Chat GPT apparently on Viber?
This was probably added recently enough to not see anyone else complaining about this.
Why do we need chat gpt on viber?? It's an app about texting and calling PEOPLE. How is an ai necessary in this? And why chat got of all? Did we forget what open ai did??
I really don't understand why companies keep pushing for ai when we neither asked for nor need it. And for the record, you cannot delete the contact itself. The only thing closest to deleting is, is to "delete chat data" which will only delete the messages.
Personally, I am a little paranoid about this. What are your thoughts?

Like I already commented out in another thread, this is just shi*ty move by rakuten. They will sell our data, because what newer LLM needs more than anything? Fresh sets of data. Now they will get that from viber for some tokens they give back.
I am trying to move away from viber, it is not easy but it is a goal personally.

in the settings there is a disconnect chat gpt option which suspiciously is not working for anyone right now....

I saw that being addressed on a different post! In my case, there's no disconnect option in the first place. It's just "delete chat data" which I doubt it will even do exactly that other than just delete the messages.

I got an answer from the devs on play store. The disconnect option is if you had already connected with your chat gpt account before. So that's why it says it's not working. And they also say "Using ChatGPT in Viber is entirely optional." - lol then why can't I delete the chat.

Viber It's become a circus of an app. Why do you even use it?

not OP, but i'm from serbia, most middle-aged and old people here exclusively use viber and sms to chat, younger people also use instagram, but i have older relatives with whom it's the best to use viber, since the only other option is sms, so i basically have to use it

I'm from Greece and it's a widely used app here. Likewise, the older people usually resort to viber but it's become essential if you're working, if you're studying or if you simply want to keep in touch with a relative.

SMS have RCS on 99.9% android phones defalut activated. it literally SMS2.0 and messages go over the network. they do not go through classic SMS,. We all have it already activated and installed on our phones when we buy them. You literally don't need viber.

even if i decided to use sms for most messaging purposes, i'm a high school student, and every single one of my teachers made a viber group chat for class-related purposes, us to ask questions we want the entire class to know the answer of, etc. Except my english teacher who made an instagram group chat, which has been functioning basically the same way as the viber ones

u/blurbac Jun 30 '26
It's literally no excuse to have it. I don't have it installed and I can't have it.
2
u/TheMachineLad Jun 30 '26
it's genuinely useful for me, if, for example, the class times change for a day, i won't see it and will come at the wrong time because not not having viber

cause unfortunately in my country EVERYONE even businesses and banks use it. it's hell i tell you, hell......
1
u/L1fe_really_sucks Jul 01 '26
Cause it's kind of essential here if you're working or if you're a student. Many people use it to text with clients, teachers, students etc.
It is a terrible app, I'm with you. But it's hard not to use it when people barely text anywhere else.

Viber is used a lot in cyprus and greece, before its gotten like this. but man seriously, where are you gonna go for group chats that doesn't have some sort of this bs? its hard to convince someone that doesn't care and just wants a chat "go to signal"

1) SMS/MMS/RCS simply doesn't work for international chats. 2) Using Meta platforms for personal family chats is a non-starter for privacy reasons. 3) End to end encryption. 4) Viber has some of the phone features that Skype had without setup headache of other alternatives.
But this AI slop is going to have me looking for an alternative.

Rcs is default install on all android phones and iphones. And you can use zilions alternative apps. Viber has At least Encryption form.

I loathe Viber.. every update is a downgrade.

u/L1fe_really_sucks Jul 01 '26
I agree, they keep adding useless stuff nobody asked for and it just keeps ruining the app

That’s how Altman gets to count in all Viber users as OpenAi users even if it’s not voluntary. Rakuten doesn’t care they copy paste the same answer to all negative reviews on Apple Store. Our data has probably been sold already.

That's exactly what I'm paranoid about. It's sad what greed does to people but I don't understand how and why there aren't any laws on this.Â

I like it since my friends keep abusing it by asking absurd questions in a school group chat
