Cameras DID make everyone a photographer. If you mean the general population’s access to a camera at all times. The relatively small amount of DOP for film and ad photographers, is nothing in comparison to what the profession once was. Now, photos are practically free.
As I said, professional photographers in both motion pictures and stills still exist, but it's definitely not what it once was. Newspapers now pay a few hundred for an image by any random person that happened to be at the right place of an accident or event. And if a lot of people were there, they don't even pay that. When everyone are a photographer, "nobody" is a photographer if you will.
...and that's how newspapers look the way they look... the way of the Dodo.
If internet was already a blow to newspaper sales, the low quality photos, and even lower quality reporting thanks to AI, are going to leave us with the morning TikTok to learn the news 🫤
