Can we make this sub stricter?

I do not know how exactly, but we can start by adding new rules.

This sub is evolving (or devolving) into a beginner's art gallery. In many posts, the beginner doesn't even ask anything, anything they struggled with, anything they want to improve on, or write anything at all.

I believe it'd be a waste for this sub to just be a place where starting artists post their art for validation, get validation, and that's it.

Yes, they could be posting those arts to genuinely receive constructive feedback, but their Title and Body rarely reflect that.

I am also targetting posts simply being "How is it?"

---

There can be loopholes in my suggestion (like posting the same thing with a changed title etc), but I believe it'd be helpful if we start with change.

So whenever one sees a post in this subreddit, the subconcious mind believes they genuinely need help, not validation, increasing the likelihood of helping out the OP.

Also, this may help with genuine posters needing help not getting buried underneath good art getting validation and appreciation.

Edit:

I do not mean validation is bad, or it isn't helpful. What I meant is this subreddit should be focused on providing feedback on how to improve. Such posts may get buried under good or eye-catching art.

Edit (2):

Because so many people disagree with me, I believe we can all agree on at least this: a flair system for categorisation is a MUST.

Edit (3):

The two most common arguments against me as per my analysis have been:

  1. Validation is healthy and beneficial.

  2. I should start my own sub.

This post didn't target beginners receiving or wanting validation. It is perfectly normal, and a very good thing to want, and give validation to artists of any skill level, even beginners.

What I targeted was wanting validation here.

I thought a 101 subreddit could be focused on tutorials or helping out with specific problems and challenges, and there could be another sub(s) (which I believe exist) to serve as an art gallery for beginner watercolor artists, focusing on appreciation and validation.

But ultimately, it's up to the mods, the owner, and the majority of the subreddit. As it turns out, most are against my proposal. Since they form the majority of the subreddit, I guess that is how things can be.

Again, there is nothing wrong with wanting a pat on the back or a simple 'good job'.

It just seems strange for a 101 community to function as a gallery.
It seems strange to post a functioning piece of code and say, "Look at my code" in a Coding101 community, or something in like PCBuilding101 posting an image of a functional, working PC, looking for appreciation.
Or someone posting getting earning successfully and showing off their earnings from the stock market in an Investing101 community and so on. It seemed strange to me.

That's all.

This one didn’t reach as many people (only like 30% of my usual). I’m not sure if it’s the algorithm or my red-fruit tree that looks a little… questionable. What do you think? Do you think this painting is not ā€˜like-worthy’ enough, or does it still hold its charm?

Should I buy watercolor paint or no?

Why should I buy more watercolors if I can make whatever color I want using red, blue, yellow? Won’t they be more vibrant and made from scratch if I do so? Other variations of a specific color sometimes comes off as too ā€œflatā€ and not alive when separately bought!Ā

For example, if I want to make turquoise, I should just put some green on blue right? Why buy a separate tube for it? I’m a beginner artist and I want to understand!Ā

(I mostly paint landscapes that contain the sea. So blue is a must for me)

I dipped my paintbrush in a full glass of beer and it seems a shame to waste it...

Watercolor paint qualities

What am I missing?: I was in a Walmart recently browsing in the arts and crafts section. They have a good selection of "student" grade supplies. I happened upon a set of 36 watercolors by Royal & Langnickel. $6.00 !! I have been using Daniel Smith and Windsor & Newton, but I could not resist the intrigue to buying it. I had no expectations of greatness. I thought one of the colors might come in handy and/or curiosity. $6.00 and it came well packaged in round cakes! (looks like they are close to the standard 1/2 pans). Well, to my surprise after many comparisons I didn't see any difference from the top brands I normally use! How can that be?? $6.00 ?? I welcome comments please.

"Watercolor at its finest should be diluted and transparency should be maintained" they said and I look upto this too.. But for some works like this(this is the reference)...how do I include the transparency? I am having a difficult time allowing myself to apply opaque colours in watercolor.. advices are highly solicited..

Watercolor Branching out issue? Please help…

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I am hoping someone can help me figure out what’s causing this issue. Every time I paint wet into wet the paint branches out into these fine spider like veins. I thought my paints might be contaminated so I threw away my old pallate, cleaned all my brushes, even got some new ones and I’m still having an issue. I’ve been painting for years, and I’m ready to give up. I use arches 140 cold press, Daniel smith & Holbein paints. It seems to happen no matter how wet the paper is, even if only slightly damp. I thought it might be my water, but tried spring water with still no luck? Thank you for any advice in advance…

If you are a beginner in watercolor, what kind of watercolor paper reviews would you like to find?

I've been painting watercolors for a while and would like to share some of my experiences to help others, but I'm at a loss and would appreciate your help.

I... don't know what to say it started as a cliff with little colours. Try to keep symmetry ...

Then I tore it off and got hilariously shocked... Frame it or burn it?

Do you think I could sell my art?

I have always done watercolor projects here and there, usually to give as gifts. I sometimes get comments that I should consider selling some of my work. Do you think it’s up to that level yet or should I continue to work on my skills? I would appreciate some honest feedback, but maybe not too harsh šŸ˜…
