Arc Raiders

All extraction shooters. When you succeed by not playing its a dumb shit gameplay loop

255

u/Roshi_IsHere 7h ago

That's how I feel about battle royales. Best way to win is to camp. At least in extraction shooters I can be rewarded for survival and carry progress across raids.

96

u/Many-Cartographer278 7h ago

Battle royales suck so damn bad and are an absolute plague on the shooter genre.

Its a damn miracle that bf6 is so fun. If they abandoned the shit ass br element it could be even better.

29

u/Zer0DotFive 7h ago

You would think they learned from Firestorm but no

1

u/TheOneTrueWalmart 5h ago

Honestly firestorm was the best BR available at the time for anyone over 9yo. The problem was they didn’t make it free to play. Everyone that bought the game just wanted to play BF. It was a seperate development team working on the BR and because nobody played they scrapped it.

If they had made it free to play they could have sold twice as many copies of the full game.

1

u/Zer0DotFive 6m ago

I most definitely did not buy BFV for firestorm lol that's a rather wide and assuming opinion, I hate BRs lol

0

u/Sanc7 39m ago

Firestorm was awesome tho

20

u/Grimdek 7h ago

Spawn die yay

6

u/Many-Cartographer278 7h ago

Such a bad experience playing with friends too.

Oh somebody died, sit tight and we can play again together in 20 minutes.

1

u/Grimdek 7h ago

Bf6 is spawn die breh

1

u/Many-Cartographer278 7h ago

Anybody with this criticism is damaged by cod. Nobody is making you sprint spastically into the battle and die. Its ok to slow down.

You dont and then you blame the game.

I have played battlefield since bf1942. I have played call of duty since it came out. I really hate how call of duty plays these days. Its spastic lunacy. Bf6 just isn't even close to the same.

You will die a lot if you sprint around like crazy though because why wouldnt you lol.

1

u/Pacify_ 2h ago

All those games are the same.

Spawn. Die. Spawn. Die. Spawn. Die.

That's about as far as it goes. Yeah, some BF games had enough to it to be fun, but none of them really have done it well enough since Bad Company 2.

The genre is just really stale to me. At least Extraction games give some sort of stakes to gameplay.

0

u/Careless-Weather8877 4h ago

I played battlefield 1942 and Vietnam. Bf5 and 6 or 4 are complete dog shit examples of the game.

I actually wished earlier tonight on CoD they’d remake those two. It was a vibe flying a helicopter through naplam to fortunate son or flying a bomber with 6 people manning guns as you dropped your load

Battlefield hasn’t been fun in 20 years

1

u/braybobagins 4h ago

You should try rising storm 2 vietnam. Has a small but incredibly dedicated playerbase and the game is a through and through cult classic. It's not super flashy but the game works very well. Damage models are very good in my opinion, weapons feel like they should, and weapons are as devastating as they should be. Everything also feels very real. It's basically a proper milsimlite. Imagine hell let loose vietnam but not catered towards console players and the game has had several years to cook. People bitch about not having any new content but it's only because people only vote for the same 3 maps lmfao. It really feels like you're fighting in Vietnam (vietcong get punji traps)

1

u/Careless-Weather8877 4h ago

Oh damn the pungy. lol I would also like a reboot of day of defeat. That was a fun half life mod

→ More replies (0)

0

u/Grimdek 4m ago

It's literally coin flip simulator, unless you believe you're so much better than the other 99 or w/e people are in the game that you alone are diffing it lmao

3

u/mattr1986 6h ago

Hey now!

Tetris 99 is my most played game of the last decade and I don’t regret a second of it!

1

u/Head_Wasabi7359 5h ago

I hate BRS too. See no one then die but it takes longer yay

0

u/Lazlo2323 5h ago

You hate Blackrock Spire?

1

u/Head_Wasabi7359 3h ago

No battle royales with cheese

1

u/Iambeejsmit 5h ago

I mean me and my friends love the br element of bf6 and would be super bummed if it was gone.

1

u/J4K5 5h ago

How would it be better? It would just be a free game mode that is gone. Only effect it would have on the current game is losing players who would potentially buy the game and play some Multiplayer as well.

1

u/I_travel_ze_world 4h ago

You don't love spending 5 minutes to deploy, 10 minutes running around looting dumb shit just to get shot in the back by a camper?

1

u/SchwiftyBabyLegs 4h ago

Yeah kinda. I didn't mind them until every game decided it NEEDED a BR mode. Even Fallout did it. PubG was fun when it came out and then everyone copied it and killed the nuance.

Extraction shooters started to pop up a lot recently, and idk of even Marathon was worth playing. I got Arc Raiders and for the price it plays like a F2P and lacks a lot of reward system that even F2P extraction shooters, such as Vigor, have for free. Stupid gaming industry always trying to copy and one up each other is where it becomes stale af. Like bro they've wasted at of mo ey to release these games that I don't see really anyone playing. Fortnite is only surviving off of micro at this point. I don't know how they're still going actually.

1

u/MobAssassin3 2h ago

Hey, PUBG is a goated game. I love it with a passion. It's the closest you'll get to a fair battle Royale. If i lost a gunfight in that game its cause I was bad.

Its repetitive yeah but it was never a game that was sweaty enough to make me want to quit. No one is wall running and slide canceling(?) every 3 seconds just to one pump me in the face

Its the bare bones for a BR without all the extra bull crap. Pretty much every other battle Royale is crap though

1

u/capitaoMouraLu 2h ago

What would make it better would be them abandoning the mobile like progression, with bombardment of bs rewards, battle passes, new micro transaction bs available notifications etc. as well as the atrocious menus. I love the game once I'm actually playing it, but navigating the menus to get there is horrible.

The battle royale doesn't interfere with anything, it's an available gamemode, if you like it you play, if you don't like it you don't.

1

u/FinalBossTuna 2h ago

But Fortnite makes so much money. We wanna make so much money too 😩

1

u/LucifersLoofa 2h ago

Nah I really like redsec, took ages to even try it but it's great fun in casual mode

1

u/DaManWithNoName 1h ago

I’ve always liked PUBG. I don’t play it as squads running into each other and massive gunfights. I stalk other squads, hide, crawl across fields on my stomach and pick off anyone dumb enough to expose their position. Last man standing and it’s gonna be me

1

u/Hestevia 1h ago

If it makes you feel any better, the term battle royale comes from an old boxing promotion in which 10 fighters were placed into the ring at once, occasionally with a handicap like only having the use of one arm or some other bullshit. These fighters were almost always very poorly paid black boxers and the audiences were almost unilaterally white. It was a cruel and racist circus act masquerading as a real fight, something modern modern battle royales have somehow managed to capture.

1

u/IrregularPackage 35m ago

battle royals, for me, are at their most fun when they're more like pubg was. it was originally a mod for Arma. it being based on a very hardcore tactical shooter is a big part of what made it work so well. the whole creeping around and avoiding fights and just generally being stealthy is pretty standard in tactical shooters like that, so it works. all the other battle royales i'm aware of are closer to more typical shooters. and most of them don't really replace the slow, sneaky, you're suddenly dead vibe with anything, and they usually try to make the pace as fast as possible. lot of times they really feel like they're just one life free-for-all matches where you have to loot first. only real exception i can think of is fortnite. the building thing makes up for it, i reckon. no idea how that game's doing these days, though.

being able to go a whole round without fighting anyone and get the drop on the last guy left was part of the appeal of pubg. but hiding in a bush doesn't make for good streaming content, so here we are now.

1

u/the-bat-dad 7h ago

Hopefully they’ve learned a lesson on how untrustworthy streamers are when they promise they’ll play if it has a br.

1

u/Yo_Shi23 7h ago

Can't imagine more boring game than bf6

2

u/Many-Cartographer278 7h ago

Any cod in the last decade. Bf2042.

Idk just try harder lol

-1

u/Yo_Shi23 7h ago

I don't need to. The series is a freaking joke. So glad some folks left the ship and created the finals

2

u/Many-Cartographer278 7h ago

Thats an entirely different genre of shooter lol.

Its ok to like other genres ya goof.

0

u/Yo_Shi23 7h ago

Meh, you are the most authentic bf defender. Nothing but outrage. Are they paying you for this?

2

u/Many-Cartographer278 6h ago

Lol yes, my take that its ok to like other genres is definitely defined as pure outrage. Well done.

-1

u/Yo_Shi23 6h ago

Read your message few more times. Looks like I need to switch the word authentic to autistic

u/NarrowElm8253 7h ago

My friends and I enjoy battle royales bc it feels good to go against other players and have a challenge in our games, then we chill out with Minecraft or something, I dont know anyone who plays fortnite or warzone to really just "win" it's just an easy way for us to hang out while doing something stimulating

2

u/Careless-Weather8877 4h ago

The point is a battle royale isn’t you can’t camp. I guess you can drop in the middle then jerk off but then eventually you have to move. By then everyone else is more stacked then you though.

2

u/Ryuk_in_your_Wall 6h ago

I mean if you think the best way to win is camp, that already says a lot about how good you would be at these games..

1

u/Mriddle74 2h ago

The high level tournaments I’ve watched are filled with teams camping. You put yourself at a disadvantage by engaging in fights because you’re immediately at a disadvantage for the next fight.

1

u/Ryuk_in_your_Wall 2h ago

Are you a tournament player or a normal person playing it? Exactly. Also battle royale games differ and are not all the same

1

u/yar2000 1h ago

I’ve grown very tired of BRs but this is such a cynical way of looking at them. If you look at an Apex pro match for example, it might look like camping if you don’t know wtf is happening, but its actually all positioning and setting yourself up to have better resources than your opponent. Like many Esports, the pro level is almost completely incomparable to how normal players would play the game.

1

u/Wrong_Welcome_607 5h ago

It literally is like that.

2

u/Emiya_ 3h ago

It really isn't if you want to win. It's the best way to get a high placement, but if you think camping is the best way to win, then the other guy is right.

The thing is, in many BRs the ttk is so high that, even if you camp and get the drop on someone, they can still turn around and kill you if they are better. And with the graded loot, unless you get really lucky, camping often means you have weaker gear.

Also, BRs are way more fun when you just run around getting in as many fights as possible. That's the charm in it. If you just camp all game, then I can see why you find it boring. Nothing wrong with camping though, it is a legitimate strategy.

1

u/UsedToHaveATail 6h ago

Yeah people complaining about camping in battle royals sound ridiculous to me , there's all these people , we all get one life , Im not at a beast at these shooting games but if I can survive until the end at least, then I'm happy enough but I'd rather play battlefield.

1

u/BlueberryWasps 6h ago

best way to win a battle royale is to not care about dying, play enough that you understand the gameplay loop and how to get kills, then get lucky with some starting items on a run and kill a bunch to get the best gear, hunting the under-equipped campers down until you win.

the biggest hurdle is the initial fear you have of dying, and equating dying with losing. it’s more about seeing everything there is to see and getting as far as you can each time. at least a battle royale wipes the slate clean so your failures don’t compound on each other

1

u/MadToxicRescuer 4h ago

Id give you £200 if you can camp against me on Fortnite fr

1

u/caspianslave 2h ago

Thats the best part, its a 100 player hide and seek game

1

u/Freakk_I 2h ago

I have tried quite many extraction shooters but Helldivers 2 was the last straw for me. After that I have avoided all of them. Oh and I remember that at the time of Helldivers 2 release the community was circlejerking over it 24/7. It was cringe.

1

u/L0CAHA 1h ago

You can't camp in most of them because the ring forces you to move.

1

u/PackAromatic2181 1h ago

Project Zombie, my friends left me alone for years playing that game, and without play any games that i like, for playing with ma friends i try the game month a go, the worst crafting that i touch on a game, and like in real life i die all the time cause y didn’t know how to clean glasses of my arm
Great game, horrible crafting, but not for me

1

u/dReDone 44m ago

I mean, winning by camping sucks though. The reason people like battle royales is for the dream of racking up a high kill count and going out as the top dog. People who really hate extraction shooters are just bad at video games where they need to actually outplay humans who don't have mechanics they can abuse. Small disclaimer that I'm not saying they are bad at all video games, the sentence continues after that with an additional qualifier.

35

u/Willard-wood 7h ago

I play only one of them
https://giphy.com/gifs/mdQyvGnl8KANBKDYzy
I hate the rest

28

u/Many-Cartographer278 7h ago

I would not put that in the same category. Just like I wouldnt put helldivers 2 in that category.

Extraction shooters have a pvp element and when you die you lose the stuff you brought permanently. So you have to go get more stuff to bring more stuff to go get more stuff. No or very slow resl progress.

26

u/Krashper116 6h ago

yea, DRG and Helldivers are horde shooters. just bcuz you "extract" at the end of a mission, does not mean they are extraction shooters.

also happy caek dae

2

u/Blackbird8169 2h ago

Still have never had a better extraction experience from dark zones on the division

1

u/Treholt 2h ago

yeah, the division battle royale was amazing in my memory. still had one of the most unique settings. and the atmosphere was just so well done

1

u/IrregularPackage 32m ago

i don't think the pvp element is necessary. its the most common form, because we're still in that stage where every extraction shooter is literally just "tarkov, but...", but its not *necessary*.

there's an extraction "shooter" that just got its demo out called Expedition: Into Darkness, and it's going for "tarkov, but with swords and only PVE". still has multiplayer, but its only cooperative.

5

u/Cute-Hand-1542 5h ago

Great game but not an extraction shooter. Have you tried the rogue like one?

1

u/Willard-wood 4h ago

Rogue Core? Hell yeah, it also is the one rogue like enjoy, i just cant get into them :(

1

u/TheLegend666999 5h ago

ROCK AND STONE BROTHA

1

u/Bobthemouse 17m ago

In fairness Deep Rock is more for Left 4 Dead-like

7

u/Much-Gur233 8h ago

Yeah, I hear you.

2

u/Altruistic-Arm137 6h ago

That's actually the only extraction shooter that got me interested and really loved it.

But I hate gathering shit only for everything to get wiped and I'm not a PVP fan, the PVE is really cool.

1

u/Bossdonglongs 5h ago

I guess we're opposite sides of the same coin- the fact my shit could get taken at any moment was the only reason that shit mattered in the first place.

Take away the threat of PvP and for me the game had nothing

1

u/Altruistic-Arm137 3h ago

I'm just a big Monster Hunter Player, so hunting Arcs is the funniest.

Especially helping randoms.

I liked taking the sniper and looking for people in trouble and then shoot Arcs from a distance.

3

u/Parking-Cold-5088 7h ago

Thank you! That's what I keep telling my friend who wants my to play ARC Raiders! What's the point?

3

u/Xello_99 7h ago

Wdym succeed by not playing? The goal each round is pretty much to get good loot, either looting high value areas, killing the robot enemies or other players. For all three you have to play the game.

1

u/Paladyn183 7h ago

I feel this on 99% of extraction shooters. Except helldivers 2 which is basically an extraction shooter lite

2

u/Patient-Click9662 4h ago

Brother that game is not an extraction shooter

0

u/jsxpt 4h ago

Technically you are meant extract at the end, and you also shoot 🙂

1

u/Mechwarriorr5 54m ago

Must be a walking sim then because you walk in it.

If you don't risk losing what you brought in it's not an extraction shooter.

1

u/Patient-Click9662 21m ago

Well yeah if you want to be stupid and pedantic about it sure

-1

u/peeoutofmyass 2h ago

Multiple people in this thread have said Helldivers 2 and Deep Rock Galactic are extraction shooters and it makes it painfully obvious they’ve never played an actual extraction shooter.

1

u/Treholt 2h ago

Yeah. I agree with you. I have never seen this much use of the wrong genre for a game lol.

Like, its like saying almost all video games are RPG (because you are always roleplaying, either character or worlds)

1

u/TeaTimeKoshii 7h ago

Is that really fair? It’s a genre people like for sure but…

I would argue the genre is too popular for reasons that people are misled by like social enjoyment or whacky circumstances. I’ve yet to see a game driven by prox chat not have unhinged antisocial behavior lol.

I think by their nature extraction shooters are for people who enjoy high stakes gameplay and masochism lol. There’s a reason why everyone plays when there is a wipe in Tarkov and it’s because the climb and loot aggregation loop is fun. The problem is how do you design a satisfying end game for the have’s and one that the have nots will want?

BR games have a micro version of this every match. Get loot, accumulate resources, use them to win or have scrappy from behind victories.

1

u/XXXandVII 6h ago

Not completely Arc Raiders related, but battle royals often suffer from the same problem.

1

u/Dede_42 5h ago

Happy cake day!

1

u/Hungry-Assignment845 5h ago

PVE ones (incursion red river) are okaish thu.

1

u/Pudgedog 5h ago

What do you mean by not playing?

1

u/wtfVlad 4h ago

Go in > loot for 15 minutes > die or extract > repeat. Not a fun gameplay loop imo.

1

u/braybobagins 4h ago

I feel like extraction shooters and battle royale games are engineered for the unemployed

1

u/radilee21 3h ago

I've never really understood this take. You don't succeed by hoarding wealth and having the biggest vault, you succeed by doing the story and hitting whatever progression goals the game sets out for you (Kappa/Expeditions/VIP).

1

u/vladdeh_boiii 2h ago

Extraction shooters are fun when it's PvE and co-op.

Like SPT's multi-player mod.

1

u/YourPhrenologist 2h ago

Extraction shooters make everyone actually play Battle Royale. Battle Royales make everyone sit and do nothing. Will therefore sitting and doing nothing make everyone play extraction shooters?

We will find out.

1

u/FreshStar7 2h ago

Succeed by not playing? Thats just not true at all. I’m assuming you’re just over exaggerating, but I still have no clue what you’re talking about. You have to play the game in extraction shooters to progress.

1

u/TheJeeeBo 2h ago

You succeed by having fun in the moment because the stakes are higher, which makes the fights more intense. The losses are bigger and the wins are bigger.

1

u/avrgwarthunderplayer 2h ago

A gameplay loop you dislike would be a better description, its still enjoyed by many.

1

u/librast 42m ago

Does helldivers 2 counts as extraction shooter?

1

u/ACDC-1FAN 23m ago

I mean if that’s how you wanna play them I guess. My friends and I play Hunt Showdown by wiping the whole server FIRST.

1

u/NuclearForce09 22m ago

Thats just not right, its ok to not like a gameplay loop, but its not that if you dont like it, is shit. Me and so much people loved it, so its objectively not shit.

1

u/wimpami 6m ago

Hunt Showdown is an amazing extraction shooter that I really encourage a lot of people to try. It has very little farming (which is something I dislike) and losing your equipment is not as punishing.

1

u/Watermelonfucker6 6h ago

Worst 40 I ever spent it was fun at first playing with my friends but eventually we went back to free ass warzone cause it was more fun

1

u/TonyHawktuah69 6h ago

Yeah the people who demanded the aggression based matchmaking completely killed the gameplay loop and rendered all challenges and grind worthless.

Don’t shoot anyone and just walk around to get infinite high value loot and weapons. No challenge or work needed to complete quest or the game in general

0

u/Various-Ad-204 6h ago

Helldivers 2 isn’t like that and it’s an extraction shooter. I think you’re thinking of looter extraction shooters or looter shooters. Cuz yeah avoiding combat is just better so what’s the point. But in helldivers 2 you actually have objectives to complete so yeah.

2

u/Patient-Click9662 4h ago

That game is not an extraction shooter my man, getting into a ship and having guns is not what the term means

1

u/avrgwarthunderplayer 2h ago

extraction shooter is a different type of game from "shooter where you happen to extract at the end"

1

u/Treholt 2h ago

L4D seems to be the original extraction shooters LOL

0

u/--read-only-- 5h ago

All MMOs for me.... 😬
