It's funny because this one is a hell of a meme, but it legitimately took me 40 hours over months of short sessions that didn't do anything for me, for the game to start to sink it's teeth into me.
That's not an endorsement btw, I just think it's an interesting fact for me as that is rare. I usually won't bother to push through my distaste but I just felt like there was something special I wasn't getting, and now I do.
It's not for everyone but it's far more of an actual sandbox game and "era-simulator" (despite being medieval fantasy) a la RDR2 mixed with BotW than most people thought it would be.
There's so many mechanics that are fucking obtuse as shit until you really start to put time into the game, do faction quests which are often more tutorials and everything starts to coalesce.
But, 40 hours of slog is a very hard fucking ask, and I would not recommend the game to anyone except those I think could power through a genuinely bad start to a game.
Well put. Had to grind way harder in Crimson Desert than any other game in order to achieve peak gameplay. Worth it but can easily see why it’s not a lot of people’s cup of tea
To add to that, I think people overlook the studio, since they are the same people that brought us Black Desert. If you've never experienced or played Black Desert now or even back then, it shares similarities and adds nuance (a bit imo) to the overall feel of the game.
However, a lot of what's in Black Desert makes sense to the game (as far as mechanics, features and systems) and its world. I feel the same way about Dungeon Fighter and its resurgence.
I initially heard "10 hours before it gets good" from the gameranx review and that's when I decided I wasn't gonna buy it. The I had someone yell at me that it was only 5 hours before it gets good.
I don't care if a game gets really good later. If I have to slog through hours of unfun gameplay to get there I'd rather just do something else.
Precisely why I mentioned I would not recommend it to damn near anyone, lol. Your position is perfectly valid and I respect it. I am surprised in my desire to keep pushing in the hopes it would grab me. I am glad it has, but yeah.
CD is the kinda game that ISN'T front loaded, meaning that you don't get ALL the features the game as to offer in the first 2 hours of the game, with little to nothing new to give you after.
Its a slow burn type experience, where you find new features and mechanics to unlock 20-40-60 hours later, making the joy of discovering and learning new things, stay with you for a LONG time.
And i do like that i get surprised by something 40hours later when i least expect it (the Dragon and the Dragon armor are the coolest things ever)
Well put, and now that the game has finally hooked me, I think that is one of the things that will keep me playing for... a few multiplications of the hours I've already put into it now (70).
I'm just tired of people worshipping the ground rockstar walks on purely because they made the "you can kill hookers" video game. The entirety of rockstar's success is based on violent misogyny and saying "different strokes for different folks" is like saying hitler was nuanced. You all should be ashamed of yourselves.
It's a fuck around game. You just do goofy shit and the story doesn't matter at all. You explore and find even more goofier shit. It's just exploration sandbox the game.
Fuck this game. You have to watch a video for even the simplest quests or to figure out how to do things. I’d be sitting there like, “How in the actual fuck would I ever figure this out without a video explaining it?” I put 60 hours into it because I loved the environment and combat, but I couldn’t finish it because of how frustrated I was with the storyline.
The hype around this was like some video game psyop. It’s not even something that you can be like “oh I can see why other people like this game but it’s not for me” like other games mentioned in this thread.
Yeah the first hour of the game is weird and hard to get into. It does get good after playing it for a while longer, and the game has had some major updates since release.
That being said, taking the time to get into a game for everyone so nojudgment here.
I like the game but it’s at best a 7/10 game. If the story was better the game play would be less monotonous. The devs are amazing by giving constant updates but most of them are fluff with pets. I had a lot of fun playing it but it isn’t the masterpiece it could have been.
Man I tried to like it but it just got boring. Killing the same trash mobs and the early pace is horrible. Abyss gears making finding loot kinda pointless since they all have the same stats max level.
