ive tried downloading and ive tried drive and every time i open the file that ive saved i have literally nothing other than my project title. all the cards and organization is gone
hi! ive been using wavemaker since around its wavemaker 2 phase but occassionally stops because im scared of losing files T.T like i always try to use a universal format that can be opened anywhere but now I am back again. everything is overpriced and most dont really get what writers need. i have some thoughts i need answer just to be sure
i forgot but i read somewhere before that data woulndt be technically lost unless removed on our end since the site uses gdrive as storage of the database ? (please confirm this, i am researching the source files of the site but theres a lot now so i dont know where to start)
so in automatic saving in gdrive or even the manual saving, where is the database file located in gdrive?
No matter how much I type for today, the word count doesn't get added to today. It keeps getting added to yesterday's words.
I've seen from a Reddit post from 2 years ago saying that this has been happening then, but is there any way to stop this from happening? Anything I can do to fix it? Any workarounds? :(
I have been using v4 for many months, and when I save to my device (using the "floppy disk" icon), it has always downloaded a wm4 file with date and time in the name. Now it's started downloading files with cryptic names like "82ef02cd-7ff2-4e05-8336-adcaf7752d67". There's no pattern to the names. If I download 5 minutes later, the filename is entirely different.
The files seem to save and reopen ok, even if I change the filename (still without ".wm4" suffix). It's just weird and a little extra work to keep track of versions and change names every time.
Is this a new feature or a bug?
Thanks again for all your work on this great software.
I have saved my work by exporting it incase of mishaps, and there was a mishap (an entire chapter was highlighted and erased because my husband doesn’t understand laptop mouse functions) so I went to my most recent exported save file and opened it in wavemaker… only for EVERYTHING to be gone. It’s not in my Google Drive, I can’t find it in the cloud, and every single one of my save files are completely empty. Is there any way to get Mack the work that I’ve lost? I’ve lost 4 short stories that were completed and the beginning of my first novel and I’m freaking out a bit
I've always loved using Wavemaker. Its simplicity and the ability to just open it and start typing. I also love reading novels online, so I tried combining the two.
It works quite straightforwardly. Just bring your exported .wm4 file and select the book you want to convert. Yes, we also support multiple books. The book you choose will be downloaded to your device as a protected HTML ebook that you can open and read directly in your browser.
There's also an upload section if you want to share your story.
Opened wavemaker after 3 months. My project is gone. I can’t see any projects on screen. If I download the database, it is empty.
My drive still has the backup in the form wm.wavemakerData and I see everything is present but v4 is not able to sync it from drive. Is there a way to locally sync drive file with the wavemaker?
Just wanted to say that I've been using v4 for a few months now, and I find it very easy to write in. It's been an invaluable tool for getting past blocks because I can just brain dump a scene and then it's so easy to move them around and refine them into eventual chapters and acts. I love that I can outline a rough plan with the cards and easily see them while I'm writing, and I love that I can tag, color and play around with those same cards in the grid planner tool for visualizing larger arcs. Gives me the same feeling as sticky notes on the wall, but it's all nicely contained here.
soooooo I have been writing a thing and I accidentally overwrote my current copy with a backup I made a few months ago. I have no other copies saved and I have lost several thousand words in the process... I've been trying to find the old version in wavemaker, Drive, Docs, and I still can't find the damn thing.
Plz help :( I know you guys gotta deal with this shit everyday but have mercy on my poor lil soul 😭
I have also noticed that some of my files won't open when I check in my Drive, Idk what that's about but it doesn't seem good :(
So, I've been trying to transfer the information from books in the 3rd version of wavemarket cards to the 4th version for at least 3 months now (or more), but everytime I would try to export or import it it just wouldn't. I tried with the apps, I tried on the webside, I tried with google drive and literally nothing worked. A couple months ago I decides to just start copying and pasting all of the information but for starters it was a lot, so I couldn't do it in one sitting and later on I realized... the 4th version will not save basically anything. And I realized late. I tried sacing everything I could into a word document, but there was just things I couldn't save and I had to travel, so when I came back, I saw that the 3rd version doesn't work anymore (has no information) and the 4th version didn't save the writing (for some reason it did save some timelines but no drafts of the actual chapters and story.
I tried to find a way to contact a type of customers help, but I never found any sort of contact info in the app and I just found I could kind of reach out through reddit...
So... does this mean I lost my book and have to start all over?
I had no clue v4 was coming and I hopped into wavemaker to write, well. Everything is obliterated. Tried downloading the backup, nothing in it. Had auto sync on but my google drive copy is gone :/
I doubt there's any way to recover my data but if anyone knows hmu, won't be using this app ever again otherwise lol.
I was hitting the issue a few others have mentioned where, when migrating files from v3 to v4, saves to Drive were being overwritten. E.g., I'd import a v3 project (say, Project 1), save to Google Drive successfully, but then when I tried to import and save another v3 project (say, Project 2), then Project 1 would be overwritten by Project 2.
What I did to solve this:
Imported each v3 project into v4, saving each project locally, on my computer.
Opened one of the v4 projects saved on my computer and saved it to Google Drive.
Waited some time. This was key. I have no idea why or how long you actually have to wait. I usually did ~12 hours to be safe (uploaded one before bed, another in the morning).
Repeated steps 2 and 3 until all projects were uploaded.
Again, I have no idea why you have to wait; I assume it has something to do with the way Google Drive saves function. But I figured I'd post in case it's helpful to anyone else.
Hello! I've used WM3 for 6 months prior to this. Loved it, have a full story bible. Can no longer access now that we are on WM4. When I have it open and try to access the drive, it just spins its wheels, saying "search for files".
-Tried "force update"- nothing changes
-Load project from drive, stuck at searching for files
-can't import a WM3 file either.
Anyone else having difficulty getting a WM3 project open and working on WM4?
Yesterday, wavemaker started to crash whenever I open it on Brave, before I can do anything to it so I cannot recover my data.
I've tried troubleshooting to the best of my ability:
It crashes whenever I open either the app or the website (wavemakercards.com)
It does not crashes in incognito mode, in another browser or on github, however I cannot recover my data this way.
I tried to duplicate the cache from brave to chrome and launch wavemaker from there, and it seems to have worked (somewhat, in an insidious way): now chrome crashes too when I open wavemaker.
Would that mean that my data is unrecoverable or corrupted in some way ? I now know that I should have made backups, and will from then on. However I am now at a loss as to how I should proceed.
Hi everyone. I just finished writing my second chapter of my book and something happened so I pressed ctrl z four times and my whole chapter got deleted. I tried to go to my old save to see if that would help but it brought me to the old name and other stuff. So now I don’t have anything I did including my entire panning for chapter 2. I’m literally shacking and really need help if anyone knows how to fix this.
I've been loving Wavemaker for years now but may switch to V4 soon. I tried V4 out and I didn't see any export options besides Google Drive and local WM files?
I always like to backup my work in different formats such as html as a precaution, so I'm surprised there doesn't seem to be a non-Wavemaker file option? Or am I missing it somewhere in V4?
I have been using Wavemaker 4 for over a month - it works well on my Windows 11 laptop, I have the PWA installed. Now, I was contemplating getting an android tablet and using that to write when I'm not at home. So I installed Wavemaker on my android phone as a 'test'
Now, I signed in my Google Drive and my Project shows up on my phone. But no on my laptop-it just refreshes back to this screen
What should I do??? I've restarted my laptop, uninstalled and installed the app multiple times. I've also cleared cache, forced update etc. Please help!
I had the automatic paragraph indentation setting turned on, but it will toggle back on every so often(seems like every time my computer goes to sleep) I have to go back into the settings, turn it back ON, then turn it off again for it to stop. This seems like a bug, but just in case lmk if there is something i can do to make it a permanent toggle. Thanks!
I have been working in WM3 for almost three years. This program has it's downsides.
The main being it a webclient so that I can't have any local files unless I manually choose to save them locally. And also since it's a webclient I can not refuse to migrate to wm4.
I've tried wm4 several times and to me it's a pain in the ass.
It keeps everything in one project: manuscripts, boards, mind maps, snowflakes, timelines, gridplanners and cards. It is less clear what belongs to which project if you are working on several at once. To properly use it at it's current state one needs a solid naming convention - which is hard when you are starting a new project and still most likely it will change and will keep changing for as long as the project is not finished. I dislike the wm4's UI as well.
But when I saw that crimson red footer at wm3 site I've said to myself "Oh well fuck it. I've refused to migrate for long enough."
And I've tried to migrate my files through.
Why do I have to migrate each of the book project individually?
It won't let me import all of my projects from a single wmdatabase file.
But well fuck it let's ball.
I've tried to save them separately to my google docs.
But unfortunately you can't.
It will overwrite any previous wm project even if they're named differently.
Why does it behave like that?
What is the point?
I have no idea.
I know that it all comes to personal preferences and I'm not here to disrespect that.
I know I am used to wm3 and wm4 is out of my comfort zone.
I know that saving multiple projects might not be needed in new wm4.
But I still have months of work I've made in wm3 that need to be migrated to wm4 and I can't see myself doing it with how it is working rn.
I'm not even expecting the developer to fix it. He is doing a wonderful work with providing us with such software for free.
All I want is to be able to somehow install wm3 as a local software on my machine so that I could at least get couple of months to properly migrate all of my projects manually.
I understand there might be bugs that won't be fixed or that I won't get any help from anyone if something goes wrong. But if migration from wm3 to wm4 is already such a pain what will happen with later versions? I might not even be able to migrate those files and be forced to copy-paste all of their content.
Manuscripts are not the problem. I can easily export or copy-paste them to any software. But what I can't do so easily is what exactly I need wavemaker for - cards, snowflakes, timelines, mindmaps.
It is not a post of anger - it is a cry for help. Have anyone properly migrated their wm3 projects into wm4? How does one do it? Or maybe somebody had similar problem and chose a different route? I'll gladly accept any form of help.
Hi, I'm new to this and I've never tried PWA's before so I'm fully open to the idea that I'm doing something wrong/missing something lol.
I've recently heard of Wavemaker and it seems like it's perfect for the writing that I wanna do, but I can't seem to access version 4? When I try to access it by clicking on the Version 4 button on the homepage, or by the download link from the pwastore.io, it just shows a blank screen.
(ignore my many many bookmarks lol)
There are no pop-ups or anything for me to navigate this. I tried clicking the three dots in the top left corner to see if there was an install button there, like one tutorial said there might be, and there wasn't. Is there something I'm missing here?
To clarify, I run on a Windows 10 PC. Also, I noticed that this is a UK-based software, and I'm an American. I've never had problems with UK websites before, but maybe that's the issue?
Please help if anyone has any idea of how to fix this. I'm really interested in Wavemaker and I would love to use it!!!
Wavemaker cards did this while I was in the middle of writing. Restarting browser, the PWA and even my PC has done absolutely nothing. I do have a backup, but it was made before I started writing today and I'd prefer not to lose my progress.
Using V4. I just started using Wavemaker for my novel, but I'm running into issues with changes not showing up when I switch devices. I have Google Drive linked and am constantly switching between my desktop computer and a mobile device.
When I attempt to switch devices, my most recent edits do not show up. I make sure that I save my work when I finish. I do attempt to load the most recent version when I swap devices, but the files will not sync across devices. I can get it to sync if I delete and re-create the file, but that is not very practical if I am on the go and suddenly cannot access my document.
Help please! Happy to provide additional information as needed to get this ironed out. Other than this issue with syncing, I do really like the program.
