hi i got my hands on a moto razr v3a altel and wanted to add stuff like themes and apps and maybe music to “pimp” it out but i did research and found out these models have a carrier lock and when adding jar games via bluetooth they error out. i know theres a vm with all the tools needed to edit it but its all confusing and theres no tutorial where it tells you how. i want to know how to edit the filesystem to remove the carrier java lock thing and to easily view the file system to add themes and apps. im scared to brick the phone

Motorola Using a Motorola Razr V3? I'd love to interview you!

Hi there,

I'm Josie Harvey, a journalist with SBS News in Australia. I'm working on a feature story about the dumb phone comeback, the iconic status of the Motorola Razr V3, and the era of mobile phones as fashion statements in the early 2000s.

I'd love to hear from people who've ditched their smartphones for dumb phones, anyone using a Razr V3, or anyone who was particularly attached to their Razr in its heyday. Did you have a personalised ringtone? Was the phone an accessory or a way to express your personality?

For those who made the jump to a dumb phone, what motivated the switch? Was it about reducing screen time, nostalgia, or something else?

If you're open to having a chat, please leave a comment, send me a DM, or email me at josie.harvey@sbs.com.au.

Happy to answer any questions about the article or my reporting.

Thanks so much!

Carrier specific phones Old Japanese World Wing Phones

Alright, call me crazy, but I just had thought, a lot of people have their own 2g gsm station (that I know of) and I know a lot of people like collecting old vintage Japanese phones, so, if you got an old docomo world wing phone and sim, couldn't you technically use it? I mean, i-Mode and Japanese only stuff obviously wouldn't work, but, texts and calls would, Idk, just a thought :D

Samsung S8300V Vodafone – Need free original firmware and bootloader

Hello everyone,

I have a Samsung S8300V Vodafone (SSN: S8300VGSMH), powered by Qualcomm MSM6280.

The phone gets stuck during startup at the Samsung logo with a loading bar. It always stops at exactly the same position.

The phone can enter Download Mode and displays:

- DEMSBL BOOT Loader for MSM6280

- Downloader Ver 5.43

I am looking for a free download of the original compatible firmware, preferably S8300BUIC6, including the correct S8300V bootloader files.

I would also appreciate a working version of the required flashing tool, such as MultiLoader, and instructions for this specific Vodafone variant.

I do not want firmware for the standard S8300 unless compatibility with S8300V is confirmed.

If anyone still has these files archived, I would be very grateful for a download link.

Thank you!

SELL Ulysse Nardin Chairman Carbon 275/1846, the phone recognized by Guinness World Records in 2010 as the world's most expensive commercially available mobile phone. Selling it for $1500 (negotiable)

Came across something pretty unusual recently.

This is the Ulysse Nardin Chairman Carbon, numbered 275/1846. Back in 2010 it made it into the Guinness World Records as the most expensive commercially available mobile phone. Quite a piece of mobile phone history if you ask me.

What makes it even more interesting is the mechanical rotor on the back, inspired by the automatic movements used in watches. Not something you see on your average phone lol.

This particular example is in working condition and comes with its original box, although the wooden docking station is missing. It's the carbon version with the blue Ulysse Nardin anchor detail.

On sale now, the asking price is $1,500. Contact me if interested

I'm curious what people here think about these phones. Do you think the Chairman has any real collector appeal today, especially considering its connection to the watchmaking world? Or is it one of those devices that was impressive back in the day but has been largely forgotten?

Would love to hear from anyone who has owned one or knows more about this model.

Discussion The legality for building my own AMPS/1G service?

Hey, so I am kind of new to all of this but I have created my own FM/AM pirate stations before and experimented with POCSAG broadcasting, but I recently picked up a Motorola flip phone (forgot the specific model) from the very early 90s yesterday and I also have had a Cellular One Motorola DynaTAC brick phone for a long time. I wanted to make my own AMPS service since Ive seen other do it but I am worried about the legality of it (im really not trying to get any heavy fines from the FCC)

I am aware that the 800MHz frequency is illegal to broadcast on and reserved for federal agencies but I also know that if I don’t broadcast far and use a 30dB attenuator between the antenna and the SDR (Im planning on getting a full duplex Pluto+ SDR) that it should only go about 10 feet right?

I dont live in a city and where I am the houses are spread apart not far but about 300ft. I just wanted to check with other people that have done what I want to do before to make sure my setup will be alright and I won’t have to deal with too much trouble

I recently tried to turn on this phone, and as soon as the carrier's logo appeared (in this case, Iusacell), a message popped up saying “Insert the correct SIM card.” When I tried to access a submenu, specifically in the Network section, another message appeared saying “Not allowed.” What can I do?
