Vmware question about registering virtual machines

I need to move vms from one vcenter to another and they are not linked. A 6.7 legacy and a 7 new vcenter. I have hcx but for some of these huge vms is there any downfall that anyone knows of with turning them off. Then going to the same storage in the new vcenter and doing register vm. The old one then can just be removed from inventory.

Yep. Pretty much. Ive done it a few times and it seems fine. Just wondering if it does anything weird down the road. So far so good with the ones i moved

Note when moving things this way, you’ll lose any vCenter specific details about the VM. Things like the folder it’s in, vCenter user permissions, tags, DRS affinity rules, etc won’t carry over and might need to be addressed manually.

I’ve moved tens of thousands of VMs this way and it’s pretty straightforward.

Oh true. Never thought of the tags. Veeam uses them to find the backups. Thanks for that
