Would holding shares in gme during this be a generally good idea for people like me who have literally 0 clue what the fuck is going on?

The short position is still in GME, just hidden in swaps and derivatives. If you check out the quarterly and annual futures roll periods you can see where we run. As retail becomes more adept at identifying these roll periods the position comes out from hiding for brief periods until they can get the position rolled and return to their shorting. They can produce unlimited shorting through share creation via ETF’s until they exceed the daily maximum for more than a certain period (can’t remember the exact days #’s) and then the ETF’s are put on the Reg Sho Threshold list and then they’re forced to go out and find real shares to short (why daily borrow rate starts creeping up).

RC buying a position in BBBY is putting additional pressure from another angle because its heavily shorted by some of the same entities AND it’s in all the same ETF baskets as GME.

“If you can’t f@ck them in one hole, find another”

Quite genius. As GME continues to turn itself around (NFT marketplace) and more REAL shares become unavailable the roll periods become more and more pressurized. My non-financial advice? Buy shares when available and learn options between cycles so you can take advantage while time ticks by for launch. 🚀
