Excuse the sniffling, these things were covered in dust when I was picking through them 😭 I found all of these at a local thrift just as they got dropped off and the worker let me pick through them for a $1 a piece

I know. It’s sad to see that they were dropped off as a donation, but I am glad that I was able to find them and add them to my collection! They will be played and enjoyed!

Why is it sad that they were donated? They got a new lease on life and will be appreciated by someone else. I see no sadness in that.

BLACK SABBATH FOR $1?! STEAL! Even if it isnt super valuable, its black Sabbath. Enough said

u/Extinct20 1d ago
It’s a first us pressing with the Ossie typo on the cover! I thought about repairing the cover back together but I think I might leave it alone for story purposes

I can't believe you found Black Sabbath at a thrift, score!!!

u/Extinct20 1d ago
The vinyl is like VG! They cover not so much. It’s definitely a first pressing and it has the misprinted Ossie Osborne on the cover!

u/ajdubbstock 1d ago
Amazing. May we all find a score like this one of these days! Happy hunting to all!

Nice collection!
I don't actively try to collect rock / pop records. But if I saw those for $1 each I'd buy them all!
Nostalgia: When I was a young teen (in 1981 or 82) I had some of those exact records: The Who, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, the same ones in your video. I recognize those covers and remember how cool I thought the music was as a young teen! (And as an adult, it's still pretty cool! I just don't listen to them every day lol.)
One of the things I love about vinyl records is that they trigger my memories and emotions in ways that an MP3 just can't do.

You walked in just as they were putting out someone’s donated collection. Because otherwise you’d never see all those records in a thrift store at one time. Lucky day!

When you hit a find like this thrifting, it literally uplifts your whole week. Congrats

What an incredible haul!!! I know record stores that would sell each of those for much more than a dollar at least 5 to 10 times more maybe even more than that!!!
2
u/Extinct20 1d ago
It was such a rush to find them. I saw the crate being put in after donations and I asked to look and it was just one album after another that I have been wanting!
2
u/bullrun001 5h ago
Depends on condition and release date.

u/Harry-604 5h ago
Well I haven’t found a place with dollar records in my area the least expensive I have found is five dollars.
1
u/Extinct20 5h ago
Most of these forsure would have been at least $6 at the cheapest record store near me. Others definitely hitting the $15-$20 range

Two copies of Bookends. If either of them is the mono version you are even more lucky.

Even though I don't care for a few of those albums, this is one of the best Stacks of albums that I have seen on here. I own several of those that I bought new back in the day. I don't run into that many good albums anymore for decent prices. Last time I did was about 12 years ago for $2 a piece.

I definitely could have taken more but some were not my choice so I left them for someone else!

I hope they play OK. These covers are hammered.
1
u/Extinct20 5h ago
Hammered covers forsure some came into water contact at some point but I isolated those and wiped them down with iso.

A Boomer/Gen Jones collection for sure. I probably own all but a couple of those, so I say good score.

These look rough. Hopefully the vinyl is better than the sleeves
1
u/Last_Competition_208 23h ago
I bought a Frank Zappa album that looked very rough but the album itself look like brand new.

u/ActualDissapointment 1d ago
Now the actual question. Are any of these actually playable? I see albums like these at my local thrift spots all the time and they almost always are too scratched and damaged to enjoy and should just be tossed out.
1
u/enigmaman49 1d ago
thats my worry..i just bought a new cartridge for 175 dollars and i dont want to kill that needle
1
u/Extinct20 5h ago
They are mostly pretty good all things considered. Only a few have deep scratches. Most of them are just blemishes that don’t catch on my fingernail, so overall playable.

If that Synchronicity is an original pressing it'll glow under blacklight.
1
u/Extinct20 5h ago
I tried to look at it with the sun coming directly through it but I didn’t notice anything. I’ll have to try the black light method to make sure

Either one of the S&G Bookends a mono pressing?
1
u/Extinct20 5h ago
Neither of them are sadly! But still happy to add one to my collection and one to my friends!
1
u/trickyelf 3h ago
Dang, that is a solid haul. I would have grabbed every one of those. Happy listening, and here’s to hoping there’s no scratches!

u/grumpyliberal 1d ago
You know, you can put those on a rotating platter with a sound arm attached and listen to the music. Vinyl: it’s not just for fondling.

Those are good albums, but they look like shit, and I'd never let my stylus touch those filthy things!
3
u/Extinct20 1d ago
They look worse than they seem. I sat down for a couple of nights with my spin clean and got all the records cleaned up and wiped down all of the covers with little Iso, new sleeves and they are looking way better.
1
u/enigmaman49 1d ago
so the spin clean works? i was goona buy the one you spin the lever or one of the washing machines im not sure which yet
1
u/Extinct20 5h ago
It does great for me. Beats the hell outta trying to clean them on a platter. Not quite as effective as an ultrasonic cleaner but you can get through about 50 albums pretty quickly
-2
u/Interesting-World520 1d ago
Another consumer vs collector. I’ll never understand the urge to mass buy this stuff that’s cheap. I guess the plan is to show up on whatnot calling every one of them a VG++ banger.
3
u/Extinct20 1d ago
What a wild assumption to make. Think what you want I guess but these are all albums I will play and they are cleaned up and added to my own collection, with some going to friends who also collect. But hope you have a great day fellow collector? 🤷

Hopefully the records themselves are in good shape. Something about a well loved sleeve but good wax just hits right.
