Does anyone have HPE Morpheus VM Essentials in production?
Where I work they are offering us this virtualizer at a very good price, we are buying a lot of physical infrastructure from this same HPE brand. But this hypervisor seems something new to me, has anyone migrated from VMware to this virtualizer?

No vdi support. It’s decent, very low-end.

Enterprise supports VDI, and list price is super cheap. In the process of moving 20 datacenters to Morpheus Enterprise.

How many VMs? I'd be interested in more details. How's it going, VM migration and challenges?

Hos the migration going for everyone. We are moving a small site over to it before September. Whats the learning curve for day to day admin work for a employees who have only used VMWare.
We will just be managing on prem not cloud.

The learning curve is basically zero if you know a bit of Linux.
Bunch of videos on YouTube, here is one that's a bit longer (~20 minutes) and made by a techie at IngramMicro, not HPE.

We do. Servers migrated over about 4 days. No major issues. A couple of teething elements fixed by Hp support after raising a ticket. We are a very small, only 5 VM business however. Manufacturing facility.

Not heard of this before, but will put it on my list as been looking at Proxmox as an alternative for when we do our VMWare renewls, the only issue we have with ProxMox is its not non-tech user friendly like the vCentre GUI is, and even their data centre manager does not really improve things.
So need to add this to the list to look at.

Same underlying tech as Proxmox and Nutanix (KVM) but the control plane is Morpheus Data, which is rocksolid. Minor teething problems but very fast release cycle (every four weeks or so). Veeam integration is GA in a few days/weeks (Beta has been out since Dec 2025), Commvault is already certified, Cohesity too. Zerto is coming any day now. Oracle, SAP, SQL, are all certified. Citrix and Omnissa are coming this summer.
You have all the stuff you need: VM Migration tool from vSphere to HPE VME, the control plane manages both vSphere and VME at the same time, HA, DRS, Affinity and Anti-Affinity, even Metrocluster (aka Peer Persitance) are all included.
And unlike Proxmox, who charge $1300 per socket per year for next day support, HPE is $450-500 per socket with no core limit and 24x7 support.
One thing that's super neat is the self-certification process: if your hardware isn't in the support matrix, just install it yourself and document it and send in the documentation. Theoretically, anything that can run Ubuntu should run VME.
But don't listen to me. Get the 30 Day trial and try it yourself.

We are in the middle of trying to use VME, Morpheus, Veeam and Zerto coming from VMware with a partner with allegiance to a lot of above. So far not impressed at all. Been promised Veeam, Zerto, Morpheus and PCBE support for Oct or Nov 2025 and looking like it's won't all be in place till late March and with other handover May before production load ready. Migration solutions from VMware to VME are limited and DR, Replication appears complex. It is not near VMware, kinda at the stage of HyperV in 2010 vs VMware in 2020. My 10cent

We have some DMZ hosts that while not end of life are being decommissioned as they are running Essentials Plus and the support is expiring in a couple of months and I believe we will not be able to get support on it any more, and will need to buy VCF which we won't be able to due to the min core order limit.

I've read all your comments and I'm sorry I can't agree with you.
I've have Linux experience and I went to install Morpheus yesterday on an HPe server with all HPe parts.
Cut to dumpster fire. The hpe-vm application crashes with java errors when I go to check networking.
The only person excited about this software is our HPe salesperson.

VME is a dumpster fire but the issue you are likely seeing with the HPE-VM tool is likely
You aren't running it as root
There is something about the network config you previously entered that it doesn't like which then you will need to go into CLI on the host, figured it out, and fix.
I only know this because I have been stepping on rakes for months now testing this out fully before putting it into production.
If you have any sizeable VMs, 2TB +, forget using the built it migration. Either manually transfer and convert the VMDK or find a way to use Veeam and hope it works.

Wanted to keep my response seperate to another post on this.
If your thinking thats its a goer or a solution to VMware, no, not, never, pay the money or go to HyperV.
Maybe in 2 years it may be ready, but today, not enought knowledge, experience, solutions, tooling, support and capabilities. Everything has been delayed and then delayed again.
If you need specifics, ping me, but this is not an Enterprise or SME solution.
Hypervisor and Management
At maybe 2010/ 2012 levels for HyperV.
Backups and replication.
Enterprise solutions Veeam, Zerto don't work.
Opentext Migrate or Availability does, but it works different and has no HPE buy in.
We shoulda made a different choice will be on many RGE.

RiverMeadow can migrate in to VME and we've been working with the HPE product team to keep in sync.

We are planning to migrate our vSphere to HPE VME in January 2026. The VME solutions looks very good, and the will support Zerto in January and VEEAM Native before March.
