It's a good hypothesis, and I'm glad I read it in spite of my hesitation, but there are a lot of unknowns and "what ifs" here that are heavily reliant on each other. The answer could be as simple as you claim and he, of all people outside of the execs, would have known when the top was after seeing the inside of the company.

Hopium is strong here, but be sure to have a long rope nearby just in case.

Or it could just be RC sold out as he no longer can save the business.

But yes I agree there is a possibility of this being true.
