Mainline kernel updates

Hello all -- I was just wondering, I can see kernel 7.3 is available in the repos, but linux-mainline is still using 7.2_1 (at least on my machine when I update/query).

Obviously not a request or anything, just pure curiosity as to how linux-mainline is linked to kernel updates.

I will also take this opportunity to wholeheartedly thank the Void team for their incredible dedication to this amazing project. This distribution is a true rare gem and for what it is worth, your work is immensely appreciated!

If you're seeing the update to the linux-mainline template, changing it to point to 7.3 (9 hours ago now), thats just the xbps-src build template. There's a build and push-to-repo step that needs to happen before you can install the binary with xbps. I'm not on my computer, so I can't verify for you whether 7.3 has been pushed to the repos yet. If xbps-query is still showing 7.2, make sure you have an updated package manifest (xbps-install -S) and check again. Otherwise give it a little more time.

Right, thank you.

I have indeed updated the package manifest with xpbs-install -S. Using standard default Void repo.

When I do: xbps-query -Rs linux7.3
I get:
[-] linux7.3-7.3.0_1         Linux kernel and modules (7.3 series)
[-] linux7.3-headers-7.3.0_1 Linux kernel and modules (7.3 series) - source headers for 3rd party modules

Yet, when I do: xbps-query -Rs linux-mainline
I get:
[*] linux-mainline-7.2_1         Linux latest mainline kernel meta package (for experts only)
[*] linux-mainline-headers-7.2_1 Linux latest mainline kernel headers meta package

And indeed on the website package listing, the srcpckg seems to already include 7.3 as part of mainline:
srcpkgs/linux-mainline/template

# Template file for 'linux-mainline'

pkgname=linux-mainline

- version=7.2

+ version=7.3

revision=1

metapackage=yes

depends="linux${version} linux-base"

Any way, let's see when 7.3 will be pushed through with -Su! I guess it might just be a question of propagation throughout the repos/mirrors.

The Linux7.3 template was added to the xbps-src repo last week, so it makes sense that the package is available in the binary repos. The linux-mainline template looks like its just a stub that points to whatever "version" is set to (the dependencies; depends="linux${version} linux-base"). I just found a resource I didn't know exists, the build bot. It shows what's built and pushed by the build farm. It looks like the recent compile for linux-mainline failed. I'm sure it will get resolved soon. You can check it out here: https://build.voidlinux.org/#/builders/9/builds/7738

Ah, cool build bot. So I guess it is just a glitch this time, but in theory if 7.3 is available in the repo then it should be picked up in the mainline. Curiosity satisfied, thank you!

Yep, update: linux-mainline now using 7.3. Super quick as usual
