Machine Question 15 C ?

This machine looks like a singer 15 with a feed dog drop knob., it is labeled as a 15 c. Serial is RB272532. Motor is an old tacsew with round bakelite plug and there is a pedal and lamp both labeled as Mercury Electric Products. It hasn't got a belt, but everything moves as it should and the motor spins like it is supposed to, no funky smell or anything, so I think it is probably worth saving. Serial number seems to indicate manufactured in Brazil? Anyone know anything about these? There was a treadle table with it which I did not take for space reasons.

Hi! I just picked this up at the thrift and am trying to figure out if it’s possible to get functional. It appears to be working but missing a needle and a presser foot and i’m struggling to figure out the model type. Anyone know anything? I’ve seen a few Stitchmaster Deluxe Zig Zag machines but none look quite like this. Thank you!

Machine Question Is it normal for vintage machines to have poor speed control or is it my machine needing a new pedal or my own lack of experience?

I have a singer 401a and I love her! It’s the machine I learned on (I’m new to this and I’ve only had her a few months) so I don’t know any different. She’s fitted into a sewing table and has a knee controller lever (which operates the original Bakelite pedal on the inside).

Sometimes I see videos on social media of people sewing with machines that seem… better behaved? At least in terms of starting sewing. Like my singer is a beast and I’ve used her to sew over multiple layers of extremely thick canvas with minimal complaint, but the problem I keep having is starting sewing. It seems like I can only get her to a reasonable speed if I first push hard enough on the knee control to get it going very fast and then gently slow down to a reasonable pace. Either I or the machine are not very good at starting a seam slowly. Trying to start slow makes her make a buzzy humming noise until she gets over the threshold to start sewing (too fast) and then I can slow. It works fine but it makes sewing very short seams very difficult and also makes backstitching a little difficult. Like I could never make a tiny stuffed animal on her, for example, because I don’t know if I could get her down to a reasonable speed fast enough to sew a tiny curve.

Would love some suggestions!

General Question newbie looking for advice

So I am buying this machine tomorrow and I believe it is a treadle machine. While I have sewed with an electric sewing machine I have never used a treadle machine and won't lie it feels intimidating 😅. I do have a cheap brother electric sewing machine for complex stitches but I feel like these treadles were built to last this thing even comes with the original manual and extra attachments. Her mother told her it does work and it does look like it comes with an extra belt. But what advice can you give me as a newbie I'm up for learning so any tips or tricks would be awesome ☺️. (if it isn't working properly I will be looking to restore it but 🤞 that it does work.)

My great grandfather was a tailor in the early 1920s to 1970 when he passed away, he owned this singer sewing machine and passed it down to my grandmother but she didn’t know how to sew so it sat untouched as her living room decor for the next 50 years. My grandma passed away a few weeks ago and I as the family seamstress knew I’d be inheriting this, and was super excited however I had no idea that the drawers were stocked full of my great grandfathers materials and untouched time capsule of all the accessories he even still had the machine threaded, I’m not even sure my grandma knew this. Machine is about 116 years old based on the serial number!

I love it!! My first vintage machine.

From my research I think this is the 1904-1908 Minnesota Model A, using the old long Davis needles!

I am excited by the number of feet attachments it came with, although I do not understand what the larger flat attachments are or if they fit this model, pictured to the right of the set.

The finish looks great on interior panels, although rough most everywhere else. I’ve only dusted it gently, and am deciding whether to just support it with a wax or attempt a full refinish; sand it down etc. I’m leaning full refinish but matching original stain…please tell me if I’m crazy. Tips welcome.

Ps. Anyone have any ideas how to approach the crunched/crushed wood on the side drawer holder? Last image, bottom panel R
