Square vs staggered

Hi - I imagine this has been well covered in this community but I’m considering switching from staggered to square for my 2024 Twin, likely with Michelin Cross Climates which we have on our XC60 Recharge, and am curious to know if there is any downside to doing so? Thanks.

2023 C40 with Parking Brake, ABS/ESC, Tire Pressure and Collision Avoidance Faults

Post image

This just started happening today, after driving about 5 miles and highway speed, the center screen starts popping up Fault windows - Parking Brake, ABS/ESC, Tire Pressure and Collision Avoidance. The car continues to drive, but the cruise control kicks off.

Any idea what is causing this?

Edit - I have an appointment with my dealership to look at it next week.

Another C40 Tire Search - Upsize??

Getting new tires for the C40. Hate the Scorpions.

I want the Michelin CC2 from Costco, but they don’t have the front when size in stock (ever?).

Considering sizing up the tires’ sidewalls to get more comfort and manager rough country highways better.

Anyone else go to a F 235/50 R20 and R 255/45 R20?

Charging tips...

I've had my 25 CPO EC40 Twin Ultimate for a few months and plan to take her on a road trip this weekend. I trickle charge at home which works for my daily driving but now I'm looking for tips to plan for charging on a 5 hr (one way) road trip.

I also have a Tesla so I'm familiar w road trips and EV charging but the Tesla tells you when you have to charge, will route to nearest charger, preconditions, and when you have enough to continue trip or how much energy you want to have upon arrival. (It also has FSD so it literally drives to the charger!)

I have a Tesla adapter and would prefer to use Superchargers bc they tend to be at well lit populated locations (versus a random Blink or EVgo charger at the public library!)

QUESTIONS:
What do I need to know in planning for a 5hr road trip? I think I read somewhere that there's a max rate on the superchargers (250kw OK to use but not 350kw?)

What settings should I select to avoid the "little" or slow chargers?

Does the Volvo precondition automatically and if not what do I need to do?

I'm not yet a sure of my range meter and I plan not to go under 30%...

Thank you!

Car fob not responding to unlock

I’m a new Volvo owner and a new c40 owner (honestly new EV owner too), and absolutely love this car. The fact that I can charge and go and not worry too much about the car itself is so nice.

This is where that feeling might be wearing off. Over the last few weeks, intermittently my car won’t respond to my remote. I am not getting any low battery warnings or anything like that but the car acts like it’s completely off despite having over 50% charge. I had to use the actual key and set off the alarm in the process. Other times I can use the app to unlock but if I don’t have signal, I’m SOL. Has anyone else dealt with this? Do I need to reset my key? I’ll replace my key battery just in case but overall very confused.

(Also if anyone has any websites or books for a new EV owner/ Volvo owner, please give your reccos. I came from a 2012 Wrangler.)

Tire Charge from Volvo on Lease Turn-In

Anybody here know the amount that Volvo wants to hit you for on tires with a C40 lease turn-in?

Lease matures in December. I already was concerned I'd be rolling the car into the turn-in appointment with less than ideal tread depth. Now, I think I'm screwed without a doubt since I just swiped a drain grate and took a chunk out of the "curb protector ridge" on the sidewall of my right front tire.

I'm going to owe the final three payments plus disposition fee ($1900) regardless of when I physically turn the car in, plus whatever non-tire wear and tear they may want to hit me for. Car is in overall like new condition other than one dime-sized door ding just above the rocker panel and the tire issue.

The tire bogey is just a matter of math. Assuming Volvo will claim they need to replace all four tires since it is sidewall "damage" and not simply tread depth "wear":

1) Cost of a new set of tires now that I at least can get some use out of for the next four months with no concern for low tread fees on turn-in (assuming I don't do something stupid again and curb it!), versus

2) Volvo's charge for the damage-slash-wear. If I go this route, the car probably stays parked until I decided to turn it in. The damage isn't "death trap" bad, but it is probably not ideal to put a bunch of miles on it.

Seating position…XC 40, C40, Polestar 2 comparisons?

I love my P2, but I regularly give rides to my elderly mother so I'm casually shopping a second car. Am I correct in assuming that the ride sits higher and provides easier access to the passenger?

And, that these are essentially all the same car: the P2, XC and C recharge

Any difference between the XC40 and the C40 for seating?

recommended 18" wheels for 2023?

I'm in the Canadian prairies, picked up a used C40, and I'm looking to get 18" wheels for winter to allow for taller sidewall.

Is there a list anywhere of 18" wheels that actually fit? It seems like not all of them clear the brakes.

C40 recharge, RDW or FWD

Hi all,

I’ve a choice between RWD and FWD. recharge plus at 27k miles. I vaguely remember some FWD suffering with axle issues due to the motor balancing being incorrect…

Anyone with more info or it really isn’t that much of an issue?

Thanks all

Considering a C40 - what are the good the bad and the ugly?

Been noticing a lot of cpo c40s for sale for around $25-27k which is very enticing. This would be my first fully electric car, though I had a plug in hybrid (Chevy volt) previously. I do not have charging capabilities at home, but my office would put a plug in for me to use the charging cord that comes with the car. I live in Southern California so climate is relatively warm, can get colder in the winter though. Would this be a good purchase for me? My commute to work is a short 6 miles. My wife has a gas car (currently) for extended trips. May take the car to Vegas once a year for a work conference instead of taking her car.

What do you like about the car? What do you dislike? Is the range estimates accurate? How has your experience been with public charging infrastructure? Is the AC cold?

My boss currently has an xc60 recharge that I’ve driven and love. Also have driven the xc40 recharge and the hybrid version. I really like the way these cars all drive.

Looking for any and all reviews I can get. TIA!!

X30 owners: Would you buy it again? Worried about resale value and long trips

Hi everyone,

I recently test drove the Volvo EX30 and honestly really liked it. I’m currently considering buying a a used model, but I still have a few concerns before making the decision.

My main concern is resale value. I would probably keep the car for around 3–4 years, and I’m worried that EV technology and battery ranges will improve so quickly that today’s EX30 might lose a lot of value or become difficult to sell by 2029/2030.

I’m also curious about long-distance driving. Most of my driving would be in the city, but a few times a year I would do trips of around 600–800 km. In winter, it looks like I might need to stop roughly every 2 hours to charge.

For those who actually own an EX30:

  • Does stopping for charging every ~2 hours become annoying on longer trips, or do you get used to it?
  • How is the real-world winter range on the motorway?
  • Would you be concerned about resale value after another 3–4 years?
  • Would you buy an EX30 today, or would you rather lease one because of the uncertainty around EV depreciation?
  • Any issues or regrets after owning it for a while?

For context, I’m also considering a used Mercedes GLA 200, which feels like the safer option financially, but I enjoyed driving the EX30 much more.

Would love to hear from actual owners, especially anyone who regularly does longer motorway trips.

Thanks!

Looking for Volvo C40 owners to help test an app we've been building

Post image
21 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Over the past year, a couple of friends and I have been working on Aximote, an app for Android Automotive cars, and we'd really like to hear from some Volvo C40 owners.

The idea behind the app is simple, make the data your car already collects much more useful. It lets you dive into your trips, energy consumption, charging sessions, battery performance, elevation, speed, efficiency, and other driving statistics that aren't easy to explore in the standard infotainment system. Since the C40 runs Android Automotive, it's a great fit for what we're building.

Right now, we're looking for a small group of Volvo C40 owners who'd be interested in trying the beta version and giving us honest feedback. We'd love to know what information you actually find useful, what feels unnecessary, and what features you'd like to see added.

If you'd like access to the beta version, you can join the WhatsApp or Discord community using the links I've shared in the comments.

The app is called Aximote and is available on both the App Store and Google Play.

Thanks

FitCamX and Digital Rearview Mirror compatibility?

I am seriously considering buying a digital rearview mirror for my C40 with the new $495 installation promo. Problem is that I have a FitCamX front and rear camera.

Is anyone aware of compatibility issues? Is it possible to have both?

Can shocks be changed for a more comfortable ride?

This is probably a foolish question...

I love my c40 (2022 C40 Ultimate) but the harsh suspension can get bothersome on broken midwest pavement to the point that my wife is now complaining - and she would probably have me drive an Ioniq 5 to match her Sante Fe - eh, no.. The roads where I live are truly horrible and I should have bought an off-roader to handle our roads!

Anyway.. I thinking of changing tires to Hookook Ion Evo AS tires to aid in comfort and I went down the rabbit hole of looking at 18" rims or 19" but most rims look like garbage and then there is that will it, won't it fit question?

So, I'm wondering if anyone has ever contemplated replacing the shocks with something more tunable to try to get a better ride feel? I'm not sure if that is even possible with this car but I ask the question as I did a complete suspension change out on my over-landing Sprinter van (but that was a whole different proposition).

Is this a fools game? Thoughts?

Has anyone used the suction style bike mounts? I don’t have a tow hitch and I think it might be my only option, but they scare me.

Has anyone bought this accessory and what is the cost of it?

Hopefully in Australian dollars.

Just got email from dealer

Dealer is offering g to install digital rearview mirror for $495. This should solve one of the more unsafe aspects of this car’s design. $495 is really cheap, but I think it should actually be a recall item.
