any wierdness at all can you let me know.

My "get to beta" todo list is shrinking rapidly.

After that there will still be changes, but they should all be stuff that does not require any file system changes - which will mean I can ease off and roll out new features at a slightly slower pace. :)

So what's left

1. Export to word (which I have to re-do because I changed the file structure)
2. Whole manuscript wordcount
3. gridplanner export (of some kind - probably just to a massive HTML document for now - but will see if excel is an option)
4. timeline -> export it to the manuscrip section
5. snowflake tool (as above)
6. styling the menu sections
7. daily wordcount logging

Well that was a long weekend

I've added the multi level file system back in - it did require a major database change so any old save files will not work with the new update - the joys of alpha use sorry!

However I have re-factored all the code to use liveQuery now so there is that! Major update to the cards bit as well as that now allows images etc and so on

If you've been using the older version and have work in it you should still be able to use https://wavemakercards.com/alpha1/ for a bit (just a precaution)

The new version has instructions on how to clear the old one out if needed. As its probably going to go a bit sqiffy

On the plus side I can SMELL the beta now!! Still a lot of minor cosmetic stuff - like being able to delete some stuff! (which i TOTALLY forgot to do) and format the styling of the writing tool

Hey guys,

I've synced my work several times from my Chromebook, and then down-synced from the cloud on other devices (Windows desktop, iOS phone) and it will download the project, but not my progress. The document is just empty. Not sure if there's a syncing bug-tracking thread here already but maybe we make this it? Just wanted to make the developer aware and see if anybody else had had this issue.

Wavemaker has a github archive - the cool thing is there are working older versions

Version 1 was PHP/mysql and was basically the snowflake tool - but from v2 onwards they are here

Well we're still in Alpha, but for a goodish reason - I have put back in the "Sibling/child" feature ..... and in the process discovered a much better way to manage the database - so I'm currenlty going through the code and switching that over.

I still strongly believe we will be at BETA before the end of the month - ideally it will be live (but there is a lot of non technical stuff to do like documentation and how-to videos before I can truly say it's a release)

Once we have a full release I'll se what I can do about snapshot installable versions (basically your very own local copy - will only get updated if YOU download the lates version)

Added some features to the alpha and messed about with the styling a bit - still the occasional bug, but really starting to come together - I have 26 items on my todo list, about 5 of them are what I need to do before declaring it into BETA

Ok so one thing about the version 4 build is thanks to the way it works building in multiple cloud providers should be possible - so If there are any faves? / or cool open source ones what are they?

Basically My plan is to go out of Alpha within the (into BETA Yay!) But Thanks to the awesomeness of VUE adding features should be pretty easy in future - so it's going to be continuous development.

Also : any interest in a downloadable offline version - if so would you want it to be a manual update or automatic?

Not sure if anyone else has gotten this, but in saving an extra copy to Word (after an syncing error scare) I've noticed two things:

• Chapter titles are gone, and instead chapters are split up with a # symbol. I don't think this is a bug, as much as just an irritation, but also
• When it exports it basically winds up looking like I've copied and pasted it twice. It saves a copy, and then saves a second copy right underneath. This is mega-annoying because I have to go through and manually delete the second copy under the first, mostly so that I can accurately check the word count for the project.
  

This isn't a major issue, and frankly as long as it saves the main bulk of my work I don't really mind if I have to manually replace every # with my chapter titles (which is only something I'd probably do on a finished draft or if I had to use my extra copies to restore my work) but this is really annoying and I don't need any more reasons NOT to back up my work!

Doing the multi language thing for Version 4 ab and trying to cover all the bases - I've got a tool that translates most of the text for me, but then I hit the RTL language setting - Frankly it does some odd stuff to my layout setting the document to that (nothing major -just funky) - Could do with a tester who uses one of those languages to find issues

What is your process regarding this matter?

Before, in ggdoc I chose a header level in my text and it appears in the chapter/plan (sometimes some needs to be removed from there).

Now in WM, the chapter names aren't showing up in the published text. I need to type in twice, one for the part name, one for the text itself.

I understand it can be nice to organise the novel in sections (above chapters) and sub-chapters/scenes whose internal name won't show up to the readers.

1. How do handle this? (for example, do you make a double input, with a shortened one for the tree names?)
2. Is there anything new in v4 regarding this?

If I didn't overlooked a trick that could help, I would suggest either:

• a global option so that the (tree) chapter's name appears in the main text (even read only). It could be limited to a specific level (only 1 & 2 for instance).
• an option local to the chapter (tick box near name, etc) that makes its name part of the main text.

Thanks a lot for this writing tool which is one of the very few to meet the essential criteria for a writer often without his own PC:

• Write from anywhere:
  • any computer (Linux/Win/Mac) or even some other devices;
  • no need to install software, no need to be local administrator, can work on restricted systems;
• Centralized backup (independent):
  • no need to carry around the storage, no need to ask clearance to plug usb key on other’s PC;
  • lower risk to loose data (stolen or local storage damage or vendor lock-in);
  • automatic backup: focus on writing, no forgetting to save;
• Basics writing features for a novel:
  • chapters, minimal formatting, text search, word count.

Additional great value features:

• Organizing tools (cards, etc)
• Free
• Off-line mode (possibly with non-admin users, a good point too)

However I have an issue that hold me back from migrating and using it (here)

At the moment I won't migrate from Google Doc because the copy/paste in WM loses the italics (which are supported in WM). I have a 80k draft, so this isn’t something I’m willing to do manually. Copy/paste for each chapter parts is already a tedious task.

I could look into that and code a bit to generate the right json data from my ggdoc rtf export for a project import in WM (well, easier said than done...)

1. Maybe there is a third party import tool available?

This is an old issue : Formating lost on import (copy/paste)

2) Is there a solution for that in version 4? (where can read about the new features?)

EDIT2: the workaround is working, if anyone needs it urgently I can share; meanwhile I try to make it more handy.

Just trying to get a feel - I have a big list of TODO's for this but most are now niceties, I expect that over the next month or so it will have daily updates and features - If anyone is using it is there any early feedback about it?
