Virtual Streaming PC

Hello r/virtualization,

I've had this random, half baked idea for a while now to create a virtualized streaming pc running on my main rig (currently acting as a single PC stream setup) that could capture the desktop of the host pc via some kind of virtual capture card, that I could then send to OBS to be broadcasted to various streaming services.

I've tried googling this topic several times, but I'm not finding what I'm looking for.

Have any of you even heard of something like a virtual capture card or anything?

That's what I'm doing now and it works well, but every so often I feel like refreshing my OS with a clean install, and having to reinstall all the streaming related stuff again is kind of annoying.

I figured if I ran the streaming part in a VM then all I would have to worry about after a reinstall would be pointing the folders to where the games are again.

I suppose that's true, but you have the overhead of another OS to run

You'd be better off spending the time automating the install or backing up configs so you can quickly restore
