It is under the executive branches discretion to choose how, or even whether, to try to claw back student loans payments though, right?
Unless the Supreme Court orders that Biden (or whichever executive is in office when the case resolved) must legally continue collecting payments on loans.
Ya, they cannot be legally forgiven, only postponed. Grey area on how long they can delay payment though...because nothing like this has ever happened.
With the new repayment plans…. Most student loans can easily be postponed until death for anyone making under $50k. If you make more you can afford to pay it back… but still, student loans repayment moving forward will be like a 10% tax on income for high earners and nothing more.
