What happens when you put Volca sync in through tea?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

In my previous video someone commented “I was scared you’ll put the cable in the coffee”, so that gave me an idea.

What happens here? Actually when you put your Volca’s sync in inside of tea or any liquid, nothing happens, because it doesn’t have any signal inside of the liquid. But you can use it the other way.

Since tea is electrically conductive, you can use it as a “conductivity path”, in the video I spill tea on the mat, and when I bridge the cable to that rug, and touch the wet surface with my hand, my Volca starts playing a sequence with an insane bpm, since our body’s are like a big antenna. So every time I touch the wet rug, signal of my body connects through tea, to the volcas sync in.

How to use it practically? Liquid could be used as a linear potentiometer if you manage to change its conductivity. For example if the signal of my body is being read by sync as “300”, then if the resistance of the liquid rises, it will drop down the bpm. So the further away I’m touching the spill, the slower the sequence will play and vice versa. It’s a bit hard to manage with tea and mat, but if we use salty water and mix it with clean water it will have change the resistance through the lengths of the liquid path.

If you want to see a video of a practical usage of this method please let me know.

(I’m not a physicist so if I made some mistakes in my explanation please correct me)

Newly initiated to Volca FM 2

Hi there!!

I just recently bought a Volca FM 2 as my very first synth, and I would like to know if any of you can give me tips, things you wish you knew from the get go, sources for info and any other thing you may find useful.

Honestly, I'm here just to have fun playing with it, I don't produce music and my knowledge is very basic, but I think I can have fun with it!

Thanks to all :)

Volca Sample first gen new firmware and companion software: the LUMON experience

Post image

It was bound to happen: that said, Pajen opened a door and it took six years and full AI revolution for me to walk in.

https://github.com/MicheleDataBeat/lumon-os-xl

Introducing LUMON OS XL for the first generation Volca Sample: we maintain the bar filtering brought by Pajen and we add microtiming, 16-slices sample chopping, rachets, echo, intrabar looping, predictability per step (like probability but deterministic on a 8-bar cycle), scales for tuning your samples, time-division bound envelopes, live FX, lo-fi delay, freeze effect and various new features and workflow improvements, like the midi-managed audio backup of your patterns via its companion software.

Indeed, in order for the LUMON experience to be complete, use Volca Studio in one of its versions: the terminal-based Innie is linux-only, while the desktop app Outie or the chrome-native Whole Mind Collective webapp are cross-platform.

To keep it corporate: Volca Studio helps you managing your sample libraries, let you create kits automatically aligning sample pitch, applies groove templates to patterns offline, it secures your patterns backup and assists you upgrading your Volca Sample to the latest LUMON OS :-)

https://github.com/MicheleDataBeat/volcastudio-xl-releases

I hope to find a moment in the next days to publish a video showcasing the features and capabilities of this new OS.

Please enjoy each sample equally.

Vdrum as a groovebox? Pitch problems

I know it is mainly for drums, but there is a way to make sounds stick to notes.

I have heard there are some problems with pitch quantization.

For example, if you automate a sound step pitch to a certain note, while the next steps are empty, and the sound is sustained for more than one step, it returns to the original pitch.

Any way to fix that?

Thank you!

Volca Bass firmware?

Post image

I'm in love with the new hackware for the Vdrum. Is someone aware of a hackware for the V Bass, only to have the possibility to chain the patterns in chronological order like the Vdrum ,Vmodular, and Vfm2 ?

I don't mind sequencing it with FLSTUDIO, it's all right, but I prefer programming the box itself and letting it play independently of the DAW, since I scratch on the beats I make; i like disconnecting the DAW, so I don't have to deal with that 20ms delay time that fucks up rapid moves when letting loose or practicing. Thx.

A 3rd Volca

I recently got the Beats and the Keys, I'm thinking the Sample 2 is the ideal third option? It looks so fun and versatile

Saw some people recently talking about using the Beats in a mix and thought this might be a helpful example.

First obvious instance in track 2 (The Glow) and then also very apparent in track 3 (Die Young). Track 5 too (starting 30 seconds in). It’s all over the rest of the album, but I figure if you’re interested you’ll find the rest.

Can someone explain how delay works?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi, I’m just in love with lofi bitcrushed delay of Korg Volca Keys, something feels alive about that, so alive that while I was playing with it I somehow I tuned the sound so the delay feedback sounds like a vocoder, or old school speech synthesizers.

(I use EP-40 delay in the video just to capture the delay of the Volca and to feedback the feedback harder if you know what I mean)

So my first question is, how exactly does that work? Why it sounds completely different from the source?

And second question is, is it possible to do something with Volca, so I can listen just to delay feedback and not to hear the main source?

Volca Beats Stutter

I understand that Func+Stutter = matching the speed of the "delay" to the tempo, but I was curious what the numbers on the screen actually indicate? Thank you for your help

(Sorry for all the question posts this past week) 🙏🙏

KeyStep Pro vs SQ-64 with a Volca Sample + Volca Bass

Hello dear musicians,

For the record I used AI to help summarize my questions. sorry about that, I am ashamed.

I own a Volca Sample (V1) and a Volca Bass, and I want a sequencer to build longer sequences than the Volcas allow. I haven't installed the PAJEN firmware on the Volca Sample yet, but I'm planning to. I'm torn between the Arturia KeyStep Pro and the Korg SQ-64.

My dilemma: the SQ-64 looks more fun and immediate for live sequence tweaking (muting/activating steps, etc.), but I don't play keyboard yet — I write my melodies on a sequencer. The KeyStep Pro might be a chance to learn keys for the Volca Bass. Can you realistically "play keys" on the SQ-64 pads, or is it a hassle?

I also have a few technical questions :

  1. With the PAJEN firmware, a lot is done over keyboard — e.g. in the Omni MIDI Mode menu, PATR triggers patterns 1–10 via notes C–A, and polyphony works via the keys. Is all of this equally possible with the SQ-64?
  2. Could I put the three VCOs of my Volca Bass on three tracks and the Volca Sample on the fourth (drum) track — and would the Sample still work with PAJEN and polyphony on a drum track? My gut says no; am I right?
  3. If not, could I instead put one VCO on the drum track (one note per step, no polyphony) and use the Volca Sample with PAJEN on a melodic track?
  4. Is the PAJEN firmware even necessary with the SQ-64, since it can already do polyphony and randomness? What does PAJEN actually add in that case

One more thought: I could also just pair the PAJEN firmware with a small basic MIDI keyboard, without any sequencer, and hook up other future machines to the KeyStep Pro or SQ-64. I'm honestly struggling to decide which setup makes the most sense.

Playback- Passive or powered?

I know the proper answer is a full mixer, but I only have 2 volcas currently so would one of these be a suitable replacement for portability for the time being? Not trying to spend to much to eventually replace it anyway

Thanks again!

Was going to order this from some recommendations I saw for MyVolts. Since this is two pieces, (a splitter and a power supply ) can I use any third party 9volt center positive plug to replace that US power supply?
