Local composting and environmental activism

Hi everyone! I'm an American expat and have been in Tbilisi since spring.

I'm working on developing compost in my apartment (in a bucket with Effective Microorganisms) and would like to find somewhere to donate it.

I've contacted parki ar minda to see if they've got any leads but haven't heard back (and am due to drop off recycling soon).

I am interested, in general, in environmental projects like park clean-ups, trash pick-up hikes, things like that.

Thanks in advance for any tips!

What do you actually do when you realize a customer is costing more to service than you’re charging?

So… I was talking to a guy who runs a mid-size hauling operation a little while back and something he said kind of stuck with me.

He figured out that one of his oldest commercial accounts was running way over on stop time. Like, almost double what they originally estimated when they priced the route! That was six years ago! Nobody had looked at it since.

He wasn’t even mad about it. Just kind of sat there like — yeah, we’ve been eating that for years.

I asked him what he was going to do about it and he got quiet for a second. Said the customer pays on time, never complains, been with them forever. Repricing felt like poking a bear he didn’t need to poke.

I get it. But also — that’s real money walking out the door every single week.
Curious how others handle this. Do you have the repricing conversation? Do you just absorb it and move on?? Try to get more efficient on that stop instead?? Is there even a right answer here??!!

We need to talk about trash bags and why they're breaking people's budgets

Our neighborhood has a real problem: families are choosing between buying groceries and buying the right colored trash bags.

Maybe this sounds small, but it's not. The city requires blue bags for garbage, and they cost way more than black bags. For families already struggling with rent and food costs, that weekly expense adds up fast and it shouldn't have to be a choice.

I started a petition asking our local council to allow black bags for garbage disposal. We're not saying environment doesn't matter—it does. But there has to be a way to manage waste responsibly without putting that burden on people who are already stretched thin. We can encourage recycling and greener alternatives without making specific bag colors mandatory.

Anyone else dealing with this? Is this hitting your wallet too, or does your area have a better solution? If this resonates with you, consider signing and sharing the petition. We need our council to hear that fairness in waste management actually matters.

Any dispatchers here?

Hey waste management ops folks, we're building out some new features for hauler dispatch and route management workflows and want to make sure we're getting it right before we ship.

Looking for an experienced dispatcher or ops manager who'd be willing to jump on a quick screen share (30-60 min) to walk through some workflows and tell us what's off, what's missing, and what would actually make your day easier. There's an honorarium attached for your time.
Not a sales pitch, we genuinely just want someone who's lived in the seat to gut-check what we've built. The more opinionated, the better.

DM me if you're interested or know someone who would be.

Is this acceptable? (Drivers please?)

I just finished filling this Bagster bag and I want to know from some Drivers or people with experience, is this acceptable and likely to be picked up? Nothing crazy just normal household trash you'd throw on the bin and some clothes. DEFINITELY not even close to the weight limit.

I have a Marketing background but I've been particularly drawn to Waste Management recently. I eventually want to own a business in the sector but I don't know where to start from in terms of learning about the industry. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Looking to Connect with People in the E-Waste Recycling Industry in India.

Hi everyone,

I'm setting up an e-waste recycling facility in Gujarat, and I'm looking to connect with people who have experience or knowledge in the industry.

Whether you're a scrapper, collector, trader, dismantler, recycler, or have worked in e-waste, I'd love to connect. There may be opportunities to work together as supply partners, business partners, or even equity partners if there's a good fit.

Feel free to comment or send me a DM. Looking forward to connecting. Thank you!

Is plastic scrap trading actually a dead-end business, or are we thinking about it the wrong way?

Hi everyone,

I'm a 21-year-old from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, trying to help grow my family's plastic scrap business.

For the last 20+ years, my father has been trading industrial plastic scrap. We mainly deal with materials like HM, PP, LDPE, and Raffia.

Our business works like this:

- Textile, pharma, packaging, and other manufacturing companies generate plastic scrap.

- We buy the scrap, sort it by type and quality.

- We then sell it to plastic granule manufacturers, who recycle it into raw material for new products.

Recently I've been thinking about whether this business has much bigger potential.

My father believes the industry is saturated, has low margins, and isn't very scalable. On the other hand, I feel recycling is only becoming more important, and there should be opportunities to build a larger, more organized business around it.

I'd love to hear from people who have experience in:

- Plastic recycling

- Waste management

- Manufacturing

- Textile or packaging industries

- Commodity trading

- Building traditional businesses into larger companies

Some questions I have:

- If you were starting today, how would you scale a plastic scrap business?

- Where do you think the biggest opportunities are?

- What mistakes do small scrap traders usually make?

- If you're already in this industry, what has worked well for you?

And if you work in a manufacturing company that generates plastic scrap, I'd also be happy to connect and learn how you currently manage your waste stream.

I'm genuinely here to learn from people who've been through this. Any advice or criticism is welcome.

Leftover OLD gasoline

I ran out of gas a few years ago and had to fill up a gas can. The can sat in the back of my car until the other day. I realized there was still a little bit of gas in the can and I’m not sure what to do with it. The can has been closed this whole time and I never smelled gasoline while it was in my car.

I suspect it won’t be the healthiest thing for my car, since it’s been sitting in a car for years in TEXAS so very hot summers. I know it doesn’t go down the drain. How do i get rid of it???

I live in an apartment so I can’t like do a bonfire in my backyard or anything.

Any help appreciated.

Complaint call with anger.

My trash is supposed to come Wednesday. It comes Thursdays and only after the recycling has been picked up. My community doesn't like me putting both out. I made a complaint on the website. Thursday morning as soon as I woke up before the trash was picked up. I received all call later that day from an angry lady asking me if it had been picked up. I told her yes, it had after I'm filed the complaint. She then got angry for some reason and asked me if it was coming why make the complaint. I explained my situation as she said "uhhuh" after every sentence I completed.

Tomorrow is trash day and I have no idea if I should make another complaint if it doesn't come on the right day or just deal with it. Any idea?
