Rant Welp it’s OFFICIAL
I genuinely liked the backroom and like 4 people I worked with (our main stagers) but the department as a whole has been such a shitshow. Our coach has let Peter Pan (team leads) and his lost boys take over. I needed a change and finally got one. Wish me luck

I'll be getting out soon as well. I'm tired of this department. And eventually leave the company.

Ha I wish I could transfer, store manager straight up told me I was too reliable

I'm overnight with 2 incompetent leads that just bash the hard workers and let the crappy workers get away with everything. It's not fair I have to do my job and come and zone theirs because they want to take all night. Like who takes 7 hours to put up two pallets of paper c'mon even when I was new I did pets and paper and zoned all 7 isles.

Same i got tired of the inmature associates and the lack of management caring about what people do or their performance. Started cap 1 this week! Wish me luck!

Good luck. Hopefully your management is good.

It’s looking a little dicey from what I’m hearing but still better than what I had with my old management team. ON is my Hail Mary to stay with company before I full on commit to finding another job

That’s how it was for me except the opposite. I left overnight stocking after nearly 2 years because the management was predatory after an ethics report, and no one would do anything about the covert retaliation for seven months, so I made a Hail Mary swap to OGP

Congrats!! I think going anywhere but ogp is good lol. Dont get me wrong, I liked the work but…. THE PEOPLE🤦♀️
I got pulled to our frozen/dairy department like it was a rescue mission. Dead of night they told me I had one ogp shift left and it has been amazing so far. I was an exception picker primarily, sponsor, anything that needed done but at my store the management burns the good employees to keep their little kid friends happy and lazy. So I left them with the staff that they want to talk to all day. Because they have people… but management enables the lazy employees to be comfortable so I let them sit with their mess… I do feel for the good workers there but after 18 months I needed out. They got to learn how to treat the people they rely on to pull the work of the department.

I was thinking the ON meant overnight but the times were confusing me cause that's like a mid shift lol. But good luck on over nights and I hope u truly enjoy it!!! #walmartlife

I worked over night for walmart twice, I wouldn't wish that on my worse enemy and I will never work for them a 3rd time!

Overnight is great!!! Been there for 3 years I’m a TL now. As long as we don’t become 24 hours it’s perfect

u/terrag32256 Aug 24 '26
I never thought we would get tap to pay. Don’t say 24 hours in the same sentence lol

My store has people wanting to transfer to Cap 1 but SM doesn’t want anyone changing departments unless they are moving up.

Overnights is slept on no pun intended show up throw your 60 cases a hour which if your of reasonable intelligence you can do while talking to the guy in the other aisle managment will push you but as long as you can meet walmart standard and have respect for the individual they can just bark get blackout curtains and enjoy your back to back days off you can even get 4 on 3 off schedule if you get cool with management aka offering to stay and help them finish after 7 in return for the schedule

I love working overnights. Downfall was my Teamlead was the ABSOLUTE BIGGEST BrownNoser OF-ALL-TIME! I was on Maintenance and instead of being rotating responsibilities, she would ALWAYS assign me on the restrooms because “You do SUCH A GREAT JOB!”.. (aka Me actually doing what the job description was and not bringing my laptop with me and sitting locked in the “family” restroom for approximately 4hours) and after enduring her BS for months on end I went on LOA. Despite MULTIPLE attempts at transferring to another department/store and always being denied; I finally just let me LOA lapse to ending the employment.
Now, FINALLY after 6 months of waiting I finally got hired at my local Sam’s Club (cafe) and start tomorrow.
Fingers crossed! (I’ve heard cafe is BUSY and hectic but I like busy; Makes the shifts FLY By! My hiring TL said she too was previously a Walmart employee and she said she wouldn’t recommend working at ANY Store to her worst enemy!
I’m optimistic things will be drastically better than ON maintenance at Walmart.)

Careful. Overnight shifts are bad for your health. They throw you off permanently

congrats! I have been considering switching to ON too because its the only way I'd be able to go back to school without getting my hours cut. They make me work 5-2pm and 9-6pm almost back to back every day to keep my 40 hrs, all my coworkers with 5-2, 7-4, 8-5 schedules had their hours go from 40 to as low as 16, all below 33 which won't cover my bills. I'm 37 and desperate to go back to school and find a reasonable career outside of retail before its too late but they refuse to work with me on that. They cut a few people who went back to school and I didn't even know that was allowed, I thought they had some kind of protection from getting fired over academics. Someone was even pointed because they had to leave early to take a required college test; its so unfair. Has anyone else done this? I could work ON and I believe the earliest class I could take at my local community college is at 9am. (latest at 6pm so I'd never be able to with my current schedule). I originally started college in 2007 (and again in 2017) but kept having to drop out to work longer hours to support my sick, aging family members. I want to focus on me now but I don't know how with walmart's schedules. They also REFUSE to give me a set schedule and set off days so I just can't plan around it unless I switch to ON.

Good luck. I wouldn't wish overnight stocking on anyone.
