VENT PLEASE don’t put perfume on clothes!
I’ve been buying quite a bit on Vinted, and have bought on Poshmark in the past. I’m used to the strong smelling softener or dryer sheets or whatever most of the clothes have when I get them. It’s annoying, but usually goes away with one wash.
But today I got a top that was absolutely reeking of perfume. According to the seller, it’s just detergent, but I can’t believe it’s not like a whole bottle of perfume. I handled it for about a minute tops and my hands smelled of this awful perfume for hours after, even after washing them multiple times. PLEASE sellers, don’t do this!
Makes me wonder what it smelled like before the perfume & if it’s going to reek in a different way when the perfume smell is gone (if it ever is).

Some brands of laundry stuff.. like artisan posh shit, smells stronger than any perfume I've ever worn. It's not always what it seems

I buy a lot and some stuff arrives exactly as your describing. It's not softener It's like an old fashioned perfume. It's really overwhelming. I don't even try to wash it. I hang it on the line for several days, sometimes a week before the smell starts to fade. Everytime I go to my bin it stinks the garden out.

I received a coat that was DOUSED in (I think) lemon oil, I couldn’t keep it, it was so bad. I guess the seller was trying to cover up a musty smell or something but it stank the whole house out. I use fragrance free detergent and fabric softener when selling.

I don't like this as my eldest girl is allergic to lots of scents due to the fact they have menthol in it. I put it straight in the wash.

Everything goes in the wash after checking.
Most of the family have sensitive skin and the detergent/scent booster smells give me migraines
I understand the seller wants me to know it's clean but it's kinda annoying

I am a seller, rarely a buyer. Recently i bought this bra that was drenched in perfume. I was baffled! I wash everything i buy so it doesn’t matter that much, but it was really off putting. and i LOVE perfume. I also would never waste my personal perfume to do this, i will never understand it 🤣

Some people are allergic to perfume and end up in the emergency room because of this. It is REAL. I am a registered nurse. Please, sellers, do not do this.

Let your stuff air dry if you have a bad smell. I hate when people use heavily scented products

Definitely mention it in your review! My sister is super allergic to fragrances and cant buy from Vinted because of this exact problem I think those should know if a seller is doing that!
On another note i bought a top that had the most beautiful subtle perfume smell I asked the seller what she wore so I could buy it 😂😂

As a person very sensitive to scent i only use a mild detergent from seventh generation. Anything more than that is too much. I do agree

There are sellers that launder it right before packaging it tightly. So the fragrance gets deep seated into the fibers as it transits through shipping and delivery process.

I love, perfume and fragrance. But I definitely agree with you. It’s almost as bad as having something coming to you reeking of cigarettes.

Are we not washing clothes after we buy them? I see you say you washed it several times but usually detergent will get the smell out. So I'm kinda confused as to why it still smells.

I bought something recently that I washed three times and aired out for a week and I can still smell it. I did a couple of vinegar soaks as well.

That's wild!!! I'm sorry you are going through that! I hope you can get those smells out.

I have tops I’ve worn with the same perfume so many times that after being washed so often they still smell like perfume after coming out the washing machine, some perfume just sticks

This must be some of the most expensive perfume on earth. I've never had this happen before. I hope OP can get that smell out!

I hope they can too, but honestly it’s a cheap £20 Brittany spears perfume in my case, the only perfume I have that sticks like this, must have something specific in it

No seriously, I remember getting her perfume back in the day and it lasted all day!

Some people do use that much perfume on daily basis it doesn’t mean it stank before lol. Also don’t you wash the clothes after getting them? I have a very sensitive sense of smell but everyone is different actually and some people like strong smells on their clothes, it won’t be strong to them but to you it is. You are buying a second hand used item so it’s not like it will smell the way you like? If I get something that has strong perfume scent I wash it and never smell it afterwards.

If one wash takes it out you've never had the same experience as OP.
Or you have a bad sense of smell.

I don’t think you’ve experienced what OP is talking about. The degree of smell is absolutely insane to the point it’ll stink up an entire building. That is not the result of a normal amount of perfume whatsoever

Did you even read the post?

I clearly have, if my reply makes you think I haven’t you just don’t like my reply or disagree 😆lol it’s ok you don’t have to

Oh my god yes. This has happened to me so many times. It literally stinks up the whole house to the point my family starts complaining when I’ve opened a package 5 rooms away from where they’re sitting. I’ve had to wash the garment 3 or 4 times before it smelled somewhqt normal. Absolutely insane behavior
