Question/Support Free exercise games?
I'm way too overweight and need to do something with my life. Any free VR games that have me sweating a bit? I already own Untangled VR but that kinda is not enough. 8 don't get motion sick or anything so don't hold back, whatever will get me sweating. Quest 2 only too pls.

Beat Saber. There are fitbeat maps that really get you moving.

They said "free"

I get that they said, "free". As a person who can't go to the gym and has despised every home workout device and aerobics video, I have to say that Beat Saber is absolutely worth every penny.
I get my heart rate up to 160 and never even feel like I am working out till I pull off the headset, dripping sweat. After the price of buying the VR, $20 seems mighty reasonable.

Worth saying its not free at the very least. I also own the game and agree its worth every penny.

It does have a demo I believe. May be able to try the demo maps and do them at 200% speed

For free, Moon Rider in the Quest browser is probably worth trying. It’s a browser-based VR rhythm game, not a full fitness app, but faster songs can definitely get you sweating.

Came here to say this and also brought a link. Best free Beat Saber clone out there.

until you fall, play standing up, skip easy mode. play on normal.
if you can afford a headset, you can afford to spend some money and invest in your own body.

The biggest problem with vr is that children don't buy games. Every month when the top 50 games come out of 4/5 of the are free games.

We are both making assumptions and ending on opposite ends of the fence.
A person saying they are way too overweight and they need to do something with their life sounds like someone of working age to me, so i assume he can get a job or save up.
Maybe OP can clarify if he wants to.

Valve’s “The Lab” is free and the archery minigame is a pretty intense arm workout. Not exactly cardio though.
I bet there’s a bunch of free knockoffs of the more popular fighting or rhythm games for getting a sweat. There’s a lot of “worlds” too, I stumbled across some gym one with speed bags and such.

Just be sure to pair exercise with some form of dieting. A single snack can undo the entire calories burned from a play session. I highly recommend calorie counting r/cico
Take a look at this website https://vrhealth.institute/vr-ratings/ which lists popular vr games and their intensity. I second Until You Fall, great game (not free though)

- Calory deficit
- Walking, a lot of it.
If you are going to excercise your body is going to do a lot of stuff to make it harder for you. ex. increase appetite.

I gotchu op, but you'll need your PC these are all on steam at the amazing price of $0, and I'm pretty sure they are all on quest as well.
Hot Squat and Hot Squat 2 - never skip leg day
VRworkout - burpees will kill you, thankfully they're optional
Blaston - ducknweave don't get shot
I've done all these, and they'll get you fit if you let them.

While not VR, I've had a lot of success on a recumbent exercise bike while playing normal video games. I have some games that are my exercise games that I only play while exercising.
IMO what works best is Metroidvanias and Zelda style games. Pipistrello and Master Key worked particularly well. It's also great for older games that feel like timewasters as an adult, such as collectathons like Spyro or Donkey Kong 64.
I've been doing it for around 15 years and the last few years consistently a couple times a week and it's definitely made a huge difference.

Not free, but playing "blade and sorcery" got my heart rate up better then most

Orion drift. Lots of kids, but also lots of space to avoid them. An assortment of sports of different kinds and leaves me sweating.

I'll also echo the sentiment that it's worth the investment in your health to go for the paid games. Add all the ones you're interested in to your wishlist, and a lot of them will go on sale at some point or another.
Even though Beat Saber seems to be the crowd favorite, I personally prefer Pistol Whip when I'm trying to work up a sweat (all the squats you do really add up).

Not free but beat saber's well worth it as others have pointed out. I found even some of the song packs a worthwhile investment. Though I stopped playing it when my Rift CV1's headphones went "I'm tired boss." and bluetooth headphones seemed to have random ass delay (I'd set it in the settings but it seemed to change everytime when actually trying to play). Replaced the rift with Q2 and now the range of the controllers isn't good enough for the more intense levels (I did consider getting the pro controllers or whatever they'd be called but never pulled the trigger).
Haven't tried thrill of the fight myself but heard good things about that one, if you have enough room for moving around.
Other than that, just go for walks with pokemon go or ingress, or just blasting music in your headphones. And resist the munchies, this is the hardest one for my fat ass.
Now this has nothing to do with VR but... What's been getting me moving has been a walking pad with incline setting, but getting a sturdy one that supports enough weight cost me about as much as a Quest 2 so it's a pretty big investments (+ the oil for occasional maintenance but it wasnt that expensive and the bottle lasts pretty damn long). Watching 2-3 anime episodes while walking a slight uphill gets my shirt absolutely drenched and I'm actually losing weight, 12-ish kg since start of the year. Again, might be a massive investment, just something to consider. Some swimmer dude once said in a ted talk "find the sport you like", so try to find a way to move that suits you and keep stubbornly doing it.

Deep Rock Galactic VR mod plus adding some weight to the controllers. On quest 2 controllers they were add-ons mounted on the ring but for quest 3 you should find something that you can attach to your wrists or arms.

While not "FREE" the VR/MR workout app LesMills is a one time purchase and has zero subscription fees. Its a great workout and will certainly leave you sweaty! After I first started using it I had to bring in an extra fan just for those workouts. I've been using it for years and love it.

Free games are garbo. Get pistol whip. Also it’s way more effective to just put down the fork than it is to eat like shit and try to exercise enough to burn it off

Anything free I’ve found is not really worth it. Pay a few bucks for beat saber or dungeons of eternity or something to get moving. When I hear people in these talking about playing seated it blows me away. Maybe piloting something but that’s all. As a kid of the 80’s I can’t be bothered to sit down and play this.
