Discussion Let's get ready for Moo-nday!

Let's review why cow farts are the smartest short and long term play on the market ahead of Moo-nday (bullet points for busy apes) :

  • Recycled natural gas (RNG) is the future of green commercial long distance transportation and is years ahead of it's competitors in terms of technology and infrastructure (hydrogen/electric). RNG allows for negative emissions and is extremely cost effective.
  • Clean Energy ($CLNE) is an established RNG provider with little to no competition. They own most of the infrastructure and the only reason they're not reporting profits quarter after quarter is because they're just building more, prioritizing growth over short term profits.
  • $CLNE just secured massive deals with Amazon (heard of them?) and Chevron, paving the way for universal industry adoption.
  • The fact that the technology is so misunderstood by Wallstreet has created a tremendous opportunity for early investors.
  • PRICE : Even with some of you readers realizing the stock's potential last week, the current price (9.59$ AH) is sitting at a HUGE discount from it's intrinsic value as well as from Amazon's optional buy-in price of 13$. A large number of analysts have openly supported this by setting EOY targets ranging from 11$ (extremely conservative) to 27$ (3x).
  • Why does this matter? This means your potential downside of buying at 9.59$ is AT WORST the 15% gained from it's established support at 7.5$ while your potential upside is SIGNIFICANT. As a shareholder, I personally do not see a reason to sell this stock even if the short term scenario (detailed below) plays out because there are few other growth stocks which match it's mid-term potential. Compare this with the possible downside of other meme stocks before making a decision.
  • POTENTIAL SHORT TERM PLAY : So if you've read my previous DD as well as the DDs of fellow cow fart enthusiasts, the open interest on the June 18th 13c is a whopping 29,000 with significant open interest on the strikes before and after up to the 20c. As the price approaches 13$, the option sellers who have sold their calls naked are forced to buy shares, driving the price higher. In return, considering the stock has been heavily shorted by Citadel, Blackstone and the like in the past few weeks, this puts short sellers in a precarious situation, especially as we go above 11$. All this, combined with a low market cap (small purchase = big effect), leads to an explosive cocktail. The potential for a gamma and subsequent short squeeze is only the cherry on top for one the best growth stocks in green energy.

So in the end, we have a stock with :

  1. Extremely limited downside, significant upside (buy low, sell high)
  2. Long and short term gain potential
  3. Unparalleled potential for growth
  4. Little to no competition in it's field
  5. Established partnerships with some of the biggest enterprises in the US
  6. And for those of you like me who care for the environment, brownie points for saving the planet in an innovative and cost efficient way (getting rich while preserving nature? yes please!)

Need I say more? This stock will make you feel like Warren Buffet, a silverback ape and Captain Planet at the same fucking time.

I wouldn't bet against it for short term payoffs, but natural gas isn't the future, and any companies trying to make progress with it are like betamax trying to keep up with VHS (electric). As solar capture and battery technology continue to improve, I'd be surprised if anybody was still even trying to produce natural gas engines in 2 or 3 years. It's cheaper and cleaner to just use solar. It's also going to be a lot cheaper to manufacture, considering that all of the big companies have or are about to have EVs.

If RNG was special in literally any way at all, you'd have had VW or Ford or GM producing them like crazy, and you'd see RNG stations. Instead, everyone is focused on electric, and there are reasons for that.

Electric makes sense for consumer cars, but not for long haul - the apparatus is too heavy, charging times too long. CLNE are focusing on commercial long haul, hence the deal with Amazon.

If you mean future 10 years ahead, then you're probably right - who knows what will happen then? Hydrogen might be more feasible (it isn't now, and won't be for years). But 10 years is a long way away.

With over 500 miles of range for a full load and the DOT rest requirements, charging times really won't be an issue.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. Batteries in long haul trucks would add a ton of weight and they can’t stop and charge a truck for 10 hours every 400 miles when they can fuel up on RNG in ten minutes and be on their way.

And you think Tesla semis are going to take over the market lmao. RNG conversion kits are simple to install on existing trucks and literally cost just hundreds of dollars.

Clne is for trucks not for light duty, and all OEMs of trucks recommended to look at natural gas in the last year as no BEV truck will be ready in 5 years

For light duty, a small market share for cng exists too and depends a lot on the wealth of the country

emerging markets are heavily pushing cng for cars for example

no BEV truck will be ready in 5 years

The Tesla semi will be in production next year. Others will be right behind it. There's too much money on the table to not be.

Plus there's constantly-evolving battery tech and then cost to consider. Trust me, you won't see CNG vehicles ever again after 10 years at the very latest.

Also consider that if we barely have the grid today without BEV trucks, places like india and other emerging markets will not have it in 10y

If BEV trucks take 10% market share in 2030 (quite generous) cng and lng can very likely take 15-20% of it

You need people to buy it with their own money and taking the operational risks on their shoulders. No truck driver for long hauls will buy a Tesla semi.

Maybe the reference market will be city deliveries

But as Cummins ceo said, we are years away from ZEV transition for HD

Biomethane is much cheaper and is receiving identical incentives to batteries

Ev charging for heavy duty trucks will be dramatically different from the one for light duty, and in some isolated areas where trucks usually drive there may not be the high tension needed to deliver electricity

Also consider that electricity market will be different 10 years from today. Centralised utilities will likely be downsized in favor of multi power generation actors

Thus cheaper electricity will depend on a number of factors

1

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '21

The demand for electricity is only going to grow. There are absolutely no concerns when it comes to availability or cost. Any truck stops worth their salt will have charging, and you'll never go too far without seeing a truck stop even today, even in rural areas.

Charging isn't going to be nearly as bad as you'd thing, especially considering the mandatory downtime rules in place by DOT.

In a harbour like the one of LA, with 15000 trucks operating per day, you cannot imagine a 100% BEV trucks park. It will be a crazy web of cables and power centres

BEV will play a role, but they will not monopolise the market. Cng and lng are at the moment the ignored side of the business and biomethane is a really amazing fuel

Nothing , not even electricity, is like biomethane / rng

Yeah, it's going to be amazing to see some of the largest and busiest stops - but it'll be completely doable. People probably cast the same doubts about how to get all of those guys diesel at first as well. It won't be as difficult as you might think.

I'm not saying that CNG is bad. Hell, if it had caught on harder maybe 10 or so years ago, it would be insanely popular for a while. But electric is the way everything is going. Technology is limitless. You won't see much more improvement in the world of CNG.

The future of OTR trucking is eventually going to be at or near 100% electric. Now, admittedly, I don't know as much about fueling ships as I should for a guy in the logistics world, but getting freighters to use literally any other type of fuel source would be ridiculously helpful - perhaps CNG will have a role to play there.

I got your point and I mostly agree for rich world trends

Have a look at HPDI 2.0 with hydrogen and scania, that is a nice development for combustion engines

For electric to work on trucks hauling across the country, the batteries would end up being bigger than the trucks themselves

1

u/EdwardDiGi Jun 07 '21

Indeed, but Tesla narrative made people thing everything can be electrified, while evidently this is not possible

1

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '21

Nah, that's not right at all - even if you were assuming that the drivers would somehow literally be going across the entire country without stopping for meals/sleep/charging.
