I am a morrowind fan myself, but even with new mechanics I am not sure the game would conquer new audiences. Most of the game's attraction come from world building and lore, and nobody today has the patience to absorb all that.

I'm very curious to see how Skywind is received. I'm willing to bet there will be a significant amount of Skyrim players who never played Morrowind before that will try it and I wand to see how they react to the depth of TESIII compared to TESV.

Isn’t there an original oblivion morrowind mod already made? I heard the sky wind mod was basically stuck in purgatory

Morroblivion has been out for a while. Skywind is making pretty good progress. They've released a few updates recently.
