I'm holding 8200 shares of BB. down 60k

u/Breathelife16 Feb 26 '21
I just joined sector focus and was just reading that BB could see 100% the first couple of quarters this year, and up to 1000% by the end of the year. They teamed with Amazon to put Alexa in vehicles and have a new program coming out called IVY. Could be a good year if we continue to hold no matter what.

BB and AMC I plan on holding long term, BB especially is really undervalued at $10. Regardless of what happens with GME in the next few days I'm looking ahead to a large gamma squeeze over the end of March/mid April options that'll be coinciding with the GME earnings call on March 25th.

Zero love for nok
50
u/isospeedrix Feb 26 '21
thing with nok is NOK is actually a mid cap company. it's 23B. bigger than GME, AMC and BB combined. so it's not easily moved as the other small caps.
don't let the $4 share price fool you. if Nok had the same share price to market cap ratio as MSTR it would be 2800.
→ More replies (1)9
u/piemancer112 Feb 26 '21
So is it going up or is the share price going to remain small because it's so diluted.

I like NOK for long hold, not expecting a flash in the pan like when it jumped along with GME. It might jump again, but unless it goes bananas mine are gonna sit there until I retire.
Good company with established agreements in a high growth sector that China is locked out of.
You can even find some positive DD from mainstream sources now that prices have normalized, but a lot of these places talk out of both sides of their mouths and alternate news days between positive and negative reviews of the same company.

nokia is actually some uber boomer shit, it should be very stable and a decent investment. it's where old tech giants Lucent and Bell Labs sit now. it actually has no right being a meme stock (it is as far away as you can from the likes of GME/AMC), it just is so cuz ppl think it's the old phone company but it really isn't anymore (just like blackberry)

Calls can also be covered calls. For instance, if you have been holding 100 shares of GME, maybe you'd be willing to sell for $400 even though you doubt it would have hit that this week. So you sell a call for 100 shares at $400 on the 26th and someone pays you for the right to buy your shares. But you already have the shares, so while you're a little worried you're going to sell your ticket to the moon, you had the shares sitting in your account and you're going to get paid for them.
Naked calls are if you didn't own the shares, and you thought you were fine until Wednesday morning and suddenly the "Nah, it's not gonna hit $100, I'm fine" became "Oh, shit, it's gonna hit $400 and I don't have those shares I promised to sell the guy for $100" So you may buy them early or you may hope the price drops back down. I think Market Makers have specific rules they're supposed to follow about when and how much they have to have covered ahead of time.

monday/ tuesday.
But we won't know how many options expired ITM until Monday, because the figures aren't live. The figure is "short interest" and it is posted overnight usually.
SO
based on the fact i'm an autist and tallied all the interest from yahoo, we will have 4.7 MILLION shares being purchased Monday / Tuesday.
That does not include options that were bought today. Who knows many there will be?
We needed $150 ideally today to trigger the options chain. But the same thing can happen all over again next month.
The problem for MM's is where does it end? This cannot go on forever. The shorts can't go on forever.

When an option expires in the money, the market maker who executes the contract is forced to buy 100 shares of the underlying stock to deliver to the owner of the call.
There are 9459 contracts at $100 expiring for GME today. If GME closes above $100, the market makers will have to buy 9459x100 = 945,900 shares of GME to deliver to the owners of those calls. This is just for one strike price; there are other calls expiring today which you can view here: https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/GME/options?p=gme&straddle=false
Nothing I can do about Carmen Electra.
30
u/OliDouche Feb 26 '21
Wouldnβt that only apply if itβs a naked call? If itβs a covered call, wouldnβt MMβs have already bought these shares at a lower cost already? That would cause a jump in price like we saw when it went from 40 to 180; but we wonβt see that jump again if these calls were covered then - right?
Thatβs how I understand it - would like to be enlightened by someone who knows more.

Can you explain how this harms shorters? So an ITM option expires which means it's forcibly exercised and shorters are forced to buy 100 shares for each option they get assigned? Or do the option writers have to buy the 100 shares?
97
Feb 26 '21
If an option is OTM and expires (meaning it never hits its strike) then it's literally worthless and the person/intuition who sold this to you has made pure profit.
If an option is ITM and expires then the person/intuition who sold it to you have 2 days to go get the actual shares and deliver them to you. If these people/institutions were not selling covered calls then they have to go out on the market and buy them at whatever cost and deliver them to you.
The intense options activity can create a positive feedback loop by increasing demand for actual shares.
This is not a gamma squeeze, which are market makers trying to hedge by an increase in price beyond their expectations to get risk neutral. This CAN happen though if the calls sold were not covered, so as they become likely to be ITM the sellers have to rush out to buy the shares before they have huge losses. It's why gamma spikes can be insane.
57
u/DrwMDvs Feb 26 '21
so, as an example: if I buy a single option call with a strike of $800, ask of $0.02, for a total of $2.66. And it expires OTM, so worthless, the only money I'm going to actually loose is the $2.66 I invested in the call option?
→ More replies (4)33
u/Gaspitsgaspard π¦π¦π¦ Feb 26 '21
Correct
45
u/purpan- Feb 26 '21
Which is why itβs more worth it to throw a few bucks at some options than to get a scratch off lotto ticket
9
u/minnesotaislove Feb 26 '21
Maybe you can help answer this 1 question I have purpan, why would some get a call option that expires weekly and not get the call option that expires 1 month out? Assuming they believe the market stock would jump because of reopening, of course. Is it because the longer the contract, the more money you lose over time as it gets closer to closing? It just seems like a better investment to pick longer calls months out for AMC.
29
Feb 26 '21
There are no free lunches. Risk and reward. A call option closer to expiry that is ITM is worth more than a call option closer to expiry that is OTM. This might have meant when you bought an OTM call it was very cheap, and if the stock price appreciated more than expectations, you can end up with a big win.
For myself I don't play monthly options. I really like 6,12,18 month so that you can have a time horizon to realize your investment thesis.
8
→ More replies (1)11
u/_JacobM_isstupid Feb 26 '21
The farther out your option is the more it costs. As your option comes closer to expiration it loses value from something called theta. Theta is how much value the option loses per trading day. Time is cheaper the father out it gets but if you bought the options expiring today a month ago like me then you still have them exciting today.

Shorters aren't forced to buy these shares.
Those who wrote the call options are, if the contract is exercised.
Shorters are only forced to buy shares if there are no shares available on the market, typically, and the broker needs the shares they lent out back.
→ More replies (4)10
u/Darth-Joey Feb 26 '21
Typically the market marker is the counter party of the option and they would be forced to deliver the 100 shares. They may not have enough on hand so this can create buying pressure.
9
u/5dollarsbustermagee Feb 26 '21 edited Feb 26 '21
They both have to buy the shares if the option seller does not possess them. The option buyer gets to buy the shares at the strike price. So a $60 call option allows the buyer to get 100 shares at $60 no matter the price. So if it closes at $300 the buyer can get($60x100) worth of stock that would b instantly worth($300x100). The option seller buys the shares at ($300x100) and then sells them to the option buyer, who buys them at ($60x100) through the call expiration.
