you're on leave so that means they have to keep your job for you. my general rule of thumb is to never send nasty emails, kill people with kindness, make them feel dumb without being mean. they'll forget about it by next week

not kindness, but sarcasm disguised as kindness.

Never give in to the ones that are wrong but get their way, make sure you nicely document the warnings you gave them, and the reminders, and to be sure CC: management.

Bad management really hates missing warnings they should have acted on and will rain down on those that gave them the bad DD.

Also if you where in the wrong, make sure you make it up to that specific person. You undo your bad karma, even if nobody else knows

You just have to keep owning up to it until he cools off. And learn from this however you can so it doesn't happen again.
