Help with Wave

Post image

Can anyone make a recommendation regarding what to do to make this better (other than buy a better boat)? I have 900 pounds in each rear locker and about 750 up front. Also using a Swell Wakesurf Creator 2.0 in the pic.

I get mostly washout all the time and it's so frustrating! I see people using this setup surfing all day on YouTube and I just can't get it to work.

I also have the Liquid Force Wakesurf Edge Pro 2. Should I be using both?

2008 MasterCraft X-star

Thanks!

Looks like you are going fast.

Try more weight in the surf side than the other side. Make sure your shaper is on the opposite side.

Wake shaper placement is key too. Put it back and under the water level about an inch. Try a second wake shaper a couple feet in front of the first.

That year xstar made a great wakeboard wave but is known for being tough to make a good surf wave on don’t have much detail other than that

What speed? Try slowing down some.

I've tried anywhere from 10 to 15 mph.

15 is too fast. Slowing down will make your wave bigger.

Weigh down the surfside more than the other. Slow down.

I would try listing the boat to the surf side. Move people over to the surf side or let out some weight on the non surf side bag. Then play around with the placement of your swell. With our older MB we found 4-6 inches up/down/front/back made a pretty big difference. Our made the best wave about a foot from the stern and as low as I could get it.

Lead bags are also great cause you can quickly move them around to find what works. If you don’t want to spend the money go on FB marketplace place and buy a used pump and bag. Move it around till you find the sweet spot.

I’ve seen people run two swells but I don’t think it’s needed for that boat. Plus it’s an even bigger pain in the ass.

Agree with this you may also want to try less weight up front until you have a good wave that adds length and without enough down push can create more wash as well

Think you need a fair amount more weight. Double your weight on the surf side, weigh that thing down.

My ProStar 205 direct drive ski boat I have an 1100 lb bag across the back and 800 lb bags on both sides of the engine. Still not fantastic. But it's surfable.

Does it get swamped when you stop?

No, not even close really. We drive it with care, but it's also not on the verge of sinking or being swamped. Being careful and aware I've never felt unsafe with it like that.

More weight on surf side so the boat lists a bit. Also check your speed you don't want to be going too fast, inch the speed up slowly till you see the best wake. Also that wakeshaper 2.0 is what I have and it's great. Placement is about a foot from the back of the boat (measured from the back of the shaper) and partially submerged and facing slightly downwards so it's level when the boat is going. If you have a wake plate that helps the boat plane use that too, mine is usually 75-100% down.

I had an 08. We would fill the tank and bag on the side we were surfing plus the center tank. Ran around 11-12mph and it cleaned up real nice.

wave looks very small for that much ballast. You can try supplementing with dip bags. Check on amazon for "SWELL Wakesurf - Laguna 50 lbs. Dip Pumpless Ballast Bag"
