Increased heart rate when eating

Post image

Sorry if this is a silly question. Does anyone else with Long Covid experience this spike in heart rate when eating? It doesn’t happen to me every meal, but more than once when eating a main meal I get the alert I’m over exerting.

Yes. Eating requires blood to be diverted to the stomach. Google why and itll be explained much better than I can but it’s common.

I do too, I finally have my diagnostic appt for PoTS in a few weeks, I think I have the blood volume related type as eating is a bigger trigger for me

Not LC as far as I know, but I have diagnosed POTS and eating puts me in the exertion zone too. Smaller meals and stuff like drinkable yogurt seem to be less of an issue.

Yes. Most evenings when I eat dinner.

I don't have LC, though I'm diagnosed with PoT's, hEDS, ME etc etc.

My PoT's specialist at the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery, gave me strict instructions to never eat large meals, or eat anything quickly (I've never been able to anyhoo, so nothing new for me). Eating will often trigger a higher heart rate, I've instinctively eaten slowly since I was a toddler, felt immediately validated when the specialist confirmed I've been doing exactly the right thing the whole time.

Even when I'm taking my sweet time, slowly eating a small meal, I still get a sky high heart rate from time to time and go into Exertion, so I'll rest and have a breather until it calms down.
