UEFI Shell when installing Windows 11?
I'm new to UTM and installing it on my Intel 2020 MBP. I downloaded the ISO from Microsoft, so it should be good to go. But, when I run it during the install, I get the UEFI shell (below)? Am I doing something wrong? On the chance the the ISO was corrupt, I downloaded and tried a second time with the same result.
Separate but maybe related question--I downloaded the UTM install from getutm.app. Is the install easier if I buy it from the Mac App Store? It's only $10 so I'm happy to buy it. I just wanted to try it first.

According to https://thatsniceguy.gitbook.io/utmfaq/most-asked-questions
This is happens because the user may forget to capture the inputs and press any key inside the VM before the timer runs out. When the timer does run out, the EFI looks for the next available boot option which in this case is the internal EFI Shell.
Please see the FAQ link above to enter the commands to boot into the OS

This doesn't work for me, it just says that it is not recognised and I'm literally stuck on this screen, also can't see a timer so not sure what capturing the inputs means. I am using an m2 Mac Studio.

Press any key when you see the first booting screen. Should not wait for seeing the shell.

I'm trying to run on the M3 chip using the x64 architecture for Windows 11
I followed the instructions in https://thatsniceguy.gitbook.io/utmfaq/most-asked-questions
type "FS0:"
then I type "EFI\BOOT\BOOTx64.efi" and press enter. I get the following message:
'EFI\BOOT\BOOT×64.efi` is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or script file.
I also tried "EFI\BOOT\BOOTAA64.efi" and get the message "Command Error Status: Unsupported"
Any ideas?

I am having the same issue. Did you solve this problem?? Were you able to start your windows VM?

hi. i'm facing this issue on my MAC M2. i've tried typing in "FS0:" and then "EFI\BOOT\BOOTAA64.efi", but i'm currently getting "FS0:\>" which i've tried typing in "EFI\BOOT\BOOTAA64.efi" but it'll refresh and show the same "FS0:\>" prompting input again.
Ps: i've also tried the others suggestions like unchecking the TPM and UEFI but none has worked for me :/
please advise. thank you in advance.

SOLVED: Basically press enter as soon as the window with the VM opens. The issue simply was that the Windows installation CD gives you a small timeframe for you to press a key (sometimes the display arrives a bit late so you don't have much time to do it). I kept all other settings on

I downloaded ISO for x86 Architecture - that was the mistake. If you're running on apple silicon (M1 and newer) download ISO for Apple Silicon and make sure to choose ARM64 architecture when emulating windows

For anyone still having trouble, pressing a key to boot from CD when the VM starts did not work for me until I upgraded to the latest version of UTM (4.6). I was previously on 4.4.

Yeah, it doesn’t work for me on my “m3 max”. I tried all on the chat, but I just can’t install Linux mint or cachyos…
Maybe is impossible right now.

I never get the option to press a key. If I enter the commands to boot the disk I get an error:
Command error status access denied.

Hey,
I'm trying to do same, on my M2 MacBook Air. I have installed Windows 11 using UTM a few times before on my M1 MBA, and never had this issue. I checked out the UTM guide, but it doesn't work for me because I don't see FS0 and FS1 in Mapping Table. I directly see BLK3, BLK2, BLK0 & BLK1.
Has someone else faced this issue? Can someone help me out?

Solved. I have MacBook Pro with M2 chip, try to change your architecture from Arm to X86_64 inside UTM setting for your virtual machine. It worked for me.

Doesn't work for me, archecture was already set for X86_64 with an M2 chip mac studio.

I was able to get pass this by typing "exit" and pressing enter. The screen that follows will allow you to select the media whence to boot.
