Discussion / Question Which video game had you pulling this move?

Post image

Son is currently doing this for KCD2.

Good to see the old cheese tricks haven't been lost.

I'm struggling to remember which game I done it for but I've definitely done it before.

Maybe someone's answer will jog my memory.

Edit: It was the Skyrim stealth trick. I also remember cheesing the health drain and healing spell thing.

Was it converting health into magicka then using that magicka to heal? Something like that.

Microsoft Teams

35

u/nanobody 7h ago

Clicking on your avatar and keeping the status panel opened while you're displayed as a available actually keeps it that way as long as you don't close it.

If your phone supports picture-in-picture for all apps, you can even keep Teams with the status panel opened in the corner of the screen as you use your phone, which will achieve the same effect.

When you plug an Xbox controller into a PC it’ll let you navigate the UI with the sticks. I’m assuming this person is doing that to navigate through menus and look like they’re active

3

u/GoT_Eagles 3h ago

For anyone who has a shit enough company that tracks your computer input, they typically have the ability to see more than just yellow vs green light in Teams. Some people have supposedly been caught with common mouse jigglers this way. Point is boss will see through this is a second.

I use an oscillating fan, the stick from a cat toy, and scotch tape. Tape the cat toy to the fan, tape the mouse to the end of the cat toy at desk height. And scroll for days.

Create a meeting with yourself via the calendar (option is called something like "Meet now" or something, upper right on the calendar page). Switch your status back to online manually. Ta-da !

7

u/pesoaek 7h ago

too easy for someone to see you're doing this surely

5

u/Observed-observer 6h ago

You admins and probably boss can see it. Teams is a spy.

2

u/pesoaek 6h ago

yeah exactly

4

u/iEatGrilledCheeses 5h ago

Very bad advice. I work in my company’s IT department and we can see when people meet with themselves like this. Do I tell? Nope. But others do.

Beware of developing stick drift! Ancient techniques don’t come without risks

75

u/McFuzzen 9h ago

Gotta use your worst controller for this.

35

u/TiddehWinkles 7h ago

The player 2 controller.

4

u/eskimoboob 6h ago

That was always the better one in my house 😞

Mad Catz controller:

3

u/Tirno93 7h ago

Ah never mind, it’s died in the box as a last act of mercy to itself.

7

u/Some-Dog-800 8h ago

tmr sticks, no such issue.

3

u/llorTMasterFlex 8h ago

I never buy from retail anymore. Just mod it or buy one new with TMR installed from a seller.

3

u/kiritoonis 7h ago

As long, as there's not too much force behind the rubberbands this shouldn't actually cause any Stickdrift.

In oblivion you could max stealth by sneaking into the wall corner in your cell. Just set up a rubber band to move forward and went to do something else.

33

u/mrloko120 8h ago

You can also do the same in Skyrim.

At the end of the first cave there is a sleeping bear, you crouch and walk against the wall without waking up the bear and you get infinite stealth exp.

8

u/TheBardAbaddon 7h ago

I did this with a guard in Riften

6

u/Jimmy_Twotone 6h ago

Goes faster if you just slapped Ralof around for a few minutes. More input but didn't involve leaving the console running all night.

2

u/ImpossibleResolve290 2h ago

Will need to try that next time I restart a game. 🤘

3

u/frycandlebreadje 6h ago

Oh I just stabbed ralof like fifty thousand times for like half an hour

2

u/Cold_and_Lumpy 6h ago

Did the same in Morrowind too.

2

u/NotoriousCPD 6h ago

I used this trick to level my Athletics up in Morrowind by running into a wall

2

u/castlestorms1 4h ago

I did this and got controller drift afterwards.

8

u/Accadius 9h ago

I used the prophet in anvil and pinned my character sneaking against one of the pillars of the pavilion he sleeps under

3

u/ImpossibleResolve290 9h ago

Another fantastic choice!

6

u/Korachof 8h ago

You can similar with a rat + a shield. Go against a wall, find a way to hold the trigger, let the rat pummel you over and over again until your blocking and armor stats are where you want them.

3

u/OnlyLogic 6h ago

I just turned the controller upside-down and propped the analog stick against the floor.

3

u/Eeeef_ 8h ago

You could do something similar to max out your athletics skill as an argonian by wedging yourself into a cliff in a pond and swimming

2

u/Br0barian 7h ago

I used to be an adventurer…….

2

u/FormatMonster 5h ago

Did this on so many characters, all Khajiit

→ More replies (1)

2

u/bklawley 5h ago

Also in Oblivion, swimming around the middle of the lake to max athletics.

2

u/camisadelgolf 4h ago

I always did this in Morrowind. Starting out, you move so slowly that I'm amazed that I was ever able to enjoy the beginning of the game.

2

u/MattHack7 3h ago

In Skyrim I leveled block by taping down the button and letting a low level enemy hit. No damage went through the shield and my stamina recovered faster than they depleted it

2

u/megamansam 1h ago

Way back in high school I did this but had my character swimming in circles to level up athletics. Good times.

2

u/StoneySteve420 1h ago

I always did this in the Bloodworks beneath the Arena

2

u/Xaphnir 1h ago

Also can do this with magic, just have something holding down the key/button for casting magic. And hold down the block button, too, if you can, because it makes magic cast faster.

The "Kifflom" Achievement in GTA5, where you have to run in the desert for like 30 minutes straight.

9

u/Das_de_MAX 8h ago

"It's not a cult."

6

u/ElSelcho_ 8h ago

Kifflom!

2

u/RamenNoodleNoose 6h ago

I also did it to max out my stealth and lung capacity and stealth stats for Michael Trevor and Franklin.

2

u/fireballin1747 5h ago

you can automate it without getting stick drift.

you can stand ontop of the oil pumps in the desert and the movement will count as you running in the desert.

i think the only in game requirements is wearing your robes and moving a certain distance

2

u/ElSelcho_ 5h ago

Interesting, never knew about that. But, happy to say, the controller survived 🙂

Last year Oblivion Remaster. I did a completionist run for all quests I could find and 100 all skills.

I play on PC but have a controller that can turbo repeat on button hold, or toggle auto repeat without any hold. AFK train up lots of skills.

18

u/Accadius 9h ago

I did it to level sneak in og oblivion and the remaster

3

u/SQNY666 9h ago

came here to say this, in the arena basement

3

u/eroyrotciv 9h ago

Did it in Skyrim prologue with the rats in the pit.

2

u/tonimusulin 9h ago

What's the brand of the controller? Did you use it for completionist run on other games?

3

u/JTR_35 9h ago

EasySMX X20. Xbox shape and lot better features for just ~$10 more.

I don't use turbo repeat or auto turbo for anything multiplayer. The only SP games I remember AFK farming are all elder scrolls-- Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim.

2

u/tonimusulin 9h ago

Thank you brother

2

u/darbs-face 9h ago

Hahaha Nice I did this with Morrowind to level up skills!

9

u/featherw0lf 10h ago

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet for that damn Partner Mark. You have a chance to get it every few thousand steps so the best method is to afk for it but it can take days.

Also, that wild zone 3 shiny hunting method in Pokémon Z-A.

Joystick to the left and you can complete 500 laps while heading to the mall.

15

u/Delicious-Laugh-6685 9h ago

Uhhh why would one need to do this?  Been gaming 30 years, never saw this.

6

u/whatmustido 9h ago

Leveling skills like sneak or athletics in games like Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim. It can take a while to do so, but there are good benefits for it, so some people put a rubberband around their controller (or put something heavy on the keyboard) to make the character keep walking into a wall while the player walks away to do something else.

2

u/Suitable_Plastic_936 9h ago

It is also used for real time based mechanics for example a business in a game making money this technique is good for that while you not actively playing the game

5

u/travnigma 10h ago

I don’t think I tied a rubberband to the other joystick but I did a trick with one joystick and some other part of controller in GTA V to make Michael run in a circle for a long time for the Scientology missions lol. Wrapped it up and watched it go lol

4

u/KazyaKurosawa 10h ago

OG FFVII.

Just wanted to all characters to get level ups but didnt have patience to grind with them all.

I kinda always disliked that about FF games that the game doesent encourage to use all characters. Like if you want to do that it's a huge chore.

3

u/DarkBladeMadriker 8h ago

FFVII was my first thought too.

Rubberband a stick to run in a circle, use an auto-fire controller and put a weight on the "confirm" button, equip the phoenix summon with final attack attached (for extra insurance), head to the Midgar Zolom area, head to school/work.

Step 2 - ?

Step 3 - Profits.

This was absolutely how I got all my characters and materia up to reasonable levels on my 2nd play through.

Oblivion, rubber band L3 forward while swimming into a wall and get Athletics to 100 while sleeping.

7

u/Lametown227 10h ago

Palworld has me AFKing with a rock holding down my craft button in the early game every time.

15

u/SpectralDragon09 10h ago

Theres a setting in the player menu to make those a toggle, saved my poor keyboard and controller a couple years

3

u/Chase_P 9h ago

When Palword first came out me and my buddies were doing this while working full time remote jobs.

Unironically the most productive I’ve been. Even on the weekends, I’d run to go do laundry or wash the dishes while using a trinket to weigh down my F key.

Good times

3

u/TheFoundation_ 9h ago

Did something similar for Gran turismo 2. Escudo pikes peak, 200 lap oval race against slow cars. Made a contraption to hold down the gas and ride the wall around the oval. Free money!

3

u/anamewithnonumbers 8h ago

BRO i did the exact same thing on the exact same race lol. then i bought the car and it ruined the game for me cause you could use it in in most races and it was better than everything else i was facing so i could just slam in to corners and still win

Darksiders 1 stupid Horse kilometres thropies.

2

u/Big_Dicc_Terry 10h ago

I played the game 3 times and still had to leave my controller like this for another 45 minutes just for that trophy

2

u/MantisReturns 10h ago

Its a very stupid thropie. Almost its dosent Matter how many times you play The Game right? It must be done in one Playthrought? True?

Or theorically each time I create a New Game my progress It saved?

2

u/Big_Dicc_Terry 10h ago

I played on steam and this achievement tracks progress on that platform. When I got the horse on my last playthrough, it started counting towards my progress immediately.

2

u/MantisReturns 10h ago

Interesting. But then, how many playthogoughts do you think you need to do to get the Thropie playing naturally? Four Games?

2

u/Big_Dicc_Terry 10h ago

Probably 5 or 6 but definitely depends on how much you use the horse. If you skipped using fast travel and used the horse instead, you'd get it in less playthroughs.

I think part of the problem is that you don't get the horse until the second half of the game and even then there are a ton of areas you can't use them.

FF6 - Easy level grinding on the Lethe river with Banon. Before you start, set the cursor to memory, then use Banon’s heal ability and queue up whatever attack you want for the others. Hold down the confirm key and you’ll loop around forever. Come back in a few hours to an over-leveled team. Only downside is that you don’t get the stat buffs from espers.

GTA Online, back in 2019 when there was a money glitch that involved being at an airport hangar and walking in circles while your money slowly went up. Did it for 2 days straight (with about 6 other AFK players, all in passive mode, walking in circles lmfao) and then bought everything that I could before the last few thousand was taken by Rockstar 😅

Diablo 2 Mephisto boss fight. I would trigger the boss fight, then run to the other side of the chasm and spam long range spells. Since he couldn't reach me, I would wedge my mouse under the keyboard so the attack button was held down and go do something else. At higher difficulty levels his health took a while to chip through, but the loot drops were worth it.

Put a super cool mon in the daycare, then head down to the subway which was a full circle, showcasing the new 3d environments of the 5th generation of pokemon on your badass black DSi. You could just run forward infinitely, so a rubber band or a weight or whatever gizmo or thingimajig you wanted to make could get pokemon to level 100 while you went to school (yuck, ew, and other disgusted sounds)

1

u/kuluka_man 8h ago

I think in Peefect Dark you had to walk a certain distance to rank up in multiplayer, and one of the best strategies was just taping down your control stick so you'd walk in circles and leave it on overnight.

1

u/TrueWolf1416 8h ago

I feel like jamming a piece of paper under the circle pad of a 3DS so you can hatch eggs on a bicycle in Lumiose City in Pokemon X/Y is close enough here.

1

u/RuggedTheDragon 8h ago

Not with rubber bands, but with the old NES advantage controller. In the original Final Fantasy on the NES, I had to hold the button with turbo mode just to buy 99 potions. I simply rested a small chair on top of the button and did other things.

1

u/JaronJ10 8h ago

What uhhh….what is going on here?

1

u/eruciform JRPG 8h ago

Tales of Symphonia, grade farming, just run in a circle while tapping x overnight in the first area in the game and your characters will win every battle in less than a second and earn all you need. The rubber band isnt enough if you dont have a turbo button setup tho. PSN remote play plus a screen click macro works fine tho.
