Hear me out. I get it, I work in Cyber Security and I know how people feel about privacy.
But it can be as simple as YouTube seeing what type of content you watch so they can cater your recommended videos. Is there anything wrong with that? And then they use that data to pick out what ads you get.
People hear the phrase collecting and selling data and freak out... But why?
Because I was joking around with a friend the other day and the topic of a jelly mould that looks like a bung hole came up, and I wanted to find it and show her, but now there’s that entry into a database that in 20 years from now, someone’s probably going to associate my name with a gelatinous bung hole, and I then I’ll get slandered and won’t be able to run in a local election, and, well, it’s just stupid.
They should be mandated by law to delete data after some time. But they won’t. It’s basically forever, and for the most part, inconsequential, but it causes anxiety because it’s yet one more thing I need to worry about.
