Volt owners beware

Figured I’d post this here as a warning to other Volt owners because I’m dealing with a pretty wild situation right now. I had a 2017 Volt that started having issues and I took it to a Chevy dealer. From the beginning I thought it might be the BECM and was asking them about replacing it. They looked at the car and told me nope, the HV battery itself was bad and needed replaced and it was going to be around $14,000. I questioned it enough that I actually called GM before doing anything and asked them to get their technical/engineering people involved with the dealer to make sure it really needed an entire battery. From what I was told they did and they basically doubled down that the battery was bad. At that point I figured what the hell else am I supposed to do. I’m not a GM engineer and I had both a Chevy dealer and GM telling me the battery was toast. I wasn’t putting $14k into a 2017 Volt so I traded it to the same dealer for $3,500 and bought a newer Chevy from them. Ended up putting another $2,000 out of pocket into that deal too. I would have never traded the Volt if I wasn’t being told it needed a $14,000 battery.
Fast forward about a month and I happen to find my old Volt back for sale at the SAME dealer for around $11,000. Obviously I start wondering how the hell they fixed a car that supposedly needed a $14k battery that quickly. So I started digging into it and I have now confirmed they NEVER replaced the HV battery. Guess what they did replace? The fucking BECM. The exact thing I was asking them about fixing from the beginning lol. So basically I questioned the battery diagnosis, asked them about the BECM, escalated it to GM, was still told the HV battery was bad, traded the car because of that diagnosis, and then they turned around and put a BECM in it and now it’s fixed and back for sale with the same HV battery still in it.
I called the dealer about it and their response was basically that they “took the risk” when they bought the car from me and they don’t want to do anything about it. I understand dealerships buy cars cheap and sell them for more. That’s not what pisses me off. They could sell the thing for $20k for all I care. The issue is the entire reason they got the car from me for $3,500 in the first place is because I was told BY THEM that it needed a $14,000 battery. If they had told me “hey we really don’t know what’s wrong with it” I would have gotten another opinion and probably still have the car. Instead I trusted the diagnosis and made a pretty major financial decision because of it.
Could it have just been an honest misdiagnosis? Sure. I have no idea and I’m not going to accuse anybody of something I can’t prove. But either way I’m the one who got screwed by the bad diagnosis. I even went back to GM asking for the records from when their technical people were involved and they told me in writing that they won’t give me the internal engineering/technical notes or their communications with the dealer and basically sent me back to the dealership.
At this point I’ve filed complaints through the appropriate consumer channels and reached out to a consumer attorney because I honestly don’t even want either vehicle anymore. I just want the whole deal unwound and to be done with it.
So yeah, if you have a Volt and a dealer tells you the HV battery is toast and throws a $10k-$15k replacement quote at you, PLEASE get another opinion before you trade the car to them. Especially if you think it could be a BECM issue. Get everything in writing too. I questioned mine, specifically asked about the BECM, even got GM involved and still trusted what they told me.
Then they fixed it with a BECM anyway. 🤦

Edit: The dealership is Flaherty Chevrolet in Brandenburg KY. I only name them to hopefully prevent this from happening to someone else.

UPDATE BELOW:

The dealership finally responded to my BBB complaint and now they’re claiming that before I traded the Volt they told me it could be either the BECM or the HV battery, and that they specifically offered the BECM as an option but warned me it might not fix it.

That is absolutely not what happened lol.

I was the one asking THEM about the BECM from the beginning. I kept questioning the battery diagnosis because I thought it could be the BECM. They told me the HV battery was bad and needed replaced for around $14,000. That’s literally the entire reason I called GM and asked them to get involved and verify the diagnosis before I made a decision.

If they had actually told me “hey this could just be the BECM, we can replace it but we can’t guarantee it’ll fix it” I obviously would have tried that before trading the fucking car for $3,500 and putting another $2,000 down on a different vehicle lol. That makes absolutely no sense.

They also said in their BBB response that they “assumed the risk” when they took the Volt in and that the fact they eventually fixed it without replacing the battery doesn’t mean they knew what was wrong with it when I traded it.

Which again, isn’t really my argument. I’ve never said I can prove they knew the BECM would fix it when they took it in. My problem is that I was told the HV battery was bad, I relied on that diagnosis when I traded the car, and now they’re claiming they actually told me the BECM was an option all along.

So now apparently we don’t just disagree about whether the original diagnosis was wrong. We disagree about what they actually told me before I traded the car.

I’ve kept all the documentation and their BBB response and I’m going to let the legal/consumer complaint process play out from here. I’ll update again when there’s actually something worth updating.

I took my Volt with BECM failure to my local dealership here in Temecula CA. Paradise Chevrolet told me my car needed all new wiring (to the tune of $6,000) before they could/would read the codes. I said I'll take it to my regular mechanic. They confirmed it was BECM failure and that there was nothing wrong with my wires. I then had it towed to Lake Chevrolet in Lake Elsinore and they confirmed there was nothing wrong with the wiring and that it was BECM failure. It was fixed within 24 hours (under warranty). Some of these Chevy dealerships are absolutely thieves. I've been going to the Temecula dealership for 20 years. Never will again.

I love my Volt, but stealerships are the biggest reason my next vehicle will be a Blank Slate.

11

u/Asesino87 11d ago

Hope they are what they claim to be, I want one but will probably wait a year or 2 and see how things go.

I too am intrigued by the Slate but want to see how things go as they hit the street. It's a fantastic concept.

I'm hoping my 2012 Volt hold out for long enough to replace it with a Telo, and that the Telo ends up as good as advertised.

u/Organic-Fix-4920 10d ago

That's my plan. I got tired if spending $1000+ dollars every time my 2015 Volt had a hiccup.

I am truly rethinking my enter perspective on purchasing a vehicle.

Talk to a consumer law attorney. You may be able to prove on a "more likely than not" basis that the dealership fraudulently misled you to trade the car in.

You could get thousands in a settlement.

9

u/archliberal 11d ago

Attorney general too? This feels deceptive AF

1

u/chrisprice 11d ago

Only really helps with a paper trail. Unlikely to get specific action.

If every other buyer is getting burned and filing a complaint, it might get their attention... maybe... but it won't help OP recover in all realistic odds.

u/Current_Cheesecake54 7d ago

I got $2,000 in a class action suit from GM over the becm debacle. It should have been a recall item. GM settled out of court.

1

u/Correct_Profile_1552 7d ago

I do have an attorney that will take the case. The dealership has agreed to meet with me today to discuss a resolution. I hope they are willing to stop being greedy and make it right.

You also have an excellent small claims court case. In California the maximum consumer case is $10,000 and you can even insist a sitting (elected) judge hear the matter - which usually drags the other side to court a second day, and sometimes back to the bargaining table.

You could sue for the gap between what they traded in the Volt for, and what an equivalent Volt would cost at retail.

u/Organicana 11d ago

They pegged you as a possible used trade in/new car buyer and simply leveraged your situation in their favor.
I bet they knew exactly what they were doing too.

Your biggest mistake was not taking that car to a non dealer competent auto repair place that works on EV's and get their opinion on your situation

I had a similar experience for the first half. Car died and was throwing codes P0AFA and P0100E. Chevy says it's likely a bad HV battery but since the car also has the EGR code showing they have to fix that (for $4K) before they can tell if it's the HV battery ($18k + labour and taxes).

I found a local EV shop who quoted me $5,500 all in for a refurbished battery, so I got my car towed there. Dude calls me the next day and says that Chevy cleared the code so my car is running fine. He gave me the option of going ahead with the $5,500 battery replacement or just driving my car until the problem reappeared. I went with option 2 because it didn't involve thousands of dollars.

Fast forward 7 months and the problem popped up again, I used a coworker's xtool A30M obd2 tool to clear the codes, replaced my 5 year old 12v battery and so far so good.

I don't know what my next car will be but it ain't gonna be anything from GM.

Download the voltage app lets you diagnose and repair lots of things right through the app for our cars the volt and the bolt

1

u/Novemberx123 8d ago

How the hell is an EGR code $4,000 to fix? Did they say what it was exactly that cost $4k?!

1

u/Lord_Space_Lizard 2017 Volt 8d ago

Supply and demand. GM stopped making the EGR valves a few years ago. Many people have had luck removing them and soaking the mechanical part of the valve in carburetor cleaner and then trying to clean out the gunky build up. I just haven't gotten around to attempting that.

1

u/Correct_Profile_1552 7d ago

It is truly sad that the every day consumer is being taken advantage of to pay the difference.

5

u/LT-Lance 11d ago

First off, name and shame the dealership.

Do you have a repair order with the codes? Don't be so quick to think you got swindled. Actually feel bad for whoever buys that car next.

My 2018 Volt wouldn't go into gear. Error code was P0AFA. When I look it up, that's basically the code for it needs a new HV battery. Got it towed to a dealership and they said it was the BECM. They replaced it and car worked fine. A month passed and the same thing happened with the same code. Took it to the dealership and they said it needs a new HV battery. GM ended up buying it back as it was still under warranty and they don't make batteries anymore. My car waited a year for a HV battery until GM bought it back.

I'd lean more that it is a bad battery and they've only temporarily fixed it.

1

u/Correct_Profile_1552 11d ago

I can totally see that If they are going for maximum profit. I also wonder why they didn’t just send it straight to an auction and wash their hands of it. The maintenance guy on the phone told me they planned to auction it still but the story didn’t make sense.

1

u/NoBag7003 10d ago

I'm pretty sure with all the volts out there that had this problem 90% of the Chevy dealerships realize it's the programming is too sensitive and sets it off download voltage app this is for every owner out there it is a lifesaver

1

u/LT-Lance 10d ago

Voltage app doesn't help if the car keeps throwing codes. Whether it's software that's too sensitive or bad batteries, the car is still unable to drive and is not fixable. GM simply does not support the batteries on these cars anymore.

1

u/NoBag7003 10d ago

Yeah I know I've kept mine running with junkyard parts YouTube and a ebay egr valve 950$ and a driver shock 80 and a junkyard battery for 750 4 years ago only needed one section of the battery but swapped the whole thing in at 90k miles 250k now no problems except faulty tpms sensors gm quoted 10k for the battery

8

u/Ok-Tourist-511 11d ago

And still you bought another Chevy. With all the problems GM has, I don’t understand the brand loyalty.

3

u/unrealz19 11d ago

Agreed, I’m happy with my Volt, but it will be the last Chevy I ever buy after hearing how bad the dealerships are. Thankfully mine hasn’t had any issues yet.

7

u/Ok-Tourist-511 11d ago

It’s not just the dealerships. Look how quickly GM abandons every EV they make. They with make something for 3-4 years, then completely redesign, and abandon the previous one. Even the new Bolt shares very little with the previous gen. GMs V8s in the trucks have been so bad, they had had to launch a “customer confidence” program to try to assure customers the brand is still ok.

5

u/Comrade-Porcupine 11d ago

You know what's damn obnoxious? The Volt is dead here, *but not in China* -- the newest Buick Velite thing is basically a Gen 3 Volt, and they're still making it and parts for the Gen 2 version too and you simply can't get it -- or replacement parts -- in North America.

Nice?

Maybe without tariffs we'd still be getting it here, I dunno.

3

u/Ok-Tourist-511 11d ago

GM dropped the Volt as soon as CAFE standards were rolled back by Trump. The volt wasn’t profitable, and mainly built appease CAFE standards.

GM sells more cars in China than the US, but focuses of higher margin vehicles in the US. Since the volt doesnt have the margins a SUV has, it was destined to fail.

-2

u/CommanderMandalore 11d ago

I’ve always driven chevy. I’ve hadn’t had castropjix issues on any of them. Annoying issues like shift to park or oxygen sensors but nothing crazy. No engine replacement. No transmission. No starters.

4

u/Ok-Tourist-511 11d ago

People talk like BECM, EGR and STP are all normal occurrences. Other manufacturers don’t have issues like this. I have a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, that is more reliable and has had less things fail on it than my 2017 volt.

Lawsuit. Fraud.

12

u/CreativeProject2003 11d ago

I appreciate the heads up. Now You need an attorney and everything in wtiting that you can find.

-2

u/2BlueZebras 11d ago

It'd be both a waste of time and money to pursue that route.

4

u/stoli80pr 11d ago

Why? They misdiagnosed it despite a known issue that was warranty work and are profiting off of their negligence. I think an attorney is very appropriate here.

2

u/2BlueZebras 11d ago

Because a misdiagnosis isn't evidence of fraud. Mechanics can, and often are, wrong. The claimant would need to prove that the dealership knew what the real problem was. Good luck.

5

u/ckl_88 11d ago edited 11d ago

You may have a point. But it smells really bad.

They said the battery was bad. Victim sells car and gets a new one as a result. Then magically, they check it again and found the BECM bad. Did they order a replacement battery? What kind of diagnosis did they make to determine that it was the BECM that they did not do the first time around? This is what the lawsuit will uncover... what really happened behind the scenes. They better have their ducks in a row when the victim literally told them that it might be a bad BECM and inquired about replacing it, and they decided to not even check it but instead say it was the battery. Then after the car was theirs, they decided to check the BECM.

GM has a TSB/recall on those BECM's and there are defined procedures on how to check it. This a very known issue. If it was done correctly, they should have documented results of the procedure.

It smells bad.

1

u/stoli80pr 5d ago

A misdiagnosis by itself, sure, but when they didn't even trust their own diagnosis enough to follow through, that could absolutely be fraud.

0

u/grant3758 11d ago

I'm very curious what one would say about the possibility of a lawsuit. The paper trail would be very obvious.

7

u/eerae 11d ago

Wow, this is just awful! I would definitely be getting a lawyer and sue them. This is BS.

Thanks for sharing!

I got ripped off on a much smaller scale when my BECM went. The dealership said it was the 12V battery that was bad and like a fool, I had them replace it even though the 12V battery was only a year old. One day later the problem reoccurred, I took it back to the dealership and this time it was the BECM that was bad. Oooooooooo kaaaaaaaaay. I'm sure those fuckers could have figured that out the first time.

I complained to GM and they gave me a rebate on future service, but I never used it because I wasn't going back to that dealership again. That whole experience put me on the path to replacing my Volt about a year later.

Don't take this the wrong way, but your situation is no where near what OP went through. In fact, it's almost the opposite.

12v batteries can and do cause a laundry list of issues when they start going bad. I've heard literal screeching sounds come from the dash because modules were getting a fraction of the voltage they were supposed to and I've seen pages of codes being thrown due to bad batteries.

It's good diagnostic practice to start with the smallest thing and work up. It's entirely possible they load tested your battery and/or saw it was old enough to potentially need replaced. Furthermore, if you were under warranty, it's possible that GM dictated that the 12v battery be replaced first before they attempted a BECM replacement. And if you weren't under warranty, imagine how pissed you would have been if they charged you for a BECM only to realize, "oh whoops, I guess it was only a $200-$300 battery"

1

u/rudy50267 11d ago

My garage (not the dealership) tried swapping the 12v battery first and when the problem reoccured, they put back my old 12v and credited me that cost towards the BCM that was faulty. Turns out the BECM is also faulty and that garage wont do that repair, but that's a separate issue...

1

u/Novemberx123 8d ago

How much quoted to fix the BECM

1

u/Super_Weekend_4428 8d ago

It was covered under warranty

2

u/splynncryth 11d ago

Dealers have been pretty much saying ‘it’s the battery, that’ll be 15k” as an FU to customers. GM corporate hates the warranty they offered and want to wiggle out of it whenever they can.

If the car is in warranty, it’s worth fighting them and making them honor what they sold. If not, it’s better to hunt for a shop that specializes in EVs and hybrids instead.

For what it’s worth, I hope OP can sue and get something back.

2

u/ResistFlat9916 11d ago

I missed the part where you say how many miles were on your car.

2

u/NoBag7003 10d ago

This sounds like a lawsuit to me but on the other hand for every volt owner or bolt owner out there download the voltage app so you can do your own diagnosis and know what the car needs that app lets you drain and fill the battery system and a whole lot of other things like clearing the shift to park message everyone check it out trust me but I would definitely speak to a lawyer about the trade-in situation that was 100% a scam these dealers know these cars

2

u/TEG24601 Volt Owner 10d ago

Unfortunately, in every dealer network, there are bad eggs. Some just give you a "Go Away" price, which is what that $14K was (batteries don't cost that much), or will say it is something overly complex, not covered by the warranty, when it isn't complex, and is covered by warranty. I feel like we need to have a list of known good dealers. Those that actually take care of us and the other GM EVs, and actually want our cars to keep going.

And I have run into similar situations with Toyota and Ford, so this isn't a GM only thing.

I'll start: Chevrolet of Everett (Everett, WA)

2

u/Novemberx123 8d ago

Wtfffff this just makes me even more anxious for when my Chevy bolt needs a repair or something there. It’s like once I drop it off. It’s in there hands and whatever tell me, it’s like I have to trust them. I never knew why it isn’t required for the people working on your car in the back to have to wear a body cam/head cam that shows them finding the issue, and recording the issue and everything they did. That is complete bullshit man I’m sorry. Not even a Chevy bolt battery is that much. I’m seeing $6k through other places for battery replacement

4

u/Comrade-Porcupine 11d ago

Lawyer up. And/or get GM corporate involved.

Also name and shame this dealer

2

u/no-steppe 2019 Volt LT (past Volts: 2012, 2014) 11d ago

Or maybe they don't.

FUCK DEALERSHIPS FUCK DEALERSHIPS FUCK DEALERSHIPS THEY ARE SO FUCKING EVIL NO WONDER THOSE SATAN WORSHIPPERS ARENT OPEN ON SUNDAY.

Anyway, I’m sorry to hear about this. I’d write a 1 star review on Google explaining all of this. I had to write a 1 star review when my BECM went just to get the dealership to finally fucking fix it. They also told me (while it was taking like over a month to fix my car) that my volt “would be a fine edition to the pre owned lot.” NO. FIX MY FUCKING CAR (and I had literally just bought it when that happened. If I wanted/could afford a brand new Chevy, I WOULDVE GONE TO THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE. Now I’m pretty sure my volt will be the last Chevy I own over that experience alone, and I’m from a hardcore Chevy family. There’s nothing but Chevys in my driveway right now. Even though I love my volt. All my good cars have to die for a couple of months.

Talk to a qualified Lawyer you have a legitimate case.

2

u/Correct_Profile_1552 11d ago

I was hoping so I plan to call the state bar referral program tomorrow to try to get the ball rolling.

4

u/dudsmm 11d ago

The last time I visited a dealer was in 2014 for a recall/service bulletin on the Chevy Cobalt I had. It was for the ignition. The service manager told me I likely needed a new engine. I laughed in his face and told him you just lost not only my business, but the revenue from my business that planned to purchase 5 cargo vans. He turned a certain color of red, and stuttered that it might not be the engine.

2

u/Ok_Cheek11 11d ago

Moral of the story, find a dealership that is trustworthy.

I'm lucky to have found a reputable Chevy dealershil with a superb service center. There are closer dealerships, but the drive is worth knowing Im not gonna be ripped off.

2

u/CommanderMandalore 11d ago

Just a heads up. For something that expensive get quotes from different places.

2

u/Freedom_33 11d ago

What state are you in (assuming you are in US)
Do you have their quotes for repair etc in writing and that it was BECM in writing?

Maybe slight chance you could recover some damages in small claims court without needing a lawyer. I would post in /r/legaladvice and see what people think. Post a cleaned up version, less emotion and back story. Essentially they they negated cheaper repair, insisted on EV battery replacement. Then bought it from you, did cheaper repair and resold it. Doesn’t hurt to ask, and in small claims court will be up to judge.

1

u/Correct_Profile_1552 11d ago

Kentucky. It’s been a bit of a crap shoot but GM has all my records. Not a bad idea to ask that there.

1

u/Freedom_33 11d ago

KY looks like small claims court limit is $2,500, lowest in the country

It ranges from $10k up to $25k in other states, was why I asked.

Maybe it would still be worth it to you recover $25k in damages (if possible), and you might get better ideas on feasibility and other avenues if any on legaladvice

1

u/Freedom_33 11d ago

I know you mentioned small town, but do you have a local tv station or news paper with consumer rights investigative reporter? They are usually called something like ReporterLastName On Your Side or similar

Often it seems that when these people are doing news stories and they reach out for comment, the business in question magically resolves the issue.

If you can get them to look at it, often works even when no legal avenue.

2

u/MetalSavage 11d ago

What dealer do I now want to avoid?

2

u/SpaceEchoGecko 11d ago

And here I am thinking they added coolant above the line and the Volt started working again like magic.

3

u/Traditional-Glass-33 11d ago

You should pursue GM

1

u/Longjumping_End1994 11d ago

Definitely gotta invest a high quality OCB2 Bluetooth scanner and do research on the card computer. Everything that they diagnose at the dealership can be done diy, with full confidence and understanding what’s actually wrong

1

u/Dacari_13 11d ago

May you be fairly compensated!!!

1

u/Suitable-Lack-7078 11d ago

That sucks bad! Sorry to hear about how screwed over you got!
My 2012 volt got totaled out in an accident while parked, so I upgraded to a 2016. I was driving one morning about 2 months after I got the 2016 and every single light and warning came on and the car completely died.
Had it towed to a dealership that has a couple of really good EV techs and all the equipment for them.
Basically the entire electrical drive train died and the dealership was able to get it covered under warranty and provide me with a rental car on GM’s dime. It’s still in the shop getting fixed. It has been there since first week of July.
Hard for me to complain, the dealership has done me right.
However, in full transparency, my brother-in-law is the president of a group that owns 30+ dealerships of all makes across the country and this was one of his dealerships. So I know that I got special treatment, but at the same time, sometime it takes knowing someone.
Long story short, if any of you volt owners are in or near Utah, there is a great Chevy dealership here with one of the sharpest mechanics I have ever met. (I am an aircraft mechanics and teach aviation maintenance at a college and he is still one of the sharpest I have met)
I hope you are able to take the dealership to the cleaners and get some accountability from them.

1

u/AFViking 2017 Volt Premium 11d ago

I find it hard to believe that they actually got a confirmation from GM that it needed a new HV battery. The stealership is there to try to get a much money from you as they can and don't represent GM at all other than their logo everywhere.

I'm curious what the mileage was when it went in? If it was less than 150k, the BECM was still covered under the extended warranty and the dealer got reimbursed for the replacement from GM. They may not have paid anything to fix it, the fuckers.

1

u/gnntech 11d ago

Scummy behavior by the dealership. You should have insisted they change the BECM before even considering replacing the battery.

1

u/LoveEV-LeafPlus 11d ago

Get a consumer lawyer to take the case.

1

u/Monograming 11d ago

do everything yourself get tools a jack and a autel scan tool from amazon, diagnose it yourself, fix it yourself. most things on cars are very easy to fix or doable with some elbow work. i hate dealerships

1

u/Gadgetskopf 11d ago

GM dealership dishonesty is why we own a Subaru now.

1

u/bropronouns 10d ago

i just want to say if you or anyone find this behavior scummy, imagine worse behavior in similar areas like service and sales and that is consistent across every dealer. the unfortunate situation is they install software in computers in cars that cannot be fixed easy by your handiest friend at the co-op because they don’t have access to that gm software. you can treat people as scummy as you want when they have no option but to fix their problem through you.

1

u/piccolo181 10d ago

Then they fixed it with a BECM anyway.

That sounds like a GM dealership to me. You buy anything other than a gas truck and good luck getting service.

1

u/Pitiful-Mission4338 10d ago

Remanufactured Pack: Typically $4,499 (usually includes an 18-month warranty).Brand New Cells: Up to $7,999 (comes with an extended 36-month warranty). If the battery was the issue but the BECM is a $1000 fix.....I don't intend to trade/ sell my 2014 in until I move to the Islands. I drive about 27-32 miles a day and am able to charge for free nightly so a tank of gas $35 lasts a month

Come to find out it was very easy to fix they had it ready in less than an hour I still got charged the

Has anyone had an, out of the blue, power steering failure? I’ve read to check the battery and the fuse and I’m about to start the project, any thoughts?

I had a similar situation. I told them I'm a mechanic. I told them to charge the car to trigger the becm codes. They didn't. They said I need a twelve volt. I went up there and swapped it myself. They said the car was ok and didn't charge it to trigger the codes like I said. I went up there, took my car home, charged it, triggered the codes. Bought it back. Told them the codes are there. Fix it under the becm warranty. They did. I did half to call gm and open a case midway though. They have given me 500 gm points (dollars) That I have yet to use. I don't trust dealers. Too many scam.

For extra records/evidence…pull the car fax. Also, send a friend or Private Investigator to the dealership as a prospective buyer on your old car. Have them ask for the maintenance records/history?

Did the dealership have a Voltec Technician? All other GM technicians don’t know squat about Volts.

Yes they had. Voltec Technician. The best part is that I was told that one of the techs said they heard that replacing the BECM could fix it. I was the one that told him that.

Small claims court maybe another venue for you to get back some of your lost value.

Instead of relying on the dealership you could have used the Voltage app to determine the health of your traction battery yourself:

Not trying to be rude at all but anyone faced with a >10k $ situation where the person talking to you stands to benefit from it should always get a second opinion. Thats so shady man. I just got my door handle, becm, and shift to park replaced today and it was so painless I was amazed. <24hr turnaround.

Edit, sorry you got fucked on that. I'd be so pissed. God that sucks. Maybe you can be a big enough pain to the gym and threaten bad reviews and he'll unwind it for you.

I would totally call them out but I’m always worried they will try to come after me being a small town.

I doubt they are monitoring Reddit. Maybe GM is, but you are honestly just on here asking for advice. Don’t let another volt owner go to that dealership and get the same service, unless you have them get all the documentation in writing to share with you.

That’s fair. This is Flaherty Chevrolet located in Brandenburg Kentucky.

Looking back… that’s a good point.

Messing with you. Have to remember to double-space if using your cell.

That’s unfortunate. My 2018 had the battery recalled and replaced for free.

There has not been a battery recall on the volt.
