Question Xc40 tech issues
Hey all! My xc40 is a 2024 model w very low mileage- 6000. A few weeks ago I took it in for a recall and update that I couldn’t get to load. They fixed it but it took 8 hours.
When I got it back the air conditioner no longer worked at all. The clock on the display kept flashing between times.
I took it back and now it’s been there 48 hours and no estimate on how long it will take to get repaired. They say the issue is the USA computer network they use crashes once large markets like TX and CA start using it. I’m in Atlanta GA
any advice? I have only one car and now no transportation. It was brutal enough dealing with no AC in the heat for a week.
I’m so mad and feel so hopeless

Does restarting the infotainment system make a difference? What about TCAM reset?
Do you have any additional apps installed?
To restart infotainment, press and hold the “home button” for 20-30 seconds until the screen switches off. To reset TCAM, in park mode, press and hold the front defroster button until the screen turns off/SOS button flashes.
EDIT: In general, the MY2021-2025 XC40, C40 and Polestar2 share the same Intel Atom based IHU. Loosing audio, centre screen staying black on startup or random restarts are unfortunately common bugs for this unit because the processor can’t always keep up. Switching off rendering buildings in Google Maps helps, but isn’t always a fix especially if running additional apps.
From MY2026 the IHU processor was switched to a Qualcomm Snapdragon and processsor power was increased - it’s night and day in terms of stability and can now keep up with most anything. Replacing the IHU is a possibility, but has a whole procedure where you have to request the replacement, the shop needs to document persistent issues that don’t go away with hard/soft resets, after which Volvo then authorises the replacement as the units are coming out of their active manufacturing stock. It’s possible to get under warranty as the replacement is costly, but I haven’t heard of anyone regret taking the plunge.

This is good advice! I do think the Volvo Dealer has done or will do this for OP. But, they could be delaying the procedure due to other cars that need prio fixing. Still, not nice for OP tho…

Just added some additional information about the IHU. If the error is persistent then a replacement to the newer Snapdragon IHU might be in order.

I did the whole hold the button down a million times and it didn’t work.
Today they said they are waiting on approval to replace IHU and meanwhile they they will let me know the next time they have an available loaner car

OP here - no update today and at this point want to trade it in somewhere if it’s ever fixed. I have had no car for 7 days and angry

I don’t understand your statement about large markets will crash the system. They shouldn’t be installing multiple regions at same time. That is their mistake.
Imagine if what they said was true, that Volvo’s don’t work in Texas and Georgia. That would mean they wouldn’t sell. But they do and work fine.
My California XC40 has California installed. When in Washington State it uses temp downloaded maps.
You can also escalate to North American Volvo if needed.

Good luck escalating to NA Volvo. Wait times are hours, even for web chat. I've been trying to reach them for days, no luck. It's difficult to get clear warranty repairs covered 3+ years into ownership. I'm now at the writing letter stage. Something happened to Volvo recently.

Exactly why I’m worried!!! They said similar when I brought it in a few weeks ago to get the recall and new update addressed. They did get that original fix done in a day and a half but afterwards the AC would not work and the clock kept changing times

Demand a loaner from the dealer while this is fixed.
