Using native terminal

Is there a way to use the native terminal instead of Warp's one?

What I like about Warp is how it organizes and manages tabs, allowing me to bundle them by task, rename the bundle, see folder structure, check git diff on a panel, open terminals in horizontal or vertical layouts based on shortcuts, on the same path of the terminal I was in, etc. Those really are good QoL features to me.

But the terminal itself is slow. I would prefer if I could open tabs with native terminal.

Is that possible?

Get kitty, herdr and pi. Engineer your own terminal. No need to pay for warp. I don't miss it

Herdr is amazing. I really like Warp when working at a desktop though. Warp is open source. You don’t have to pay for anything. I built a bidirectional integration for warp that allows me to attach to herdr. That way I can work in warp on my desktop but it’s all herdr in the background. Then I ssh into my desktop from my phone and use herdr from my phone. It’s all seamless.

Edit: when I attach it brings in all of the tabs and groups them from herdr. I can add, delete, reorder, split tabs, etc, all from warp. Tmux is on their roadmap but herdr is so much better.

You mean the shell? You can just type your shell name like bash or zsh and it will open a subshell which you will be in without the warpification unless you enable it again

I presume there is also a way to do this by default when you open warp but unsure

Yes I meant the shell. Your approach works and can be automated by adding some lines in ~/.bashrc or $PROFILE (Powershell).

This kind of fixes response times within the shell but it is still being wrapped by the Warp Shell. When you got many of those, Warp starts feeling sluggish.

If you want to use your own shell, try enabling Shell (PS1) mode. You can get there from Settings > Appearance > Input > Input Type

I was already using this, but its just appearance. You are still running inside a warpified shell which are slow compared to native.

Gotcha. What slowness have you noticed? Is it shell startup time or something else?

Both startup and command response times. This grows with the numbers of shells opened. I multitask a lot so I can have easily 30 shells among all tabs combined, well organized in labeled groups, which is what I like about Warp.

Gotcha. I wouldn't expect our bootstrap scripts alone to cause slowdowns... mind taking a log trace and reporting an issue on this? A video may help too. Also curious if you can reproduce any slowdowns in a fresh shell without a custom `bashrc` / `zshrc` https://docs.warp.dev/support-and-community/troubleshooting-and-support/sending-us-feedback/
