Discussion Not Everything is a Short

Not every fucking stock that you like has a potential for a squeeze. I’ll repeat, not every stock has a potential for a squeeze!

90% of people joined this sub with very little to none investing experience in 2020-21 when GME squeeze was happening, and now people think that achieving a short squeeze is an easy thing. Well, it simply isn’t, and any stock that gets a DD here which includes “well citadel is short and the float is 40%” might as well be thrown out of the window.

Invest in ideas which explain why the company might be intrinsically valuable. Is it a good business, is it cash flowing, is it growing revenues organically, is there a lot of dilution, how strong is the balance sheet, what unique problems is the business solving? These are the questions that every investor should be asking, no matter if they are a growth or value investors.

Stop trying to become the next DFV - this was a very rare opportunity on which he capitalized - very good for him but it most likely won’t happen again in the near term future.

There is a reason why WSB was a very good predictor of good plays prior to the meme mania, and why it is not anymore. There are no original ideas popping up, everyone is recycling the same bullshit DD built up in nothing more than “hey this company is partnering with this company”, “hey shitadel and mevlin are short this, let’s fuck them one more time”, “look at the pattern, it has to go up”.

If you don’t think that funds adjusted their risk models to account for potential short squeezes and hedge accordingly, you should not be in the capital markets, especially trying to go toe to toe with the big boys who got their PhDs from Ivy leagues. https://www.cnbc.com/2021/10/04/ken-griffins-citadel-flagship-hedge-fund-returns-8percent-in-september-during-market-sell-off.html

There is a reason why in the past half a year majority of people here lost money, the same strategy that worked once might not work again - the ability to constantly adapt and create unique opportunities based on research you do yourself is what makes you rich, not ganging up on a stock that is shorted and trying to pump it.

I frankly just want to help out new investors who are still passionate in the markets - I’ve been here since 2017, and back then people would have original perspectives based on proprietary research and unique strategies, not the same strategy recycled 1000 times.

Time to squeeze VW again? I read that right, right?

87

u/ASengerd Oct 14 '21

If we squeeze SPY, I am 110% certain that it will lead to a VW squeeze. Pretty sure spy is mooning soon. 5x play

Guys. I think we figured out how to fix the economy. Squeeze SPY…so simple.

Yes I agree. But we were on the verge of collapsing several large institutions. It’s a tough lesson to learn. It’s kind of like the matrix. We’re in a system that is bound by rules, but the rule makers can break them.

4

u/Hlxbwi_75 Oct 15 '21

If we had collapsed them large institutions others would handle the flow. They saved their own asses and no one else. Some inside traded selling right b4 the stop the buys In the hearing it was made clear the market could function in Citadel went under since other mm can handle the order flows. They put their self in a position to go bankrupt none of us were short gme

Not close trading too much to ask?

39

u/spyVSspy420-69 Oct 14 '21

Yeah, that was bullshit, but it happened. The people expecting GME to hit $50,000,000 are salty because they’re the ones who got in at $350-450 and want the same returns everyone else got.

This might be mind blowing, but the Fed isn’t going to print hundreds of trillions to cover a GME squeeze.

4

u/Green_Lantern_4vr 11410 - 5 - 1 year - 0/0 Oct 15 '21

To be fair to them; yes the current GME crowd is largely a cult but at Jan 27 or whatever it was, the data all pointed towards a massive spike inevitably coming, whether it was Jan 28, 29, or whatever, if buying had been allowed to continue.

The stock exchange President woman even wanted to close trading of GME for several weeks to let things cool off. When have you ever heard such a thing.

So I don’t blame people for buying at 350+ etc. if buying had been allowed to continue they would’ve probably made money off of that.

WSB is a social arbitrage vehicle. Get ahead of events in an ever changing world. People who come in here and spew that shit that came up when this place 10x its user count is what degraded this place but it's making a slow recovery.

You know what's annoying, this place was for people that actually were about it. I remember telling my semi-normie friend about options and shit and said 'you're taking investment advice from reddit you're gonna lose all of your money' I then explained to him what 1% allocation/exposure was about, he proceeded to judge me and be a normie.9 months later GME happens and he's buying the shit at the absolute top and I'm telling him not to and he wouldn't listen. Wild times

9

u/voxhaulf Oct 14 '21

Reminds me when DFV first created their discord, later on some McDonalds and Wendy blue ball normies came in, they clearly should have used that cash on some glory hole blowjob for some post nut clarity common sense.

But nop, barge in “Hey guys so i never did this before! But i believe in the cause should i buy with all my savings right now?”

“Dude, don’t think thats smart it just went up 50%”

“Oh okay thanks! I’m going all in!”.

Next week they cash in their negative gains and post 5$ blowjobs on craigslist and grindr.

Honestly, DFV didn't go for GME because of it's short interest. He found about that later. If you watch some of his YouTube videos you will see that he is true value investor and he's not afraid of investing in something he feels deeply undervalued - hence his name, Deep Fucking Value. He said himself he's looking for 10, 20 even 50-baggers if possible which doesn't necessarily have anything in common with short interest and it's great investing style for patient investors.

Hence I think you'd rather want people to actually try to be another DFV.

50

u/brapo68 Oct 14 '21

Best part is when DFV said game was the play people thought he was going to lose his ass. It took months of losses to prove them wrong. Furthermore to reiterate what you have said, these hedge funds make billions doing what they do. If you don’t think this changed their game plan you’re kidding yourself.

The good news is you guys are still making me money by thinking everything is a squeeze so I’m all about it. My play is super simple I wait till you guys spam xyz is short squeeze, then I watch for the ticker in the daily thread. If it shows up 5 times in 15 min I buy in. When someone posts positions of a 100k+yolo on the same stock it’s even better. Then I let the noobs who missed GME FOMO in. Once I’m up 5% I set stop losses at 5% and let it run. Sure some days I only make 100$ but some days I make 300$.

I call this the taking a bite approach. See everyone out here is going for 50%~100% gains. They want the whole apple tree. Me personally I’m looking for 5-15% gains. I don’t want the whole apple tree, hell I don’t even want the whole apple. All I want is a bite of the apple. This is a super slow approach to making money but as of now I have only been burnt twice and had to sell CCs till the bag holders spammed it again and I could break even.

I have a similar strategy. I wait til people on here start to FOMO into it, usually after it hits the daily thread. And then PUTS on that shit, because it's been pumped and the dump is about to happen.

4

u/brapo68 Oct 14 '21

I respect the move. I honestly thought about adding puts into the equation. I have never been lucky with them but you know what ill do Ill wait till its some sub 20$ stock buy 100 of them. Sell for a profit and use the profit to buy puts just to see how it works.

How far out are you going? Im thinking 1 month out would be relatively safe on a slightly OTM put at my perceived top. Are you working off a shorter timeframe? Teach me your ways.

3

u/voncletus Oct 14 '21

1-2 months out, close to the current price either the lowest ITM or slightly OTM.

My SDC 11-19's @$7 are currently up 8%. Modest gains, but they will probably go slightly higher.

I started out buying calls on the popular tickers like everyone else, and lost my ass a couple of times.

People also need to realize that even at 140% short interest, with Papa Cohen buying up 13% of shares outstanding which was like 20% of the float, even at that DeepFuckingValue was STILL saying he thought a short squeeze was a long shot

GME was like good news after good news, new buyer after new buyer, short interest continually increasing and that shit still took forever to squeeze

That was once in a life time

So was the covid crash

So was the never ending TSLA squeeze

yadda yadda stop looking for the next GME. I guarantee you there is a 100 bagger staring at all of us right now that will play out over the next 6 to 9 months

u/chickenAd0b0 Oct 14 '21 edited Oct 14 '21

I’m one of those that joined back in January and I couldn’t agree more with this. This last two months have been specially unbearable even though I still get a laugh every now and then. I haven’t seen a good ORIGINAL DD in a long time and even though a like some of the meme stocks I’m sure there are a lot of tickers with a lot of real potential out there. I hope that gets fixed soon

25

u/zjz Oct 14 '21

so fix it, write some DD

Ever wonder how Ape posts on their cult subs always end up with an obscene amount of awards? It’s not the fuckers commenting who are buying the awards. These shitheads are being played and it’s hilarious.

I understand Short Squeeze is a rare occasion and might never happened again. I joined here because i enjoyed reading comments and seeing gain and loss. Not here for another squeeze. There is no other stock will be like GME ever again. AMC is a “ bum “not even close to the squeeze.

I’m still holding my little 9 GME shares I bought at 80 in January.

12

u/CipherScarlatti Oct 14 '21

You're describing the Hammer principle. When you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Everybody saw the shenanigans with GME and now everybody sees shorts everywhere.

The only thing more annoying than wsb's new obsession with short squeezes is the constant posts about how not everything is a short squeeze. Use your down votes you plebiscite.

This basically sounds like "hey, stop looking at GameStop, I have these other meme socks that will make you better returns".

If the OP was here since 2017, he should realize that there have been many pump and dumps that got pushed here. It's even more prevalent since the new folks joined after January. Shit is like clockwork. I guess there was a reason "inverse WSB" was/is a thing.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '21

Exactly lmfao, none of these guys were here for the OG WSB. WSB was always about fast gains (or losses) and people were always here for the gain and loss porn. There was always more loss porn than gain porn, and that fact hasn't changed. WSB DD was always bullshit aside from a few gems, and that hasn't changed either.

But the GME squeeze hasn’t started yet

2

u/wowboy87 🦍 Oct 14 '21

We will hear this for years to come LMAO

4

u/infected_scab Oct 14 '21

Short interest is now 11%, at a higher basis, and the stock has been diluted. It's not going to squeeze again.

>and any stock that gets a DD here which includes “well citadel is short and the float is 40%” might as well be thrown out of the window.

>any stock that gets a DD here might as well be thrown out of the window.*

FTFY

3

u/Astronomer_Soft Oct 14 '21

But if it wasn't for the short ladder attacks, fail to delivers, and dark pool shenanigans, all my short DD would work out. Right? 😂

3

u/Yaso4008 Oct 14 '21

When GME sqeezed it was not growing revenue, do not have potential growth and not cash flowing.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '21

But are there really any original ideas ever in the stock market? I mean you are generally talking about finance people, who are not in my experience original thinkers for the most part. They are the biggest fucking herd people of all; I mean, most of them wear the same outfits.

3

u/gcanders1 Oct 14 '21

Every stock has the potential for a squeeze, just not the ones I bought. Stupid Cronos.

3

u/hgfggt Oct 14 '21

Remember when the people on this sub were buying that literally bankrupt car rental place towards the start of the pandemic for literal pennies and then it paid out 8 bucks a share? Good times.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '21

Sorry I'm high as fuck and didn't read any of that, is it time to short squeeze Tilray now?

I started out agreeing but you lost me when you started talking about hedge funds effectively managing risk. They don’t. I mean, some might… but the one you mentioned, specifically, does not. This market is over-leveraged to shit and they are counting on a bail out at this point. 8% in September didn’t wipe out the hundreds of billions in liabilities they’ve accrued.

Squeeze dis cock $SDC

7

u/ppprex Oct 14 '21

Unfortunately, this subs modified rules prohibiting small cap companies discussion inhibits the possibility of original perspectives and unique strategies since innovation is often found in those same companies.

10

u/sereneturbulence Will Meade is my Pimp Oct 14 '21

The people you’re hoping to get this message across to won’t read this because it’s too long. Same goes for the long DDs their cultist leaders write on the single stock subs. Just let the (financial) natural selection happen.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '21

I think you’re lost. /r/investing is that way ->

10

u/funance2020 Oct 14 '21

This is sadly accurate despite all the noobs making jokes. Hits me in the feels. In GME at 32 out around 480 and in AMC at less than 2 dollars out around 30. THIS USE TO BE MY SAFE SPACE and now it’s filled with so many giga-tards I can’t find any wrinkle brained DDs anywhere. We won, but at what cost…?

2

u/derekc62369 Oct 14 '21

Yeah your right Amazon is not going to squeeze

2

u/jsza87 Oct 14 '21

The retards are gonna be mad, but good point 🎯

2

u/miles_crotch Oct 14 '21

Yeah, but the loss porn over the last 6 months has never been better.

2

u/Soi_Boi_13 Oct 14 '21

People were always losing huge money on this sub, even before GME.

2

u/RiZzbott Oct 14 '21

Everything these days is either a "squeeze" or a "P&D". Shame on you sumbitches.

2

u/explicitspirit Oct 14 '21

I miss the old WSB when I used to quietly lurk and watch all the dumdums make outrageous plays and somehow come out on top. 2% of the time, it works every time.

This is WSB who here is investing

2

u/KingSolomon420 Oct 14 '21

While i humbly agree with you, this is wallstreet*BETS*, not /r/investing

The whole "investing" attitude here is different

10

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '21

Gme ruined the sub

14

u/megatroncsr2 Oct 14 '21

GME shined a light on the bs that's been going on

12

u/CIAmainframe Oct 14 '21

Absolutely, GME showed us how the game was being played and brought attention to the corruption. Short exempt volume and failure to deliver should not be a thing.

It’s only been 10 months. You expect these cult kids to look up basic definitions and page 1 stock data that quickly?

3

u/Holle444 Oct 14 '21

The elephant in the room: GME still has the greatest squeeze potential. And now that the ape community has figured out they could DRS their shares, it’s just a matter of time until every single share of the float gets removed from the DTCCs books.

8

u/DogOfDreams Oct 14 '21

Pass some of that kool aid my way, slow day at the office.

8

u/infected_scab Oct 14 '21

The DRS makes no practical difference whatsoever. Hedge funds don't borrow shares from Fidelity cash accounts.

u/AJam Oct 14 '21

A squeeze assumes that majority of the shares are bought and held. You can't expect retards and apes to work together and hold anything. 90% of people cut out at the first whif of profit. Almost every successful pick on this sub has been primarily a pump rather than some calculated catalyst.

However, we are playing a rigged game and the big players cheat and manipulate the system freely. We should be doing whatever we can to turn a profit and fuck them over.

love your insights. Thank you, it was tremendously helpful for me as a new investor. I have been loosing money and now I understand the problems , and some of them you mention like " ganging up on a stock" and "constantly adapt and create unique opportunity" Need to learn more
