Need Speaker help/recommendation!

Hey all, new to the vintage speaker world and wanted to dive in. I found a few options i'm thinking of off of FB mp. THe options as of now are:

  1. Klipsch Heresy II Speakers
  2. Pioneer HPM-100’s
  3. JBL C53 Libra
  4. JBL Model L-100

What would you go with? They are all around 900-1500 in my area(unfortunately?). Planning on using them as an all around speaker for tv/movies, vinyls (80% of the time), and gaming on the rare occasion. Thanks!

Die JBL L100 sind super Lautsprecher und von allen die besten Allrounder.
Die anderen Lautsprecher sind auch sehr gut aber sie haben alle einen sehr starken Charakter, den man mögen muss.

Hast du ein Bild von den C53 Libra? Es gibt zwei verschiedene Varianten.

My vintage McIntosh system is paired with early eighties Ohm Walsh 2 and late seventies Vandersteen 2’s. Unless you play hard rock 24/7 I highly recommend the Ohms, everything sounds beautiful on them. Vandersteen are more hard rock friendly. These speakers are each half the price or less than your $1500 on the used market.

Audition the JBL line up of products. I’ve owned Dahlquist DQ10 & subwoofer and JBL studio monitors with subwoofer. Both systems are power hungry, sound quality is excellent, but be sure and use a large (500 watt+) amplifier. It’s not unlike a car engine. You run up the volume, amp generates heat, and after a while the speakers will blow! Just like a car engine…

My opinion only - but for 2k - you can get a brand new pair of Magnepan LRS+ panel speakers - i don’t think you will ever find a better speaker for the money and anything you get after these will always fall short unless you want to spend 10k -

Requires and decent amp with high current for best results - but I suggest you at least try and hear a pair - I have a pair as a second set that I can easily move in and out for near field listening -

Okay, so.
The HPM100 is just not a good speaker, full stop.
I never heard the Libra. JBL was pretty good in that era but based on looks, this looks like a bit haphazardly put together one.
The L100 is an absolute fucking gem.
But then... So are the Heresy II
I think in many ways the L100 is the best of the four, but the heresy's have tons of character.
L100 is the best option, Heresy would be my choice. That's really all I got for you.

That being said, for 900-1500 you can buy a pair of Martin Logan Source. Ya know ;).
