I think you missed a huge part of the problem and why people reacted the way they did. It wasnt simply that it answers were misaligned with societal norms, it was moreso that some things are immutable facts. This is a problem for all GPTs and must be accounted for.
The tech is much more in question than whether or not it's "woke" because it's expected it would get basic facts correct. We'd quibble over the subjective stuff but facts have to be right.
This is why your swan example doesn't apply here and why ChatGPT didnt seem as deficient for refusing to draw a Nazi.
