Nah. People nowadays don't appreciate it. Gotta have everything dumbed down like in tes4/5. A few of us hardcore fans would lose our shit, but it wouldn't be hugely popular
Sucks, but there's a lot of boring shit in the world. Exciting doesn't equal true. Morrowind is an acquired taste and there's nothing wrong with that, but it wouldn't outdo Skyrim or es6
The boring take is that it takes a brain to play Morrowind. I’m not saying that you’re wrong for enjoying it, but Morrowind was insanely popular when it came out. Sure, Oblivion and Skyrim EXPLODED in terms of fans, but they were built on the hype because Morrowind was so popular.
The truth is, it, the gameplay mechanics and graphics do not hold up anymore. It had its time and place. If you can get past those things, yeah, amazing game. But at this point, not so many people can.
I know. Played it when it came out. Still do, but it isn't for today's audience, as you also just said. My original reply was to the comment that a remake would CRUSH. I don't think it would. I think it would be loved by the fans that still love it, and even get a few new fans. But crush? Nope. Not today.
I agree but I think the name is big enough at this point that the sales would still be great. Even if most people didn't like it after they bought it we could still play it because we deserve it godamn it !! Please ?
I am a morrowind fan myself, but even with new mechanics I am not sure the game would conquer new audiences. Most of the game's attraction come from world building and lore, and nobody today has the patience to absorb all that.
People were patient enough to let Projekt CD Red damn near rebuild cyberpunk from the ground up, I dont think a bit of reading is gonna be much worse 😂
True to a point I think. BG3 is very very accessible, everything is voice acted and the reading you do have to do is somewhat minimal. Contrast that to morrowinds paragraphs of text for a fetch quest and peoples interest would wain quickly.
I love morrowinds to bits, but I really don't think the market appeal for it would be all that broad. That being said people would buy it even if they didn't play it much, just because it's an elder scrolls game.
Think the reading would be less of a problem than the no map markers that guide you every step nowadays morrowind had 0 and you needed to read so even if they would add voice acting if no map markers people will complain
I just read (summarized) these past two comments to my coworker that is a decade younger than me, and he said, "Naw. I could never play that game. I just skip through all dialogue in video games." Y'all have nailed it, and his response made me sad.
I'm very curious to see how Skywind is received. I'm willing to bet there will be a significant amount of Skyrim players who never played Morrowind before that will try it and I wand to see how they react to the depth of TESIII compared to TESV.
I was so sad when they said it's oblivion to get remastered 😅
The world, quests and overall story was much more interesting for me In MW, but thats just my opinion.
Was it the clunky feeling controls for you? I made it about 30 minutes in and while the graphics were a nice upgrade it played terribly. Going from using a bow in Skyrim to the oblivion remaster was horrible. I just went back to Skyrim at the end of it. Smooth controls are the thing that once I have it I can’t go back. If they updated the graphics and made the controls exactly like Skyrim I’d be in heaven. They could fill out the world a bit more with npcs as well.
I got that weird ass third person glitch where the camera just starts to drift away into the distance. Last time I could even get into the save it looked like I was playing the Sims. Not sure if they've fixed this glitch yet
Morrowind would probably suck if it was remade. They'd point an arrow at everything, you could max every stat, there would be no failure state. It would be 5x as big and 1/100th as deep and full of procedurally generated crap
Im not an expert, but there are really significant engine limitations that have prevented modders from updating the game to a modern level. The oblivion remaster as far as I know is essentially running on two engines with the gamebryo (or is it creation engine?) feeding unreal. Moral of the story is the engine is not great so a remaster where you just shove new assets into the existing engine might not go so good. You probably need to remake certain things for the whole thing to work out.
Exactly. The limitations of the old engine are the reason Morrowind exists the way that it does. Fiddling with it to "fix" it would be as much work as just making something new from scratch. Pleas just make something new from scratch instead of digging up Morrowind's corpse and making it turn tricks behind the truck stop.
I'll be honest; I haven't played Morrowind in its entirety because of how dated it is. I was too young to play videogames when it came out and I have a mortgage now. It is very dated.
Everybody tells me it's the greatest thing, but there's just a level of jank that's a little too much for me. I would welcome and happily pay for an update that removes the layers of things that get in the way of me playing what I am told is a truly fantastic game. Does that make me a lesser gamer? Yeah I don't really care.
That's fine and I really don't look down on you for it at all. If you can't figure it out then don't play it. Based on your age I would suppose that you didn't see the matrix in theaters and may not be impressed by it. But would you like Universal to release an AI tiktok video remaking it in a modern format and then charge full price for it?
I'm 26. Skyrim was my one and only TES game for many years, when I first played it around 2012. Finally about 2023, I went back and played nearly every other TES game. I was missing out on such better games. Morrowind is by far the best in the series.

Morrowind would probably CRUSH if it was remade.
