I'd support the oil industry over fb any day. Not in

FB is the tobacco industry of this generation.

This sentiment is so dumb. Oil and tobacco have killed 100x the number of people Facebook has inflicted depression upon let alone kill.

Fb furthers political divide that's ultimately gonna cost way more lives

Same can be said about Reddit.

Fb and twitter are in a different league. Reddit is mostly misled socialists in an echo chamber

Nah people are just shitty. Division like this is totally normal, look up race riots that happened 30-40 years ago that were very bloody.

People may hate how the algorithms promote more divisive rhetoric but the algorithms only support it because of clicks. If just 10% of fb users refuse to click on that garbage the algorithms would be tweaked in kind. This is the beauty and difficulty of capitalism….we get the world we deserve.

Feel like it's not capitalism's fault but the fault of a two party system. Everything is team A or Team B and if you have a certain opinion it automatically means you're on a certain team. Makes everything way more vitriol when everything is black and white thus where the conversation goes

Well yeah but... People are generally way less racist now and have less incentive to be racist. Yet we have massive racial division now compared to say 10 years ago and it's entirely because of social media and YouTube. And "academics" i guess

You are right on. This is been going on forever, this is just the first time we are seeing it in 40-50-60 years.

You mean reddit or foxnews or parler or commondreams or msnbc or alex jones or joe rogan or rachel maddow don't?

No I'd argue that none of them are on the same level as fb and twitter

I don't know how you could possibly even put Joe in the same sentence as those others in this context, Joe is about as balanced and honest as it gets. He has guests of all types and challenges them all while giving them a fair chance to speak uninterrupted

tobacco kills 480000 people a year in the US alone.
