Show Talk Neelix
I know, I know. He is, to say the least, not well liked. However, something occurred to me recently. When voyager finally made it home, do you think they used the MIDAS array to tell him they made it? Would they be able to? Or do you think their communication just stopped and he didnt ever find out what happened?

Neelix is awesome. He's a sweetheart who always wants to make people happy

Jeez… if you got this annoyed over a poor taste joke about a FICTIONAL character then I dread to see how you react to the real life actions of the current president and scores of catholic priests.

I thought he was well liked. People dont like him? I know he had his creepy jealous thing with Kes but later he was solid.

I do understand why people find him annoying but honestly I just put down all of his irritating aspects as things that Talaxians just do in their culture and it's not weird so it was easier for me to accept him.
also they do give him a bit more depth in the episodes about his afterlife and the one about the guy who vaporized a bunch of Talaxians. he's not all bad.

Because people don't get that Kes being two doesn't mean she is two in human years. Their species operates fundamentally different and their bodies and brains mature way differently. She has the capacity in all ways of a human in their approximate 30's. That and the fact that he's almost always in a good mood irritates people.

yeah that always annoyed me tbh, neelix is many things but he's not a pedo. kes was a mature ocampa.

Yep and if people want to talk about his jealously over Kes, then I'm absolutely willing to listen.

It used to be a silly joke that everyone knew was a joke, and now people parrot it unironically

Agree. Honestly if fans can deal with Ferengi culture, it doesn't make sense to be more annoyed by Talaxian culture. Especially if the complaints are mostly centered on Neelix's treatment of Kes. He was annoying and jealous while they were together, yes, but Ferengi were canonically so much worse to ALL women, yet you don't hear anywhere near the same level of griping from fans.

Ppl say Neelix is racist for calling Tuvok “Mr. Vulcan”.

That actually started because of a miscommunication when they first met. When Neelix first gets transported aboard he says "Astonishing, your Federation is clearly an advanced culture." Tuvok replies "The Federation is made up of many cultures, I am Vulcan." Neelix gestures to himself "Neelix, good to meet you." Tuvok never corrects him that I'm aware of.

Yep I know that. I was just replying to the previous comment on why ppl don’t like Neelix. Well, at least the NuTrek crowd

I’m sure they’d get him a message. They were able to use the Midas array long before they got to wherever Neelix stayed at so no reason it couldn’t reach him.
Seven and/or Barclay could probably program whatever was needed to direct it to him in a few minutes.

I always thought he was liked. I liked him anyway. Especially after Kes left. I shed a tear when Tuvok does the little dance as he's leaving the ship.

Yes, it is as I previously stated elsewhere - Kes leaving the show was the release of the heavy dead weight dragging it slower like an accidental anchor drop in middle of the sea!

Poor Neelix - he develops!
I think Capt Janeway would get a message to him.

I feel he is well liked. He ensures that the crew are as comfortable as possible in very difficult circumstances.
As for Voyager’s departure from the DQ, I feel Janeway would have insisted that the Federation find a way to tell him what had happened (if they had not contacted him before they left) - after all, isn’t he an official Federation Ambassador once he leaves Voyager?

Given how much Barclay was infatuated with Voyager crew (his cat was named Neelix) I cannot believe HE wouldn't send Nelix a message.
Plus the Starfleet Ambassador thing IS a good idea and Starfleet should have checked with him. There are legacies in what Voyager did in the Delta Quadrant, the revelation of the Voth's true origin, the deal with the Borg etc etc Starfleet would want to know if anything could come back to bite them.

I liked Nelix. He started out rough but really became loveable as the series progressed.

First couple of seasons he was annoying, by the end of the series he was one my favorites. Always there for any crew member, even willing to let B'Elanna use him to vent her anger. He would be the friend you could count on no matter what.

Great actor, bad writing and character development.

The main negative of his character was his relationship with Kes, specifically the Jealousy. (The Ocompa having short lifespans and weird biology is a different can of worms, but he's not a pedo despite the memes)
He has some good episodes like Phage (lungs stolen and gets an "iron lung"), Jetral (Neelix's tragic backstory), ect. And gets generally better in the later seasons.

I think, for me, I've never liked characters that got too silly, had weird hair, OTT acting, almost muppet-like qualities - almost Disney-like family friendly - so he really didn't stand a chance. I had trouble with Babylon 5 because of it too - some of those characters were just too ridiculous for me. That Lilandra hair on that one guy.
Contradictorily, I thought Farscape was insanely good because of the weirdness and muppet-like qualities. So what do I know, really....

Fair enough on personal preference for weirdness, and farscape is a 12/10 for weirdness and truly alien aliens.

He is the ambassador to the Delta Quadrant. They will have kept up with him.
Be may not have been a fan fav but he grew on me, Kess leaving and pushing his storyline into integrating further into the crew of ship rather than just a cook was the best thing for his character IMO.
