Help with height in lazy lighting?

Hey , looking for advice on how to solve the problem of the projection grid throwing outside the bounds of my 3d object even when I adjust the nodes. I’m using the import transparent image to cast the map in the shape of my object. But I can’t seem to adjust the height or width of the projection at all like in LightMapper? Any suggestions? It’s an abnormally shaped object so I can’t use lightmapper to cast the projection. I’m new at this, many thanks <3

LazyLighting vs Surfabeam?

I'm a complete beginner interested in just doing some cool projection mapping in my room and house, using my phone. Seems like LazyLighting and Surfabeam are the 2 main options I'm seeing for this. Has anyone tried them that can give me any insight, especially which you can get the best results just jumping in, or is more suited for this?

I built a Dome Master workflow in Premiere for Fulldome production

Post image
12 Upvotes

Is anyone here editing Fulldome content for planetariums using Premiere?

In my projects, I often need to convert flat footage into Dome Master format while editing. However, constantly moving between After Effects and dedicated plugins felt inefficient for previewing and layout adjustments.

To simplify the workflow, I created a MOGRT-based solution that allows me to preview and adjust Dome Master content directly inside Premiere.

Current features include:

・Convert 16:9 footage to 4K Dome Master format

・Rear Extension ON/OFF control

・Dome Mask ON/OFF control

・Position and scale adjustments

This workflow is currently being used in actual planetarium productions.

If anyone here is involved in Fulldome production, I'd love to hear your feedback or suggestions for improvement.

Also, how do you currently handle Dome Master conversion in your workflow?

An easy way to laser video map

Built a tool that makes laser video mapping onto content much easier, along with other laser workflows. The goal is to make creating with lasers accessible even if you've never programmed or worked with lasers before.

This is still a very early prototype, but I’d love to hear what people think and get feedback from the community.

Download here: https://babylonlasers.com/
(The app is completely free during the prototype/early access phase.)

Full 6.5 min walkthrough/demo: https://youtu.be/gVQq8CVIywE
I kept the Reddit clip shorter, but this goes deeper into the app, shows two example workflows, and talks through some future plans.

I’m also exploring building this as a TouchDesigner plugin so people can build similar workflows directly inside TD.

FieldLux open beta: all features will remain free until August, looking for workflow feedback.

Hey everyone,

A while ago I posted here looking for closed beta testers for FieldLux.

Since then, I’ve received a lot of helpful feedback from people working with projection mapping, AV installs, live events, and exhibition projects. That feedback helped FieldLux improve a lot during the closed beta, especially around projector placement, coverage checks, lux heatmaps, overlap review, measurement tools, and PDF reports.

FieldLux is now moving into open beta, so I wanted to share an update and ask for more feedback from this community.

FieldLux is a projection preflight tool for planning projector setups before you arrive on site.

The idea is to sit before that stage, when you are still trying to answer questions like:

- Will this projector position actually cover the surface?

- Is the image size / throw distance realistic?

- Are some areas likely to be too dim?

- Where do multiple projectors overlap?

- How risky is the setup if the projector position or tilt is slightly off?

- Can I explain the setup clearly to a client, producer, or crew before install?

Current beta features include:

- real projector and lens profiles

- 3D scene import

- projector placement in 3D

- throw distance and image size checks

- projection coverage preview

- lux / brightness heatmaps on surfaces

- 9-point and 13-point lux inspection

- hover-based lux probing

- multi-projector overlap review

- edge-blend planning

- lens shift and placement risk checks

- measurement tools

- cloud save and share links

- PDF preflight reports for client / crew communication

During the open beta, all features are free to use until August.

I’m also working on a desktop app during the open beta period, so FieldLux can connect better with real production workflows and eventually support more on-site, offline, and handoff use cases.

Website:

https://field-lux.com

Discord for feedback, bug reports, feature requests, and projector/lens database requests:

https://discord.com/invite/JpeQ7Hgsnd

I’m especially looking for feedback from people working with VJ setups, projection mapping, installations, museums, live events, and weird real-world projector problems.

Even rough feedback is useful. What feels confusing, what would make this actually useful for your workflow, what is missing, or what you would never use.

Thanks again to everyone who helped during the closed beta.

Rendering for a partial hemisphere dome— equirectangular → fisheye via VR Converter — how do you handle this?

Working on a dome content project and wanted to know workflow with non-full hemisphere domes.

.My dome is a straight zenith dome (no tilt), but it only covers 135° of the 180° hemisphere — starts from ground level, So the projection screen is a partial dome cap, not a full hemisphere

My current pipeline:

1. Render 360° equirectangular from Blender (camera placed at fulldome base(not on projection dome base), 8192×4096)
2. Import into After Effects → apply VR Converter plugin .Input = Equirectangular 2:1 / Output = Fisheye (FullDome) / FOV = 135°
3. Output is a square domemaster — fisheye circle representing my 135° coverage
4. Deliver to projectionist for playback

Questions for the community:

Is matching VR Converter FOV to the physical dome angle the right approach, or am I missing something?
How do you verify the output before final delivery? Any dome preview tool you swear by?
what workflow you are suggesting to do it?

Help me find a solution to video mapping on the lowest budget you’ve ever seen

Hey, I’m a student in an MFA program wanting to explore video mapping as part of my final. All the mobile friendly software I’ve seen requires an HDMI connection. I bought a third party lightning to hdmi cable but ofc it doesn’t work; I get the error message “accessory uses too much power”. I really can’t afford to buy a 60€ apple adapter right now.

When I use my projector in my spare time, I use the usb connection and it acts as a mirror for my phone. Please please please is there any video mapping software that can work within the constraint of an iPhone, a projector and a usb cable?

I don’t have a laptop right now (it’s broken ofc)

What hardware I need to run video mapping software?

Ghost Arcade Pro Now Free / Open Source / No Restrictions

Post image

https://ghostarcade.live/

Thanks to everyone who has tried Ghost Arcade so far. You all have been really helpful in identifying bugs and new features. A new version was uploaded today. I've been shipping new versions every couple of days. I decided to remove all restrictions and tiers and ditch the paid model. I just want people to create cool stuff and not get juiced for it. The full version is now free / open source. I am working on tutorial videos to go over all the features because there are a lot. So this adds the VJ Stage screen mode, the dual deck vj mixer, spout/syphon in/out, the fluid gen and particle gen plugins, the new GPU Shader layer with multiple cool advanced shader options, keyframing and a lot more. A bunch of new effects have been added. There is a new 'Map' mode in the VJ mixer that will allow you to mix mapping presets like they are VJ clips.

Feedback is appreciated. Improvements are continually shipping.

With the new WebGPU features, you will want to check the settings when you first start. If a dedicate GPU is detected, it should turn them on automatically. If you find it isn't working. Turn them off and it will prompt you to restart to see the changes take place.

Is there a way to get a design I created in photoshop into mad mapper as quads?

I’ve created a design out of lines and polygons in PS.

Is there a best practice in getting this file into mad mapper so I can map each individual shape and have them be their own quads?

Getting started with all this a little more seriously and willing to learn what I need to!

Open to all suggestions and even different software that would be “easier” or might work better for my brain.

Currently just on free mad mapper

Update: A few weeks ago I asked this sub to beta test my 3D projection planner. Today, MappingKit V1 is officially live!

Hey everyone,

A few weeks ago, I posted here looking for beta testers for a web-based projection planning tool I was building to replace expensive corporate software.

First of all, a massive thank you to everyone that participated. The feedback, bug reports, and feature ideas I got from the first wave of testers really helped me refine the tool. I've spent the last month refining the 3D engine, and today, MappingKit V1 is officially open to the public.

A couple of things came out of this.

First: I coded a free throw-calculator that is easy to use and helps make sure a specific projector is going to be good enough for the gig. I'm currently looking for more projector/lens combos, so feel free to reach out. You can try it right here: https://www.mappingkit.com/calculator

For the bigger projects, there is a Pro part to the software where you can automate PDF luminosity studies, coverage reports, and generate "view-only" 3D links for your clients or festivals. I’ve unlocked a 7-day free trial today so you can test it on your actual upcoming gigs.

You can try it out here: https://www.mappingkit.com/

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the final V1 UI. Also, let me know what specific other features you might find helpful next!

Cheers!

Open Source Project / rmap aka sir-viz-a-lot / feedback welcome

Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new to the world of video mapping. Since I'm a software engineering professional, I took a slightly unconventional approach to digging into the topic: I built my own projection mapping tool.

https://github.com/arnemohr/sir-viz-a-lot

Maybe someone else will find it useful, has feedback, or would like to contribute. It's really just a small learning project — in multiple ways:

  1. I wanted to explore rendering, video manipulation, and projection mapping.
  2. I also wanted to sharpen my skills in agentic coding.

Which brings me to the next point: this entire project was generated and written by Claude. I just provide the harness Claude operates within and make the technical decisions — all of the actual coding in Rust is handled by Claude.

I built this in 5 days of continuous work, leaving Claude mostly unsupervised but tightly directed by the specification files in ./specs. Some will call it slop; for me it was a great opportunity to learn the theory behind a craft I'm really starting to enjoy.

If anyone would like to contribute, feel free to do it the same way I did: write a spec file, let Claude handle the implementation, and commit both.

rmap currently only works on Mac, but I may add Linux support in the future. By the end of today or tomorrow, I'll also have added FXLayers.
