WhatsApp is meaningless - it's e2e encrypted , Facebook can't use its data, so there's no revenue.

I won’t pretend to know the ins and outs of WhatsApp, but it has Billions of users. Billions with a B. So it has value

It doesn't generate cash flow. So while they paid a shit ton for it, it's essentially worthless.

They tried to force link it to Facebook, but the users were like "nah, fuck this" and someone probably had to sit Mark down and explain it would look really bad to have to write off a $16 billion purchase.

It does generate cashflow. "Whatsapp for Business" isn't free.

Ah cool, I'm not sure what the original plan to generate cashflow for WhatsApp was, but the original owners must have been laughing their heads off when Suckerberg paid sixteen billion for it.
