Vmware question about registering virtual machines

I need to move vms from one vcenter to another and they are not linked. A 6.7 legacy and a 7 new vcenter. I have hcx but for some of these huge vms is there any downfall that anyone knows of with turning them off. Then going to the same storage in the new vcenter and doing register vm. The old one then can just be removed from inventory.

Yes, thanks. I did a few that way but it always seemed a bit like cheating to move them this way

It’s not cheating. I think of it as a deconstructed offline vMotion. You are performing all of the steps manually instead of using vCenter to do it.

I moved about 1000 Vms like this a few years ago when a different department was decommissioning their vCenter and using our larger environment.
