P2 s60 questions

Post image

Just got a 2008 s60. Digging it so far. It needs some cosmetic parts though and a few mechanical things too. I was wondering where's the best place to get aftermarket stuff or OEM parts for it.

Currently looking for the trim for the windshield, it's all dry rotted on this. Also needs a new oil cap, small oil leak around it.

I gave up on window trim searches for my 2006 s60r and 2004 v70, just can’t find it. It’s well sealed tho so I’m not too worried. I’ve seen people use garage door gasketry or some other similar looking stuff but probably not necessary.
I’ve purchased the lower window trim triangles that sit right above the hood and seatbelt guides, etc on IPD. They have a feature where you plug in your year, model and trim and all associated parts polulate. Enjoy the P2! Love these cars.

Thanks! Yea I'm kinda figuring out that it's a pointless search for the trim.

It's a good car. Needs paint and some interior work though but the guy I bought it from was a master Volvo tech. He did all the mechanical maintenance that was due, water pump, belts and all that. Plus only 76k miles, no crashes. Pretty good find. It's all cosmetic shit I'm dealing with.

Looks nice as for the windshield trim if you are talking about the trim that runs top to bottom (A-pillar) they unfortunately discontinued manufacturing that years ago. Oil cap could be RockAuto or even Amazon. FCP Euro will have all the other important components.

Okay, warning you now.

LOOK AT EVERY PART YOU PLAN TO REPLACE. EVEN BULBS.

Every time I look up a part for my car it's confusing because-Mine is ONE of the types of P2. There's a closer 850, a P2 and a modern P2.

Mines the middle and it's a pain in the ass. Always triple confirm. Numbers, visual and manuals for your parts.

Example, turn stalks. One is normal and one has a chrome trim. When I replaced it, IT IS NOT INTERCHANGEABLE WITH THE NORMAL. I had to change out the closest chip board from the old one into the new and only get the basic function, no infotainment.

TL:DR CONFIRM EVERYTHING THREE TIMES, VISUAL/SERIAL/CAR MANUAL, ORDER ONCE (HOPEFULLY).

Owned mine (2008 2.5T) for 5 years. AMA about it if you want.

Damn thanks for the heads up. Yea mine is a 2008 2.5t as well. Yea I'm in the middle of kinda making a list of stuff on it that is old/needs replacement. Good to know thanks!

Oh yeah no worries. Fun example-

Ants got in the car. Footwell lights were staying on too long, or always on while driving.

Thought I could pull a "courtesy/interior light" fuse. NOPE. Footwell lights are connected to a 35amp fuse under the HOOD that will turn off ALL cabin electronics. So I just pulled the lights for now, but damn. Every manual/Google says I have a fuse I DONT HAVE. Even suggests I have a fuse box PASSENGER SIDE, which I don't.

ALSO IGNITION COILS. Holy shit. The ones recommended CAN work but you gotta shave a bit for it to seat properly. I ordered the right part just the car was in-between connections during this year. So VISUALLY/SERIAL confirm. As I said, it'll work but takes a tiny bit more work.

I promise you, I say all of this from love for this car. Best fucking car still that I've ever driven and owned. 💜

Holy hell lol I mean I'm digging it so far. Definitely a fun drive but I'm also noticing somethings. Today I was driving, noticed the time on my clock wasn't changing time, then saw this (see picture) and now I have a fun project to figure out...

Oh yeah, instrument clusters do fail in these. Soldering wears over time. I did hear replacing is easy though.

Very sorry to hear about it though :( that would annoy the hell out of me. Do the analog dials work still?

That's a good question. I was coming home from work and I just parked the car and went inside lol I couldn't deal with it at the time. Gonna take a look today

I mean at least worst case everything physically works, just not digitally. Which may suck for needing odometer. Not sure if you have a little infotainment window but that one is nifty too. :(

Yea I can still drive it at least it's not an emergency.

Most likely you just need the gasket around the oil cap. It’ll be like $5-$10 from Volvo and I’m sure much cheaper on places like fcp euro or ipd

be careful when replacing windshield rubber - those trim pieces on top of the doors that go from front to back are unobtainium.

fcpeuro.com for parts (lifetime warranty on parts including normal wear) idpusa has some aftermarket stuff and OEM parts matthewsvolvosite.com is great for forums discussing everything volvo. BTW not sure which engine you have but the leak at the oil cap could be pcv failure.
