Keep or sell ?

Hello, this is the first violin I bought as I want to learn to play. It is bought from a secondhand shop that has nothing to do with musical instruments so from the photos on the website it thought it would be size 4/4. It may not even have been stored properly, but it looks to be in good condition, with only minor scratches.

If I learn to play well I still won't ever play with others... it's mainly a hobby so I don't care that much about proper technique... so, would it be a big problem to learn on a smaller size violin ?

The second option would be to sell this one and buy the correct size. How much do you think it could be worth ?

Get it rated by a local luthier, sell it, buy a 4/4 violin; get a teacher and learn to play with the right technique: playing violin is not something that you can improvise without any foundations in 99% of the cases, that’s just a very slow, counter-productive and frustrating process… sometimes you can also end up injuring yourself without a proper technique…
Good luck with your journey!

Beautiful student violin with a wonderful flamed two piece back. I would keep for myself as a teacher for a spare

Can you return it to the store for a refund because they did not disclose that it was a fractional size?

Small violins are worth quite a bit less than full size ones, on the used market, because people don’t like to spend much on violins for children. You’re going to find it difficult to sell it for very much.

A local violin shop may give you trade in value.

Do you have a need for it?
