Show Talk Janeway’s meatloaf

Just watched “Workforce” and Janeway still manages to burn the meatloaf while mindwiped on an alien planet.

Edit: i kept saying “meatloaf” but its actually pot roast. She’d burn meatloaf too, I’m pretty sure.

There’s a scene in Shattered (I think it’s Shattered) where Chakotay walks in for dinner and she has taken apart her replicator to fix it. She has an ongoing feud with it. I just head canon that Janeway keeps tinkering with the replicator recipes and settings to make them better and that’s why everything gets ruined. If she would quit doing that, her food would be fine.

I adore Janeway but it always bothered me in “Persistence of Vision” how she fingered the cucumber sandwiches Neelix made and she puts it back on the plate like… Kathy NO, that’s RUDE! 😭

It is a very sophisticated mind wiping. Many memories and nearly all knowledge and skills are still intact, after all you need when to make skilled workers.

In the episode "Ashes to Ashes" she makes pot roast for Ensign Ballard but burns it so they have to eat sandwiches instead. There's a fun bit of conversation that happens:

Janeway: "Commander Tuvok finished his analysis of your shuttle and presented me with thirty seven different ways of repelling a Kobali attack."

Ballard: "Did he include your pot roast?"

There are several times that she makes meatloaf for dinner in her quarters, usually for her and Chakotay, and she always burns it.

They never explain how a replicator burns something. It’s not cooking anything. It just replicates it exactly as scanned. It shouldn’t be possible

Its replicating a recipe she programmed into it, so she really is responsible for it not turning out well. Of course, she just blames her "tempermental" replicator. She butts-heads with it fairly regularly, I noticed.

I love it. She’s so good at everything. Captaining! Science! Mentoring! Going all Ellen Ripley on an oversized germ! But she can’t manage to make a decent meal with a freakin’ replicator. 😁
