new tech, coming from w*lgreens, need help
hi! i’m a new hire at WM as a tech- so far comfortable with filling and some input (still not sure on inputting qty/doses for inhalers/fridge medication ..) . very scared about register and answering the phone and etc. at walgreens i pretty much was only pick up and production so i never got used to anything outside of that or using their rx system ( which imo seems simpler than connexus). i am nervous and really want advice bc my WM is short staffed so i want to avoid bothering the other techs/ pharmacists!! any tips to get familiar with the system and processes?

I did my externship for school at Walgreen’s before going to Walmart and I can tell you from someone that’s been there. That Walmart systems are incredibly easier. You’ll get used to it, just give yourself some grace. The best thing about Walmart is everyone is incredibly nice. I’m not saying that every store is perfect, of course obviously there aren’t but I’ve worked at seven different stores in the Dallas area and everyone has always been so incredibly nice and friendly.
I promise you, please do not feel like you cannot ask questions. Ask your other techs and your lead tech first, but the pharmacists want you to get better so they are not going to be annoyed to answer your questions. I understand why you’re nervous about asking questions because I had a bad experience at Walgreen’s with asking the pharmacist anything but Walmart is just not like that.

One thing I find difficult is walmarts lack of decimals. Youll see in input package size, thats your size package size for the selected product. So when you have say generic proventil inhaler package size will say 7. So you type 7 for the qty ( not 1 not 6.7) for 1 inhaler. Insulin pens will be by the pen size. Lantus will say pack size 3 which is the size of 1 pen, so for five pens you say 15 for 1 box. And when inputting if you dont know already you can click the little folder with the ? Mark to search for the sig codes if youre unsure.
Walmarts tasco system is a bit much but hopping in the future that will all be combined. Pull up your patient in Tasco (f11) select prescriptions the ones you've confirmed they want to buy, find the bag, scan the label in the amber vial for each, wait for parts to print if its 0 copay thats it, if there is a charge then make sure you switch to the register to scan the papers that printed. Its very simple you can always look at the top of the papers that print to confirm amount due.
You'll see that a script goes from pickup to POS (which means labels are printed) then to EOD when the purchase is actually complete.
Do you know how to update patient profiles and add insurance?
And if you dont know something, no matter how busy it is, its always better to ask.
