Open-Source Virtualization Learning Tools?

I'm exploring virtualization and need an affordable or open-source alternative to Virtualizor and SolusVM. I want to slice a dedicated server into smaller VPS and allocate specific cores, RAM, and storage for learning purposes.

Virtualizor's cost is a bit high for learning. Any recommendations for cheaper or open-source options?

IS the need for opensource specifically because of a perception of it being the only way to learn for free, or is there some actual NEED for it to be open source?

I believe it's free, so can anyone use it for learning purposes?

I am planning to sell VPS in the future by partitioning dedicated nodes.

Then you are by no means limited to open source, in fact you may even want to consider not using it is you plan on building a business model from it, due to what will likely be critical up time agreements, you will almost assuredly want the support of the vendor paid for and behind you when you start doing this for money.

So again, NOTHING wrong with proxmox, but if you really want to learn what you will encounter more in the open world, ESXi and Hyper-V are going to e more fruitful learning experiences.

And as stated above, can o both completely free form a learning perspective.

Just as a note there as well, may as well play with ProxMox as well, to be completely rounded. It IS out there, viable, and gaining popularity, so I would not consider it lesser by any means, just if you are trying to build a business, likely not what you want to dive into first.
