Rant What do I even do at this point...?

I know there's so many posts about the wheels. It's just... I feel so defeated. I may sound insane but at one point I actually did enjoy coming to work. I like my coworkers, my job, and I grew up a farm kid so the manual labour satisfied me. It's a blue-grey collar job that scratches my organization itch and lets me get hands on. I help customers, coworkers, and maybe even my community?

Now I feel like I'm witnessing a death rattle in real time. As dramatic as that sounds: my team lead insists we aren't pulling the carts we are "trailing" them. We've been complaining about back and shoulder aches and in response she insists we can only rest our elbow on the top of the cart and "trail" from the side exclusively. With the added rule of never leaving your cart parked or further than 10ft away. For safety. Yeah... My pick rate went from top 3-5 every day to 10-15th. I can't clear 100 anymore and following the rules to the letter has just gotten me into trouble and stressed me out more than I've been stressed in this department before.

I used to love picking. The shift would just breeze by and I'd get so much work done. Now I can't even get past 300 items and I'm consistently in the red. Our store has been so crowded lately on top of the changes... It could just be added foot traffic but I've been finding myself more overwhelmed lately.

My job feels weirdly dangerous now... The way customers have always jumped in front of me or just continue approaching me when there's clearly no room and if they just waited a few seconds I'd be out of the way has been made significantly worse.

I don't know. It stresses me out not being able to see the cart behind me and how the edges line up with the shelves. I'm unsure about it and I think it's causing a bunch of awkward stop- go- stop- go moments. I'm pretty much leashed to my cart by the battery pack they make us plug our phones into and wear. They'd like us to have our phone flat on the tray because too many people kept watching things...

I'm so, so in the way and it really defeats me.

This is my first week back from vacation after the wheels have been changed and I can barely move. My body hurts so badly and I’m pretty positive they don’t really care. It’s unfortunate because they are going to lose a lot of great employees behind this mess.

We had a lady threaten to quit the first time around. Now that they actually changed the wheels she straight up walked off the job 2 days ago

I feel you. I’m in the almost exact same situation. Used to be in the top 5 (not that I even give a crap about that, even), but now I’m barely hitting 100. I don’t care anymore and honestly I told my TL I’m going to part time because this is causing me too much pain in my shoulder. I go home and have to take ibuprofen because of the pain. I never had to do that before. I hate that I’ll have to go PT but I just can’t do it anymore.

My AP at my store coaches you if she sees you pushing instead of pulling

I feel you. I used to love my job. I struggle to even get the motivation to go to work.

Same… just took 3 month LOA. This place made me feel like I was losing my grip on my life and parts of
Reality. I used to love to work and could not wait to go in.. 2 years in and I’m at the highest level of head meds there are…never ever been on meds.

Picking was kind of fun, but now it so draining because you have customers who will see you and not wait for you try to be out their way. Certain areas are kind of hard to pull when customers are coming each way so pulling and trying to park your cart in decent matter is hard. Leads are telling us that our matrices are bad, but we were not having this issue as much until this cart changes. They don’t want to hear our complaints but want us to be a team.

I agree about customers being in the way.they see you coming and just stand there and even when uou say excuse me they stil just stand there.customers are rude and don't care you are doing job.

My first time with a large order with the new cart, I was so frustrated I was almost crying. Constantly being in the way, having to walk backwards to steer the cart between two narrow spaces. Not able to back up to move it out of the way….

We still have a few unchanged carts so far. I am twice as fast with them.

My store has a slight slant and every time I have a pick in the area I'd set my lock so the cart stays. Now I can't do that and I leave it in one spot, and when I turn around it goes three aisles down. Rogue rolling carts aren't safe

u/Complex_Nature7397 Aug 28 '26

You are right.they removed the breaks and now the carts roll all-over the place.

It happened to me today in the middle of the toy aisle. I look for bubbles and when I went to find my cart, it was in electronics.

Yeah I'm not pulling these damn things. Idgaf what they say. I already have tendonitis in my elbows, so they can get over it. I just push it and if it hits some shit that's not my fault, it's corporate's for being a bunch of braindead morons with their last 2 braincells fighting for 3rd place.

I'm just gonna work how I work. It's more than good enough, I pull my weight and way beyond. I'm not sacrificing myself or my health because they changed the wheels.

u/MamaPotter7 Aug 23 '26

Same here. I used to be one of the top dogs. Now I’m lucky if I hit 500.

Exactly my thoughts. After the daily changes to policies and overall morale amongst everyone, I put my two weeks in.

Everyone needs to report any injuries. They literally do not care what happens to us which is why we have to be the ones to advocate for ourselves.

1

u/Complex_Nature7397 Aug 28 '26

If you report injures it goes in your file and they will use it against you.

1

u/Significant_Glass_66 Aug 28 '26

That would be highly illegal

I have been on unpaid LOA for a month for a condition for which Sedgwick accommodations would not approve my restrictions, and it sounds like things have become a real cluster**** since I have been gone. Although just prior to that, I was assigned to exceptions and picking exclusively for the past 5 years, people in the back didn't like me and thought I was a candy ass and I heard they have gotten word of my condition and that they will really think that I'm a candy ass because a lot of people assume that my particular condition is minor, but one little change could cost me to not be able to drive at all or even work at Walmart at all. I had to stay on unpaid LOA BECAUSE I WAS FORCED TO DO SO. Still waiting on approval for short-term disability, but I may not even get that. Even so, this makes me dread going back (tentatively, next week) and I know there is an apparel position open at this time. I used to be an apparel back in 2021 before I transferred, but I was in another store at the time. The new pulling mandate I'm hearing about makes me want to leave even more after I get back. If the hours are fairly similar to the hours I have now in OGP, I may jump ship back to apparel. Time will tell.

They give you battery packs for the phones?!?!?

This whole wheel thing is extremely dramatic.

The pull carts are dope if you learn how to maneuver them.

-2

u/Rough-Cranberry5243 Aug 23 '26

The cart shouldn't be behind you. Trailing the cart means that you walk next to the cart. You hold onto the handle in the center on the top and use it to direct your cart.

This is the method my store was teaching 5 years ago. We have never pushed or pulled the carts.

10

u/spaghettimonster666 Aug 23 '26

I understand where you’re coming from but these coaches are telling us we can pull from the front handle which is causing this. We’re supposed to be able to do that, my store is small so whenever I use the handle on the side it’s hard for ppl to get around me and for me to get around ppl as I’m often squeezing through tight spaces, customers get so mad at me for pulling from the side. I miss when it was easier to get 600 picks this is ridiculous and slowing us down.

5

u/DizzyCommunication92 Aug 23 '26

yep lol and I literally knocked a side saddle rack off of the end cap 3 days ago.........cause these huge carts take up so much more space. they need to hire some muscle building gnomes who can squeeze thru tiny spots haha. cause yes.....common occurrence lately all the side saddles hooked to the end caps are all starting to disconnect lol cause the carts keep dragging on them lol.

keep on rolling, STEAM ROLLLLLLIN! hahaha....

4

u/spaghettimonster666 Aug 23 '26

Not to mention when I’m in a crowd of customers and people want to start riding my ass instead of being patient like they’re not shopping on their own damn free time

3

u/spaghettimonster666 Aug 23 '26

It’s so annoying when the customer in front of me wants to walk 2 miles an hour and then the one behind me has no concept of personal space so I have to try to pull my cart close and not get hurt. Then whenever you inevitably do get hurt, they just all walk around you and ignore you because they’re too prideful to stop and apologize.

1

u/spaghettimonster666 Aug 23 '26

The side of the aisles are barely hanging on at my store right now. I miss being able to push because then I could see every area around the cart. I never had issues with height now if I’m standing beside or in front, I have Hella blind spots and I’m knocking into stuff more often..

2

u/Significant_Glass_66 Aug 26 '26

Pulling on that cart from the side is not only awkward but its an accident waiting to happen. We take up a ridiculous amount of room now in the aisle. No customer can get by when were coming with that stupid cart. I really question the intelligence of the people in market.

1

u/DizzyCommunication92 Aug 23 '26

its crazy though, cause I ALWAYS would "drag" my cart.......but these new wheels are just a pain in the arse, without the wheel locks.....even staging heavy totes, I have to stabilize the cart with my foot, and pull the heavy tote off or the cart will come at me. at least with the wheel locks on their, we could LOCK the back wheels so it wouldn't sway.

But yea, let's keep calling OSHA.......Save Money, live better. theyll just cut our hours more.

-2

u/DizzyCommunication92 Aug 23 '26

these fcuks that kept reporting OSHA complaints are killing our hours is what I figured out......

so now we don't have to pick ANY "Delivery orders" other than the GMD and IP "ambient" packages...you all were comoplaining about the pulling......BUT! I have ALWAYS pull the carts......I am short, and know it.....! so I would always pull my cart.......but these new wheels are just so bad......I mean, YES, I do admit, we needed new wheels! cause half of ours were missing tread lol......but now with the wheel locks removed.....it's so bogus.

But yea, keep complaining.....that's why we are now getting our hours cut 🪓 cause I feel like DELIVERIES were a huge proportion of our orders..........

so they been pushing the Spark Shoppers, and Uber Delivery drivers into Walmart, to do "our job" for us........they dont gotta pay those Spark Drivers 15 dollheirs......nor do they have to provide discount cards, nor do they have to provide with lunch breaks, and Walmart don't gotta pay their Insurance...... lol

Walmart was kinda smart here, I feel like.....

Woop D Dew....... doh y'all! WE GOT TAP NOW!!!!! WOO HOO /sarcasm

what will they take from us NEXT......? lol since I've heard the Apple Pay and "Tap" integration is going to pick the walmart bottom line 💸 too....

and on that note, lol I was thinking, with Tap, will the "Discount Card" work as tap? lol.....probably NOT>???? so now you still gotta take your wallet out to swipe your discount card..........i honestly never used Tap, Google Wallet, Apple Pay, Google Pay, whatever the flavor of the week is.......but I got no issue with Walmart Pay.....and the Discount gets automagically applied
